Sony PlayStation 5 Rumors Roundup – More Powerful Than Xbox One X, Expected Games, Release Date

Sony PlayStation 5 rumors roundup, expected video games, VR support, hardware specifications, and possible release date of Sony's next-gen PS5 console.

We all know the fact that Sony is not gonna appear in the E3 2019. Here is everything we know about what Sony might be planning in 2019 and 2020 for the rumored PlayStation 5 console.

PlayStation 5 Rumor Roundup

The PlayStation 5 is supposed to be the next-generation console from Sony and is said to be at least as strong, if not more powerful, than the Xbox One X.

It will be the successor of the PlayStation 4 and should be the next addition after PlayStation 4 Pro, as they are going to skip E3 2019.

There are many rumors going around with the PlayStation 5, so let us sort them out!

Specs

The PlayStation 5 is said to feature 8 cores from the powerful AMD Ryzen chipset series. This could possibly hint at the rumor that the PlayStation 5 may be able to run games at a 4K resolution with 60 FPS.

It is also expected to come with the BDXL player and support for Blu-Ray XL discs that can store around 128 GB of space.

Price

The PlayStation 5 is speculated to be priced at a reasonable $499. That’s pretty cheap for such a powerful console, and frankly, I’m looking forward to buying one too.

Release Date

The PlayStation 5 console should release around November 2020 or in early March 2021. There are speculations of Sony revealing the console at either the PlayStation Experience (PSX) convention or E3 2019 and then releasing that at a later date.

Dualshock 5

The PS5 controller seems to have changed too! The upcoming Dualshock model seems to be fairly similar to the current Dualshock 4 but with some padding. There are some other changes too.

VR Support

The PS5 console should have VR support, as early reports have said that PSVR and the upcoming console should go hand-in-hand.

Cloud Gaming

Of course, if you are the kind of guy with an amazing internet connection, but not enough hard disk space, you will be into Cloud Gaming. Originally made mainstream by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Google Project Stream.

Rumors have it that cloud gaming will also be a thing on the PS5.

Developer Kits are Already Around

The insider, RuthenticCookie, said that some big companies like Bethesda and EA already have Developer Kits for the upcoming PS5 and are making new games exclusively for the new console or just porting them over from the PS4 to the PS5.

PS5 Launch Titles

Some of the early games that might be released with the PS5 or just a month or two away from the release are:

  • Death Stranding
  • The Last of Us 2
  • Ghost of Tshushima
  • Bethesda’s Starfield, although it might release on the PS4 before the PS5.

Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Port
Yep! The groundbreaking biggest open-world game in the history of cowboy gaming: Red Dead Redemption 2 will be ported to the upcoming PS5, sometime in 2020.

This has been “leaked” by the insider RuthenticCookie. We are expecting a fine-tuned version with possibly better graphics.

Call of Duty 2019 is in Works
The new Call of Duty, from the developers of Infinity Ward, is reportedly in works, according to a job listing. Annnd it might actually be one of the early PS5 releases.

Anthem
Anthem is supposed to arrive on the PlayStation 4, but since it keeps being delayed, we might actually see a release on the PlayStation 5, alongside PlayStation 4. Apparently, EA is testing on the new developer’s kit for Anthem.

Bloodborne 2
The Bloodborne 2 will not be released very soon. It is supposed to be released later on in 2020 or early 2021, according to this leaking.

God of War
A GoW may already be in works for the next generation consoles and might be released for the PS5 possibly soon after its release. Koray Hagen has hinted at the fact.

Treyarch and Bethesda

Both Treyarch and Bethesda have reportedly been discussing the latest PS5 in their interviews.

Since all the bigwig AAA companies are actively discussing things with Sony, the imminent PS5 is not far away.

Other Studios
Some other studios seem to be involved in the early games development of the PS5. These companies include (but not limited to):

  • Square Enix (Reveal by Luminous Studio)
  • Activision (Reveal by Infinity Ward)
  • Sony Interactive Entertainment (CEO of Polyphony)
  • Bandai Namco Entertainment (Supermassive Games)
  • Bethesda Softworks (Todd Howard)
  • Defiant Studios (Devs. of Lords of the Fallen 2)
  • Warner Bros Studios (Rocksteady Studios)
  • Amazon Game Studios (Double Helix)
  • High Impact Games (Sound Designer behind Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters)

Loads of VR Games

Sony said back in January 2018 that VR games will see a substantial increase in the coming months. Of course, that has not happened yet.

We are expecting a lot of VR titles on the PlayStation 5, including some exclusives.

Camera Support

Just like the original Xbox One, Sony PS5 is supposed to have a built-in camera inside the console.

Additionally, the camera may also be included in the Dualshock 5 controller.

New Name

The new PlayStation console might be called the PlayStation V instead of the PlayStation 5.

That might actually be more viable, and easier to say than PS5. PSV being revealed at PSX. That’s hilarious!

PlayStation Experience

The PlayStation Experience is returning after a long time, and Sony is rumored to reveal the latest PS5 at the PSX expo, where all the attention should be towards Sony’s console. Of course, it is not confirmed, but we can see that happening.

Possibly a Tablet, like the Switch

According to Financial Times, Sony is planning to release a tablet-like device.

This could possibly be a device for the upcoming PlayStation 5, with cool features and stuff. I mean, running God of War on the go may be kind of fun!

Backward Compatibility

Of course, Sony has already introduced PS Now as an alternative to Backwards Compatibility: you could stream older consoles’ games on your current-gen console but that does not seem too viable and users have reported it getting too laggy.

Some people wish that Sony would introduce proper backward compatibility, and since PS5 has a structure similar to the PS4, there is a chance that Backwards Compatibility might be introduced.
