New Bordeaux is bookkeeping with guns. Lincoln Clay does not clear the city in one sweep; he takes it a district at a time, and almost everything we have written about the game is pinned to one of those districts: the paintings on its walls, the junction boxes on its corners, the errands handed out inside it and the partner whose name ends up over it. So this guide is arranged the same way, place by place.
Nine of those districts are yours to hand out, three apiece, and the second column below is the split our underbosses guide recommends. Two more places appear nowhere in that split, one of them named on several of our other pages and the other on just one, which is why they sit as the odd entries at the bottom of the ledger.
The District Ledger
| District | Handed to | Vargas paintings we place | Junction boxes we map | What begins or ends here |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delray Hollow | Cassandra | 4 | 5 | Her voodoo shop, the .45 in My Hand chain, Lazare’s boathouse |
| Barclay Mills | Cassandra | 4 | 7 | The guarded weapons shipment |
| Southdowns | Cassandra | 3 | 8 | The police van theft |
| Pointe Verdun | Thomas Burke | 3 | 6 | Burke’s yard, where the I.R.A. Don’t Ask chain is handed out |
| Tickfaw Harbor | Thomas Burke | 3 | 6 | Smuggling and auto theft rackets |
| French Ward | Thomas Burke | 3 | 4 | The jazz club and the sex racket motel |
| River Row | Vito Scaletta | 4 | 9 | His restaurant hideout and the contraband racket |
| Downtown | Vito Scaletta | 3 | 5 | Blackmail and construction rackets |
| Frisco Fields | Vito Scaletta | 3 | 7 | The yacht club and the Southern Union |
| Bayou Fantom | Not in the split | 0 | 6 | Where all three favor chains unlock, and the weed runs |
| North Lake | Not in the split | 2 | 0 | Giorgi’s Casino, and nothing else of ours |
Those figures are what our own pages actually walk you to rather than what the game holds. The Vargas paintings guide numbers thirty-two canvases, thirty of them inside the nine districts you assign. The junction boxes guide counts eighty-nine boxes across the map and currently has sixty-three of them placed, fifty-seven inside those same nine districts, with the rest still to be filled in.
Wiretap First, Then Search
The cheapest way to work through a district is to stop hunting collectibles by hand. A wiretapped junction box lights up what is nearby, which turns a painting sweep into a series of short walks. Wiretapping opens up after the Smack story mission, each box swallows three TL-49 fuses, and the fuses litter the city around bins, ledges, rooftops and underpasses, with at least one always close to a box you walk up to. The tap itself is a two-stage meter: shrink the green bar as small as you can get it, confirm, then catch the needle as it crosses the green on the larger bar that replaces it.
The paintings are the collection with no achievement attached, which our guide says up front, so they are a map exercise and nothing more. They also sit indoors almost without exception, on office walls, behind counters and in back rooms, and thirteen of the thirty-two entries name a racket or a story mission as the thing that gets you through the door, which is worth knowing before you go hunting them cold.
Cassandra’s Corner: Delray Hollow, Barclay Mills And Southdowns
Delray Hollow is Cassandra’s ground, and the address that keeps coming back is a church. Doucet’s club holds two paintings between its lobby and Merle Jackson’s office, another sits in the basement of Sammy’s Bar, and a fourth hangs in the fellowship hall that the Smack racket uses as an office in the First Baptist Church. The same church turns up twice more: Donovan flags a junction box beside it, and the boathouse round the back is where you meet Emmanuel Lazare, which is why the Hollow has to be taken and given to Cassandra before his work becomes available.
Barclay Mills is industrial and billboard country: the paintings sit in a boat garage, a garbage depot office, a quarry trailer and the boss room of a train depot hideout, and the taps hide at the foot of a radio tower, beside a water treatment plant under a radio station billboard and by the bridge across to Frisco Fields. It is also where the first gun theft Cassandra asks for is parked. Southdowns carries eight boxes, one short of River Row and the second heaviest tally we have mapped, strung between a stadium walkway, a high school, a train station, a police station and the boat docks, and it is where the police van job begins. Both of those thefts are walked through in our .45 in My Hand guide.
Burke’s Corner: Pointe Verdun, Tickfaw Harbor And The French Ward
Pointe Verdun is where Burke works, and it is the district that asks you for cars: his vehicle chain is handed out here one job at a time, in our I.R.A. Don’t Ask guide. Its three paintings are a moonshine headquarters, a meat packing plant you get inside during The Blade Stained Red, and Burke’s own office wall. Tickfaw Harbor is the harbour half of the same story, with paintings in a smuggling warehouse and two Best Oil buildings, plus taps in the rail yards and around the shipyard, one of them inside the warehouse of stolen cars the auto theft racket runs and another in a blue warehouse you enter during Hot Rubber & Cold Blood. The French Ward is the compact one, four wiretaps and three paintings, two of them in the Big Mouth Jazz and Blues club and the tunnel office beneath it and the third in a motel during Evil That Men Do.
Vito’s Corner: River Row, Downtown And Frisco Fields
River Row is the busiest district in our coverage, nine wiretaps and four paintings, two of the canvases inside Benny’s Ristorante Italiano, which doubles as Vito’s hideout, and one in a warehouse office you reach during the contraband racket. Downtown runs on hotels, clubs and building sites: a health club office, the check-in desk of the Royal Hotel and an unfinished tower you reach by dropping a crane hold the three paintings, and the taps sit in a cinema, a church alley and a police station. Frisco Fields pairs a yacht club with the Southern Union, with the art in the club’s garden house, a grocery store office and the office Bobby Bastian is confronted in, and seven boxes that take in the Griffin service station and the Griffin filling station, a round church and the building the Southern Union uses as a heritage centre.
The Two Places Nobody Is Given
Bayou Fantom sits right at the edge of the ledger. No underboss is given it in the recommended split, yet none of the errand chains open without it: the sitdown in the bayou is the gate in front of all three, and the weed business Lazare pulls you into against the Dixie Mafia is run out of these waters, with the repeatable job activating from the bayou itself, as our Are We Cool guide lays out. It also holds six wiretaps and not one painting we have found. North Lake is the opposite, two paintings tucked into the security offices of Giorgi’s Casino and not one wiretap on our list. The full set of three errand chains, sorted by what each one actually returns, is in the favors and side missions guide.
What A District Is Worth Once It Changes Hands
A district only counts once the rackets inside it belong to you and the Marcano man supervising them is dead. After that it stops being ground on a map and turns into income: whatever its rackets earn is banked by the partner whose name goes over it, and that running total is what opens the crew’s equipment up one rung at a time, from silenced telephones to a car delivered to your kerb to an extra health bar. The second column of the ledger above is a recommendation rather than a rule, and the reasoning behind each assignment sits on the pages this section points at. Our underbosses and mob bosses guide sets the removal side against the installation side, the best underboss for each district guide carries the full perk ladders and the endings each partner gets, and the mob bosses guide covers the five enemy types a racket throws at you and the targets you hit to drain its value.
If The PC Version Fights Back
None of the above matters if the game will not start. Our PC errors, crashes and FPS guide collects the launch-era problems and the workarounds that helped, from the thirty frame cap and the input lag that came with it to blurry image, crashes after cutscenes, dead controllers other than the Xbox One pad, a launcher crash our page puts down to CPUs without SSE 4.1 support, and a missing runtime file that pending Windows updates clear.
What we do not have is a story walkthrough, so this guide names missions only where a district hands you one of them, and there is one gap on the errand side too: the two favors Vito asks for are listed on the underbosses page without a guide of their own yet.
