With such a vast open-world Greece, there is a lot to explore and uncover. Whether you want the progression and quests acquiring process to be organic or a bit more simplified, is up to you since the game offers you that choice of two settings right from the beginning. Let us talk more about Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Exploration Mode vs. Guided Mode.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Exploration Mode vs. Guided Mode
The Guided Mode is your normal way of playing most open-world games. This means that quest markers are always present on your map and HUD to always “guide” you no matter where you are or what kind of objective you are tackling.
This is not anything particularly new and not so interesting to talk about. So if you are looking for the casual fun and do not want to over-invest in the world and treat it like a real one, go for this Guided Mode.
The world gets a tad more immersive and engaging with the Exploration Mode which ditches out the markers for a little more of an organic approach.
Now you have hints for the general direction or area of operation instead of the exact pinpoint location of your objective.
These clues appear in the top left corner of the screen, provided you have managed to “explore” every dialogue opportunity with the NPC responsible for giving you the quest.
These clues work purely to provide geographical hints like saying to look in the southern region of Kephallonia or to pay a visit to an NPC named XYZ for the next part of an objective.
These clues are neither overly ambiguous nor confusing in the slightest sense.
You can still use your eagle, Ikaros, to recon areas to discover and mark the point of interest, so do not worry about the notion of whether you would find your goal or not.
Which One should You Choose?
Therefore, at the end of the day, it comes down to this choice. Although you can freely switch between the two settings whenever you feel like, you will eventually have to stick to one for the larger part of the game.
It is down to your personal preference really. For a more relaxed, simplified, familiar, and traditional way of approaching things, go for the Guided Mode. You can rush things with such a setting, complete the campaign, and move on.
The other method, as encouraged by the developers themselves, can be employed for those who would want to invest some decent amount of time playing the game.
Exploration Mode makes the world feel more natural and rewarding, even though it might differ only a little from the normal mode.
So for the DIY players and those looking to scrounge every inch of ancient Greece and Spartan Kick every enemy soldier, go for the Exploration Mode. This is basically all you need to know about Guided Mode vs. Exploration Mode in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Be sure to let us know if we missed anything!
