Quests
Elden Ring has no quest log. A character says something cryptic, moves somewhere without telling you, and if you kill the wrong boss before you find them again the whole thread is gone for the rest of the playthrough. The questlines are also where the game keeps its best rewards: the Dark Moon Greatsword, two of the six endings, the Mimic Tear's rival summons, Legendary talismans and the road to Mohgwyn Palace all sit at the end of a conversation chain.
This guide is built to be read alongside a playthrough. The table at the top lists every questline on our wiki with where it starts, so you can check what you might have already walked past. Below it, each quest gets a short entry in roughly the order you meet the character: the steps in a few lines, the point at which it locks or fails, and what you get. Each name links to the full walkthrough with maps and dialogue choices.

Several questlines belong to characters we file under NPCs rather than quests because the page is about the person: Millicent, Blaidd, Irina and Edgar, Kenneth Haight, Boc, Sorcerer Rogier and Seluvis. They are summarised in the NPCs guide.
Limgrave: the quests you meet first
White Mask Varre
The first person who speaks to you is recruiting for the Lord of Blood. After you meet Enia at the Roundtable Hold, find Varre again at the Rose Church in Liurnia, accept his Festering Bloody Finger, invade three times, and then soak a cloth in maiden blood at the Chapel of Anticipation or the Church of Inhibition. He anoints you, hands over the Pureblood Knight's Medal, and that medal is the fast route to Mohgwyn Palace. Nothing locks this quest except killing Varre, who can be fought at the palace once the story is done. The full walkthrough covers the dialogue options and the maiden-blood alternative for players who refuse to harm Irina.
Roderika
Roderika sits in the Stormhill Shack mourning her companions. Bring her the Chrysalids' Memento from the pile of grafted bodies in Stormveil, then talk to her and to Hewg at the Roundtable Hold until she takes up Spirit Tuning, which is the only way to upgrade Spirit Ashes. Finishing her conversations later returns the Crimson Hood, a helm that adds a point of Vigor. The order of her dialogue matters, so follow the step list.
Bloody Finger Hunter Yura
Yura camps under a ruin by Agheel Lake. Kill the dragon, help him against Bloody Finger Nerijus at Murkwater, meet him again at the Seaside Ruins, then follow him to Raya Lucaria and the Second Church of Marika where the Bloody Finger Eleonora ends his story and leaves you her Poleblade. His katana, the Nagakiba, and the Raptor of the Mists Ash of War also come from this chain; Shabriri wears his body afterwards in the Zamor Ruins. Killing Yura early gets the Nagakiba but forfeits everything else, as the guide warns.
Iron Fist Alexander
A warrior jar stuck in the ground north of the Stormhill Shack. Hit him free, meet him again at Gael Tunnel, fight beside him at the Radahn Festival, dig him out of the Seethewater Terminus with oil, find him at the Foot of the Forge and finally duel him in Crumbling Farum Azula for the Shard of Alexander, the talisman every skill-based build wants. The page lists all seven locations and the summons he offers along the way.
Gatekeeper Gostoc and Nepheli Loux
Two Stormveil stories share an ending. Gostoc opens the side gate, steals your runes when you die, and can be spared to become a merchant and to take his revenge on Godrick in the throne room. Nepheli helps against Godrick, then drifts through the Roundtable Hold and the Village of the Albinaurics; give her the Stormhawk King ashes from the Chapel of Anticipation instead of Seluvis's potion and she ends the game ruling Stormveil with Kenneth Haight, handing you an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. The potion choice is the one point of failure.
Patches
Spare Patches after his ambush in Murkwater Cave and he becomes a merchant who turns up at the Scenic Isle, Mt. Gelmir, Volcano Manor and the Shaded Castle, selling Margit's Shackle and, later, the invasion into Great Horned Tragoth's world for the Bull-Goat set. His questline runs through Volcano Manor's contracts, so keep him alive until Rykard is dead.
Liurnia and the Roundtable Hold
Sorceress Sellen
Sellen sells sorceries from the Waypoint Ruins cellar and asks you to find Primeval Sorcerer Azur at Mt. Gelmir, Master Lusat in Sellia Hideaway, and her own body at the Witchbane Ruins. The finale is a choice between her and Witch-Hunter Jerren in Rennala's library. Side with Sellen for the Shard Spiral and her glintstone crown; side with Jerren for the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone he gives. The walkthrough and the Jerren page cover both branches.
Ranni the Witch
The longest questline in the game and the one most worth finishing. Meet Ranni as Renna at the Church of Elleh, then at Ranni's Rise after Caria Manor; defeat Radahn to drop the stars and open Nokron; bring her the Fingerslayer Blade; collect the Cursemark of Death from the inverted Carian Study Hall; descend Ainsel River to Nokstella and the Lake of Rot; kill the Baleful Shadow and take the Discarded Palace Key to Rennala's chest for the Dark Moon Ring; then find the doll beneath the Cathedral of Manus Celes and place the ring. The Dark Moon Greatsword waits at the altar and the Age of Stars ending is unlocked. Fia's quest depends on the Cursemark from this chain, so the full guide is worth reading before Nokron.
D, Hunter of the Dead and Fia
These two stories cross at a dagger. D stands near Summonwater Village, sends you after the Tibia Mariner and then to Gurranq. Fia offers hugs at the Roundtable Hold and, once you have the Cursemark of Death from Ranni's quest, asks you to deliver a Weathered Dagger. Give it to D and she kills him, which sends her to Deeproot Depths where her champions and Lichdragon Fortissax guard the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince and the Age of the Duskborn ending. D's brother in Nokron can be woken with D's armour to finish the other half and earn the Inseparable Sword. The point of failure is simple: kill Fia or D early and the ending is gone.
Finger Reader Enia
Enia is less a quest than a series of unlocks. She appears at the Roundtable Hold after your first Great Rune, trades Remembrances for boss weapons, hands you a Talisman Pouch once you hold two Great Runes, and sells the armour of fallen demigods. Her page lists what changes after each milestone, including the moment the Two Fingers fall silent.
Rya and Tanith
Rya asks for a stolen necklace at the Laskyar Ruins and repays you with an invitation to Volcano Manor, where Tanith assigns three assassination contracts: Old Knight Istvan, Rileigh the Idle and Juno Hoslow. Each pays a weapon or set, the manor's back rooms open, and the chain ends at Rykard. Rya's own story continues through the Temple of Eiglay and the Serpent's Amnion, with an ending decided by what you tell her. Killing Rykard before the contracts are done closes the manor's shop.
Knight Bernahl, Diallos and Lanya
Bernahl sells Ashes of War at the Warmaster's Shack, moves to Volcano Manor, gives you a letter to kill Vargram and Wilhelm, and finally invades you as Recusant Bernahl in Farum Azula, dropping the Devourer's Scepter and the Blasphemous Claw that parries Maliketh. Diallos hunts for his servant Lanya, who lies dead at the Laskyar Ruins; his grief takes him to Volcano Manor and then to Jarburg, where his story ends among the living jars.
Latenna
An Albinauric archer waiting at the Slumbering Wolf's Shack, reachable after clearing the Lakeside Crystal Cave. Show her the right half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion from the Village of the Albinaurics and she becomes a Spirit Ash; carry her to the Apostate Derelict in the Consecrated Snowfield for a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. The guide covers both medallion halves.
Hyetta
A blind maiden who asks for Shabriri Grapes, which are eyes. Bring her three from Stormveil, the Purified Ruins and the Revenger's Shack, then the Fingerprint Grape from Vyke at the Church of Inhibition, and she waits for you at the Frenzied Flame Proscription beneath Leyndell. Embracing the Three Fingers there completes her story and unlocks the Frenzied Flame Seal, but it also locks you into the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending unless you later reverse it with Miquella's Needle. The walkthrough lists every grape.
Caelid
Gurranq, Beast Clergyman
D points you to the Bestial Sanctum, where Gurranq eats Deathroot. Nine exist, from the Deathtouched Catacombs to the Haligtree, and each one traded pays out a bestial incantation, the Clawmark Seal, Beast Claw, an Ash of War, and at the sixth the Stone of Gurranq, after which he attacks and must be beaten back into sense. The page maps all nine.
Sage Gowry
Gowry sits in his shack outside Sellia and asks for the Unalloyed Gold Needle from Commander O'Neil in the Aeonia swamp. Repairing it starts Millicent's long story, which runs through the Church of the Plague, the Shaded Castle, Windmill Village and the Haligtree. Gowry himself sells Night Maiden's Mist and Pest Threads as the quest advances, and killing him at the end yields the Flock's Canvas Talisman. Follow the Gowry guide and the Millicent page together.
Altus Plateau and Leyndell
Brother Corhyn and Goldmask
Corhyn sells incantations at the Roundtable Hold until he leaves to follow Goldmask, the silent sage standing on a broken bridge north of the Altus Highway Junction. Solve Goldmask's riddle with the Law of Regression incantation cast at Radagon's statue in Leyndell, follow the pair to the Ashen Capital, and collect the Mending Rune of Perfect Order for the Age of Order ending. The riddle needs 37 Intelligence or the Stargazer Heirloom, which the guide explains.
Dung Eater
The Roundtable Hold's locked door opens when you reach the Altus Plateau, revealing a red phantom who wants the Sewer-Gaol Key and then five Seedbed Curses from bodies across Leyndell, Volcano Manor and the Haligtree. Feeding them to him earns the Omen set and the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse for the Blessing of Despair ending; killing him at the Outer Moat instead drops the Sword of Milos. The walkthrough maps every curse.
Elden Ring quests FAQ
How many quests are in Elden Ring?
Around thirty NPC questlines in the base game. Our wiki covers the twenty-three with dedicated quest pages here and another eight through the character pages in the NPCs section.
Which quests affect the ending?
Ranni for the Age of Stars, Fia for the Age of the Duskborn, Corhyn and Goldmask for the Age of Order, Dung Eater for the Blessing of Despair, and Hyetta for the Lord of Frenzied Flame. Our Endings guide shows how to keep several open at once.
Which quests are easiest to miss?
Any that depend on a boss order. Burning the Erdtree ends most Leyndell conversations, killing Radahn early can skip Alexander's festival step, and Fia's chain dies with D if you give him the dagger before you have the Cursemark. The Remembrance and questline notes on each boss page flag these.
Is there a way to track quests in the game?
Only the map markers left when an NPC tells you where they are going, and not every NPC does. This page and the individual walkthroughs are the quest log the game does not provide.
