Diablo 4 Hawezar Region Guide
Hawezar is the southeastern corner of Sanctuary, south of the Fractured Peaks and east of Kehjistan. Our stronghold page describes it as swampland full of snakes and shallow, murky water, and the cellar map calls it the smallest of the five regions and one of the most densely packed.
The campaign arrives here in Act 5, when the hunt for the town of Yngovani takes you into the Serpent's Lair to fight Mohlon, Snake Queen. Zarbinzet on the Umir Plateau is the region's main city. The table counts everything here that pays Renown, using the figures our own pages give for a single altar, dungeon or stronghold.
| What Hawezar holds | How many | What one of them pays on our pages |
|---|---|---|
| Altars of Lilith | 34 | 10 Renown, XP and a permanent stat for every character |
| Strongholds | 3 | 100 Renown, a town and in two cases a waypoint or a dungeon |
| Dungeons | 23 | 30 Renown and a Codex of Power aspect on the first clear |
| Waypoints | 6 | Free fast travel, one of them inside the Vyeresz stronghold |
| Cellars | 30 | One guaranteed chest, roughly four cellars per sub-zone |
| Emote statues | Not mapped | Hawezar is one of two regions without an emote statue page on our site |
What only Hawezar has
The Tree of Whispers grows in the Writhing Mire in the north of the region. It is the only place to hand in Grim Favors from the Whispers of the Dead, ten favors buy a cache, and its waypoint counts toward the six the region has. Blightshade is the herb that grows nowhere else, according to our materials table, and the Fields of Desecration is Hawezar's world boss arena.
The Ruins of Rakhat Keep in the middle of the region is unusual in holding three dungeons in one small area, Akkhan's Grasp, Iron Hold and Steadfast Barracks, and it is where the campaign stages the second fight against Elias. Hawezar also supplies three of the eleven picks on our Nightmare dungeon tier list: Blind Burrows for XP, and Maugan's Works and Witchwater for glyph levelling.
Hawezar strongholds
| Stronghold | Level our pages give | Final boss | Reward for clearing it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crusaders' Monument | 35 | Crusader Champions, three ghostly knights | 100 Renown, gold and loot |
| Eriman's Pyre | 40 | Duz'Agur, Eriman's Bane | The level 38 Oblivion dungeon in its northwest |
| Vyeresz | 40 on the walkthrough, 42 on the region page | Dianthus, the serpent god | A waypoint and the village itself |
Crusaders' Monument sits on the western border and asks you to recover three skulls, Sir Morholt's, Dame Maryam's and Sir Thom's, before the final battle. Eriman's Pyre on the northern edge starts at the Spirit of Pyre statue, whose elites drop the Villager's Remains you need to reach Duz'Agur. Vyeresz in the Toxic Fens has been taken by a serpent cult: destroy three Serpent's Eyes, survive the cultist onslaught, then slay Dianthus in the temple ruins.
Hawezar dungeons
Twenty-three dungeons here feed the Codex of Power, and Barbarians get the best of it with five aspects, against four each for Druids, Necromancers, Rogues and Sorcerers and two for everyone. Five of the twenty-three end on an objective instead of a boss, and the Blood Bishop guards three of the rest. Our dungeon list spells three of these differently from the master table, so Endless Gates, Maugan's Works and Shadowed Plunge below are the names our pages use.

Hawezar waypoints
Six of Sanctuary's 35 waypoints are here, and the region is small enough that they cover it well. Zarbinzet on the Umir Plateau in the west is the city, Wejinhani sits in the Dismal Foothills, the Ruins of Rakhat Keep: Inner Court marks the middle, the Tree of Whispers covers the Writhing Mire in the north, Backwater on the Forsaken Coast is the southeastern stop, and Vyeresz only opens once its stronghold is cleansed. The Hawezar waypoint page maps each one.
Altars of Lilith
Hawezar ties Scosglen for the most Altars of Lilith in any region, 34, spread over Rotspill Delta, the Forsaken Coast, the Toxic Fens, the Fethis Wetlands, Blightmarsh, the Writhing Mire, the Dismal Foothills and the Umir Plateau, with one more standing in the Ruins of Rakhat Keep. Our Hawezar altar page walks them from the south northwards and notes the stat each one pays, mostly +2 Willpower, Strength or Intelligence with a few raising your Murmuring Obol cap instead.
Side quests, rare spawns and cellars
More of our side quest walkthroughs are set in Hawezar than in any other region. Brought to Heel and Bad Blood both start on the Forsaken Coast, the second only at level 61 once The Necrotic Research is done. Closing the Book ends the Desperate Remedies chain at Wejinhani, The Heretic begins with Vass in Zarbinzet, The Swamp's Protection unlocks at Timue's hovel in Blightmarsh after his earlier quests, and Traveler's Superstition is a shipwreck riddle in Rotspill Delta that a single Hello emote solves.
Four rare monsters roam the swamps with fixed drops: Captain Willcocks with the Captain's Ragged Boots, Enkil with the Eye of Enkil, Renn and Claudia Dayne with the Rogue's Haunted Crossbow, and the Trembling Mass with the Trembling Ring. Gamblers are served as well: the Purveyors of Curiosities keep two of their eight stalls in Hawezar, one on the Forsaken Coast at Backwater and one on the Umir Plateau. The 30 cellars work out to about four per sub-zone, which our cellar page says makes Hawezar the region to farm them in without travelling far.
