Five of our seven Grand Theft Auto III pages have something to say about the police. The hidden packages guide uses a police car as a key. The rampages guide tells you to pick up a wanted level on purpose. The Import/Export list wants vehicles that only appear at four and six stars. The vigilante missions pay you in police bribes. And the cheat list has a code for raising the wanted level and another for clearing it. So this hub is arranged by stars: what you can do with none, what a borrowed police car buys you, what a little heat is good for, and what only the full six will hand over. It is not a story walkthrough; our pages do not cover the missions beyond the ones that gate a collectible.
Zero Stars: The 163-Item Checklist
Most of the completion list asks nothing of the police. Our locations guide covers the whole of it and sorts it by the car each icon needs, so this hub only needs to say what is there. The 100 hidden packages are spread across the islands, Portland holding 33, Staunton Island 36 and Shoreside Vale the remaining 31, and only three of them wait on the story, all on Portland. The 20 rampages are two-minute quotas against a named gang or a count of vehicles, and each has a second position in case you miss the first. The 20 unique jumps pay a bonus that grows with the count, $5,000 times the jump's number, and finish with the Wheels Up trophy. The 16 civilian Import/Export cars pay $1,000 apiece and $200,000 for the finished list, and can be gathered from traffic and car parks with no heat at all.
A Borrowed Police Car: Vigilante Missions
The vigilante missions guide is the one page of ours where the police are on your side. Get into any law enforcement vehicle, press the prompt, and a criminal appears on the mini-map in a car of their own; each level adds more of them and better weapons. The page's methods are drive-by fire until the car explodes, an ambush with heavy weapons along a predicted route, a pit manoeuvre into a corner so the driver has to get out, or a shove into water, which the page says kills instantly. The rewards are the point for a completionist: a police bribe added to the hideouts of an island at 10 kills there and another at 20, on all three islands, so six bribes in total. That makes it the one activity here that hands the police's own tokens back to you, which is why it sits on this rung rather than at zero stars.
A Little Heat: What The Rampages Do With It
Six of the twenty rampages ask for a number of vehicles destroyed, from seven to fifteen, and the rampages guide gives the same answer for most of them: park a car in the road, detonate it to take the surrounding traffic with it, and raise your wanted level so that police cars keep arriving to be added to the count. The same page makes a stranger claim three times, for the Triads, the Yardies and the Cartel, that gaining a wanted level reduces the gang's hostility during its rampage; it is the page's advice and is reported here as such. Either way, the rampages are where a star or two is an asset rather than a problem, and the sniper rampage on Staunton Island has its own trick: fail it once after Kingdom Come so that it reappears at Kenji's Casino, then shoot from the balcony.
Four And Six Stars: The Cars You Cannot Buy
The emergency vehicles guide sits at the top of the stars ladder. Three of its seven vehicles are parked at hospitals, fire stations and police stations across the city, but the rest sit behind a wanted level or wait in Phil Cassidy's yard.
| Stars needed | Vehicle | Where the page finds it |
|---|---|---|
| None | Ambulance, Fire Truck, Police Car | Outside any hospital, fire station or police station |
| Four | Enforcer | Inside the Staunton Island police station |
| Six | FBI Car | Driven by the agents who arrive at six stars; steal one |
| Six, or none at Phil's | Barracks OL | Phil Cassidy's Army Surplus once Staunton Island is open, or from the army at six stars |
| Six, or none at Phil's | Rhino | Phil's Army Surplus during Arms Shortage, or from the army at six stars |
Deliveries are made to the Portland Docks crane, with the vehicle positioned on its yellow stripes for the magnet, not to a garage, and the page warns there is no list on screen for this set. The completion rewards as the page states them are $1,500 for finishing the set and $200,000 on the final vehicle, along with the Play Fetch and Pest Control trophies. If you would rather not fight the army for a tank, the same Rhino is a code away, which is the last rung.
Setting The Ladder By Hand: The Cheat List
Our GTA 3 cheats page lists 23 PC codes and 24 controller inputs written for the Switch, which the page says work on the other consoles too, and a keyboard plugged into a console will take the PC codes. Two of them move the wanted level directly, MOREPOLICEPLEASE up and NOPOLICEPLEASE down, which puts the four-star Enforcer and the six-star FBI Car within reach of a few keystrokes. GIVEUSATANK spawns the Rhino, IFIWEREARICHMAN adds money on PC and the Switch input pays $250,000, GUNSGUNSGUNS arms you, and Big Head Mode is the code the Definitive Edition added. The page's warnings are worth more than the codes: codes can switch off achievements and trophies, some stay active after the game says they are off, and an active code can corrupt a save, so it tells you to keep a separate file and never to save with a cheat running. One row an editor should check: the Switch inputs listed for Clear Weather and Foggy Weather are identical.
Questions Our Pages Answer
How many hidden packages are there, and where?
One hundred, split 33, 36 and 31 between Portland, Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale. Our guide counts them towards 100 percent completion and lists no other reward for them.
Is there a money cheat in GTA 3?
Yes. IFIWEREARICHMAN on PC, and a Switch input our page lists as worth $250,000.
How do you get a tank?
Three ways in our pages: at Phil Cassidy's Army Surplus during Arms Shortage, from the army at a six-star wanted level, or with the code GIVEUSATANK.
What do vigilante missions give you?
A police bribe at the hideouts of each island for reaching 10 kills there, and a second at 20, six in all.
