Mountaintops Of The Giants Region Guide In Elden Ring
The Mountaintops of the Giants are the frozen roof of the Lands Between and the last region the story forces you through. Snow hides the paths, giant skeletons litter the valleys, and the Forge of the Giants burns at the far end where Melina asks you to light the Erdtree. The region also hides two doors to optional endgame areas: the Consecrated Snowfield, opened by the Haligtree Secret Medallion at the same lift you arrived on, and through it Miquella's Haligtree and a waygate to Mohgwyn Palace.
How to get in and what level to be
Defeat Morgott in Leyndell and Melina hands you the Rold Medallion; ride east from the capital to the Grand Lift of Rold and hoist it. Our boss pages put the Fire Giant at level 110 as a minimum, the Death Rite Bird here at 95, Commander Niall and Loretta beyond at 120, so 100 to 120 is the comfortable band. Bring a fire fortification for the Fire Giant, holy protection for the Godskins and Robustness for the frost that everything here inflicts.
Bosses on the Mountaintops
| Boss | Where | Why fight |
|---|---|---|
| Borealis the Freezing Fog | Freezing Lake | A Dragon Heart; fight in the open part of the lake |
| Death Rite Bird | Castle Sol approach, at night | Death Ritual Spear |
| Tibia Mariner | Lake near the Zamor Ruins | Helphen's Steeple and a Deathroot |
| Ancient Hero of Zamor | Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave | Zamor set and Zamor Curved Sword |
| Ulcerated Tree Spirit | Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs | Ghost Glovewort and a Deathroot |
| Roundtable Knight Vyke | Lord Contender's Evergaol | Vyke's Dragonbolt and the Fingerprint set |
| Commander Niall | Top of Castle Sol | Veteran's Prosthesis and the left half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion |
| Bloody Finger Okina | Church of Repose | Rivers of Blood |
| Fire Giant | Below the Forge of the Giants | Mandatory; the Remembrance of the Fire Giant and 180,000 Runes |
Beyond the medallion door, the Consecrated Snowfield adds Great Wyrm Theodorix, the Putrid Avatar under its Minor Erdtree, Astel in the Yelough Anix Tunnel and the Misbegotten Crusader in the Cave of the Forlorn, all covered on the Consecrated Snowfield page.
Dungeons and landmarks
- Castle Sol, the region's castle, with the Eclipse Shotel in its church and Commander Niall on its roof.
- Zamor Ruins at the top of the lift, with a Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing, Zamor Ice Storm and the Knights of Zamor.
- Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs and the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave, the two big underground dungeons, the second with the Giant's Seal and Flame, Protect Me behind a Stonesword Key.
- Spiritcaller's Cave for Black Flame Ritual and the Godskin Swaddling Cloth.
- Heretical Rise, reached across an invisible bridge, for Founding Rain of Stars.
- The Church of Repose where Okina invades, and the First Church of Marika on the road to the forge.
- The Stargazer Ruins, where the Primal Glintstone Blade waits behind a puzzle only the Spirit Jellyfish can solve.
- The Forge of the Giants, where the Fire Giant falls and the Erdtree burns.
NPCs
Few people live this high. Iron Fist Alexander sits at the Foot of the Forge waiting to be told he is ready, Juno Hoslow is the final Volcano Manor contract at the Shack of the Lofty, Shabriri wears Yura's body at the Zamor Ruins with a proposal about the Three Fingers, and Melina speaks her last lines at the forge. In the Snowfield beyond, Latenna asks to be carried to the Apostate Derelict. The Hermit Merchant here stocks late-game consumables, as Hermit Merchant's Shack explains.
Items worth collecting
- The left half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion at the top of Castle Sol.
- The Eclipse Shotel, a Legendary Armament sitting on an altar in Castle Sol's church.
- An Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone at the Church of Repose and Somber stones throughout; see Smithing Stones.
- The Giant's Prayerbook and One-Eyed Shield at the Guardians' Garrison.
- Ghost Glovewort in the catacombs for renowned Spirit Ashes.
Where to go next
Lighting the forge sends you to Crumbling Farum Azula and turns Leyndell to ash, so finish the capital first, above all the Bolt of Gransax and any quest that ends there. With both medallion halves, the Grand Lift of Rold offers a second destination, the Consecrated Snowfield, and from there the Haligtree and the Mohgwyn Palace waygate. The full order is in the regions guide.
