Iris of Grace and Iris of Occultation are special key items in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC of Elden Ring. These items are directly associated with quests in the game, Jolan and Fire Knight Queelign.
Iris of Grace is used to grant Erdtree’s light by placing it in one’s eye, while Iris of Occultation deprives the person of all light. These irises can make or break certain characters in the game.
Both irises are in very limited supply, and you can find only two of each. Let us help you find them and tell you which one you should use to maximize your rewards in Elden Ring.
Iris of Grace Location in Elden Ring
There are two Iris of Grace you can find in Shadow of the Erdtree. Both of these Irises can be found in the Church District of the Shadow Keep.

To find the first Iris of Grace, start from the Specimen Storehouse Site of Grace and go left. Enter the first room to the left and use the elevator to reach the Shadow Keep’s infirmary.

Keep going down until you reach the treatment room with an item near the altar. Defeat the Shaman enemy to collect the first Iris of Grace in Elden Ring.
To obtain the second Iris of Grace, go to the Church District Entrance site of grace by going Northwest from the Bonny Village.

Follow the rooftops of the Church District until you reach the other side of the sunken chapel. Go through the room and enter the second room to the left.
Climb the stairs to the left and follow the path until you reach a small room with a ladder. Climb the ladder and pull the lever to drain the water in the Church District.

Drop down in the Church District and follow the path until you reach the Church Altar. Go through the door and cross the hanging bridge.

Go through the cave until you reach the room right before the Scadutree Avatar boss fight. Interact with the item in the room to collect the second Iris of Grace.
Iris of Occultation Location in Elden Ring
There are two Iris of Occultation you can obtain in Elden Ring.

The first Iris of Occultation can be found by defeating an Omenkiller enemy inside the Fort of Reprimand. This castle can be found directly south of the Moorth Ruins site of grace.

Once you enter the Fort of Reprimand, turn left and jump through the hole to enter the sewers. Go down the tunnel and turn left to locate an Omenkiller.

Defeat this enemy, and it will drop the first Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring.
To obtain the second Iris of Occultation, you must defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the Sunken Chapel of the Church District.

To visit this location, drain the water if you haven’t already in the Church District. Drop down and follow the path to the southwest until you come across an Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Defeat it to obtain the second Iris of Occultation in Elden Ring.
Should you use Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation on Jolan?
During the Count Ymir quest, you will also meet Jolan, who is a Swordhand of Night. Her quest intertwines with Ymir’s Quest. Once you reach the end of both quests, you will get an option to choose either Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation on her. To reach this point, follow these steps.
- Meet Count Ymir inside the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and collect the Hole-Ladden Necklace.
- Find the Finger Ruins of Rhia and ring the Finger Bell.
- Collect the second map from Count Ymir and go to the Finger Ruins of Dheo to ring the second bell.
- Collect the third map from Ymir and enter the Finger Ruins of Miyr. Defeat Swordhand of Night, Anna, and ring the third bell.
- Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers, and return to the throne room.
- Defeat both Joland and Ymir. Talk to Jolan, and you will be presented with the option to either give Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation to her.
If you give Iris of Grace to Jolan, she will give you Swordhand of Night Jolan Ashes, which can be changed into Jolan and Anna’s ashes at Rabbath’s Rise.
If you choose to give Iris of Occultation to Jolan, you will get the Sword of Night katana. It all boils down to personal preference. If you want to see Jolan’s complete quest and want an amazing summon, stick with Iris of Grace.
However, if you want an amazing Dexterity weapon that can inflict Blood Loss upon your enemies, hand over Iris of Occultation to Jolan.
Should you give Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation to Fire Knight Queelign?
Fire Knight Queelign is a faithful follower of Messmer and will invade you as a phantom at a couple of locations.
- Go to Belurat Tower and reach the Small Private Altar site of grace. From the site of grace, go right through some rubble to reach a small garden. Fire Knight Queelign will invade you there. Defeat him to obtain the Crusade Insignia Talisman.
- From the Highroad Crosson Scadu Altus, go northwest to find the Church of the Crusade. Fire Knight Queelign will invade you again and drop Ash of War: Flame Skewer and Prayer Room Key. Go to the Church District through the Bonny Village. Jump across the roofs until you reach some beams in a building. Go left and carefully drop down on a small ledge with a door at the end. Use the Prayer Room Key to open the door, and you will find Fire Knight Queelign in flesh.
At this point, you will get an option to either give him Iris of Grace or Iris of Occultation.
If you give him Iris of Grace, you will get Fire Knight Queelign’s spirit ash. You can summon this knight during a difficult situation to your aid.
However, handing over the Iris of Occultation will reward you with Queelign’s Greatsword, an amazing weapon that can be used with Strength and Faith builds.
It is once again a personal choice to make, depending on what rewards you want. As we are a massive sucker for the weapons, we recommend using Iris of Occultation on Fire Knight Queelign in Elden Ring.
