The thirteen characters with their own pages on our Tears of the Kingdom wiki divide by one question: are they where they were the last time you looked? Four of them never stop moving and can only be met by intercepting a circuit. Two relocate as the story advances, so an old set of directions leads to an empty patch of grass. The other seven stand at a quest waypoint and stay there. This guide is ordered from the most mobile to the most rooted, because that is the order in which finding them gets easier.

Always moving: the four dragons

Our dragon pages all make the same point: a dragon is not somewhere, it is on its way somewhere, on a loop that never varies. Dinraal, the fire dragon, emerges from the East Akkala Plains Chasm, sweeps Akkala and Eldin counter-clockwise, dives at the Drenan Highlands and runs the Depths clockwise, taking 48 in-game hours for the whole circuit, 24 above and 24 below. Farosh, the thunder dragon, rises from the East Gerudo Chasm, rounds the Gerudo Canyon tower, crosses Lake Hylia and drops into the Hills of Baumer Chasm on a 30.5-hour loop split 14.5 on land and 16.5 below. Naydra, the ice dragon, leaves the Naydra Snowfield Chasm, passes the Lanayru Range and Kitano Bay and dives at East Hill on a 28.5-hour loop, 16.5 above and 12 below. The Light Dragon is the slow one at 115 hours, circling clockwise over the geoglyphs, and it only comes down from above the sky islands once the Great Deku Tree is rescued and marks it on your map.

All four give up scales, claws, horn shards, spikes and fang shards to arrows, and the Light Dragon carries the Master Sword in its forehead. The trick our pages share is to photograph a dragon once and let Sensor+ track it; the trick they warn against is following one into the Depths. The dragon parts page covers what the farm is for.

Moves twice: Hestu

Hestu has three addresses, and which one is current depends on your story progress. He starts southeast of the Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower in Hyrule Ridge, kneeling in fear of two Evermean trees; the Hestu's Concerns side adventure is that first meeting, where burning the trees and handing over a single Korok Seed opens his upgrade service for good. After that, or after your first temple, he moves to a corner of Lookout Landing near the merchant stall, and once the Great Deku Tree is saved he moves a last time into the Korok Forest. He is the only person in Hyrule who takes Korok Seeds, and what he gives back is the weapon, bow and shield slots the inventory guide prices.

Moves once: Ramella

Ramella is a travelling Gerudo ore merchant with two positions on our page. Before Yunobo of Goron City she interrupts Bayge and Heehl on the road south of the city as they try to buy your ore for 3 rupees, offering 200 instead and starting Amber Dealer. After the Goron quest she is at the Sapphire shop in Goron City. Either way the deal is the same once the quest is done: she buys ores in stacks of ten at a fair price and never scams you, which the best merchants roundup weighs against the rest of Hyrule's traders.

Yunobo is the one entry here that is a fight rather than a conversation. He rolls, hits the wall, stuns himself, and takes a third of his health from any weapon each time; three of those and the mask breaks. The bosses guide ranks the real bosses by how many of each the game holds, and the sages these seven lead you to are what the quests guide puts at the top of its pay ladder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a dragon quickly?

Launch from the Skyview Tower nearest its surface leg, look for it in the sky, and if it is not there camp at the chasm it emerges from. Our pages name the tower for each: Ulri Mountain or Thyphlo Ruins for Dinraal, Gerudo Canyon or Popla Foothills for Farosh, Mount Lanayru or Sahasra Slope for Naydra.

Where is Hestu right now?

Lindor's Brow before your first temple, Lookout Landing after it, the Korok Forest after the Deku Tree is saved. If he is not at one, try the next.
