Elden Ring Morne Tunnel Walkthrough: Smithing Stone Farm

The Morne Tunnel is the Weeping Peninsula's mine, dug into the middle of the peninsula near the Erdtree Avatar that guards its Minor Erdtree. It is an early dungeon, in a region our hub rates for levels 15 to 30, and it serves two purposes: it is the best place in the south to fill your pockets with Smithing Stone 1, and its boss, the Scaly Misbegotten, drops the Rusted Anchor, a greataxe that Strength characters can carry to the end of the game.

Where the Morne Tunnel is

Cross the Bridge of Sacrifice from Limgrave, rest at its Site of Grace, and ride southwest through the forest; the entrance is at the far side of it. The Demi-Human Forest Ruins lie just north of the tunnel, and the Faith-Knot Crystal Tear page uses the tunnel as its landmark: from the ruins, keep north to the cliff edge and a small altar bowl ringed by three Miranda Flowers holds the tear. The tunnel's grace is worth lighting even if you leave at once, because the Lightning Strike page uses it as the fast-travel point for the canyon between the Minor Erdtree and the Ailing Village, where a Teardrop Scarab carries the incantation; ride southwest from the grace, then take Torrent down the stepped rock ledges to the canyon floor.

Morne Tunnel walkthrough and stone farming

The tunnel is a straight run to the boss room, with Glintstone Miners along the way, and the miners are the point. Our Smithing Stones guide counts up to nine Smithing Stone 1 inside, which is enough to take two early weapons to +3, and the Somber Smithing Stones guide adds a couple of Somber Smithing Stone 1 on the floor plus Somber Smithing Stone 2 from the miners themselves, who can be farmed for more. That combination is why the how to get overpowered early guide names the Limgrave Tunnels and the Morne Tunnel as the two places to stock stones for every weapon tier you own before leaving the south. Castle Morne, further down the peninsula, holds at least two more Somber Smithing Stone 2 if the miners are slow to drop them.

Scaly Misbegotten and the Rusted Anchor

Follow the tunnel to the boss room. The Scaly Misbegotten moves like the other Misbegotten, fast and agile, and the weapon page says a low-level character can take it. It drops the Rusted Anchor once per playthrough. The anchor is a greataxe that deals pierce damage rather than the usual slash, needs 26 Strength and 9 Dexterity, weighs 12.5, and scales C in Strength with E in Dexterity. Unlike most boss drops it is a standard weapon: it comes with Barbaric Roar, accepts any Ash of War, takes grease and magic buffs, and upgrades with regular Smithing Stones to +25 and 360 physical damage. Our best Strength weapons roundup rates it A-tier at 147 base physical attack, suggests the Spear Talisman for its pierce hits, and the weapon page recommends Wild Strikes, Lion's Claw or Cragblade as replacement skills, with a build of 58 Vigor, 42 Endurance, 76 Strength and 18 Dexterity in the Rakshasa set.

Morne Tunnel FAQ

Is the Morne Tunnel the same as Castle Morne?

No. Castle Morne is the fortress at the peninsula's southern tip, with the Leonine Misbegotten and the Grafted Blade Greatsword. The tunnel is a mine in the middle of the peninsula with a smaller Misbegotten and a greataxe. The dungeons guide lists both under Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula.
