Quests
Persona 3 runs on a calendar, and its side content runs on deadlines. Velvet Room requests open on set dates, some expire within a week, and the last one the game asks of you is not a request at all but a single decision on New Year's Eve that decides how the story finishes. This guide walks that year in order: when things open, the two requests that ask for something other than an object, and what happens on 12/31.
The request calendar
You can hold three requests at a time, so knowing which ones expire is more useful than knowing which ones exist. These are the dates our pages record.
| Date | What happens | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| April 30 | The Pine Resin request appears on the list | Deliver by 5/7 |
| May 2 | The only day Yukari will hand over the Pine Resin, at the dorm after school | Same request |
| May 10 | The Triangular Sword request opens, and so does the Jack Frost with Dia request | Sword by 6/6, Jack Frost never expires |
| May 11 | The flower watering request opens, and the dorm asks you to find the Command Room that evening | None |
| May 26 | You meet Mitsuru after class; ask her that evening for the Fencing Epee | Part of the sword request |
| June 10 | Shell of a Man becomes available, and Shinshoudo Antiques opens | None |
| August 8 | Story progress needed before the bar will serve you | None |
| December 31 | The choice that sets your ending | The only decision that matters |
The object hunts on that list are solved in our items guide, and the Jack Frost errand is really a fusion lesson, covered in our Jack Frost with Dia guide and our mechanics guide. The Command Room detour is a dorm objective rather than a request; our dungeons guide explains where the game is actually pointing you.
Water the flowers
This one opens on 11 May with no deadline and takes about a minute, but it catches people out because the obvious flowers are the wrong flowers. Our flowers guide walks it: go up to the roof of Gekkoukan High, ignore the set of flowers between the benches in front of you, find the healthy student sitting on the other benches, and water the flowers directly behind him instead. Elizabeth pays out a Maid Outfit for Mitsuru.
The drink that shares her name
The other non-fetch request sends you to a bar, and it is gated by social stats rather than by geography. Our Elizabeth drink guide covers it: the drink is the Queen Elizabeth cocktail, sold at the Que Sera Sera bar on the far west side of the island. Travel to Port Island Station (Outskirts), head west, talk to the bartender and buy it, then take it back to the Velvet Room.
The catch is the door policy. You need the highest rank of Charm to get into the bar at all, the highest rank of Courage to order the drink, and the story has to have reached August 8. Completing it hands over AS Generic Material, the crafting stock behind gear like the Nucleus Rifle, Phalanx Shell and Rock Dog Suit. It also unlocks the Beautiful Tile request, so it is worth clearing before the year gets busy.
If your Charm or Courage is short, the fastest fixes are the part-time job at Chagall Cafe on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, which pays both; movies, which give Courage in even-numbered months and Charm in odd ones; the game parade's horror house on Tuesdays and Fridays for Courage; Print Club on Monday and Thursday for Charm; Hagakure ramen for Charm; and a Wild Duck Burger for Courage. Our mechanics guide has the full social stat breakdown.
New Year's Eve, and both endings
Spoilers from here. Our endings guide covers the whole sequence, and the short version is that nothing you do in the previous nine months changes which ending you get. On New Year's Eve, Ryoji tells you he is the harbinger of doom and the avatar of Nyx, and asks you to kill him. That single answer is the entire branch.
Kill him: the bad ending
Ryoji explains upfront what killing him costs. You forget everything, including your bonds and every night spent in Tartarus, and none of it stops what is coming. The game jumps to graduation day in March with the cast happy and oblivious, then the screen goes black. It is a short, bittersweet finish and best kept on a separate save file.
Spare him: the true ending
Refuse and Ryoji shows his true form and asks you to reconsider. Hold your answer and January plays out normally: another month of social links, and the last block of Tartarus opens. The final boss will not appear before 31 January, so use the time to climb. Beat Nyx and the calamity is averted with Ryoji still alive. In New Game Plus, a romance with a SEES member changes some of the dialogue in this ending, but not the ending itself.
The climb to Nyx is the hardest part of the true route. Our bosses guide covers the 14-phase fight at the top and the two Strega bosses waiting on floors 258 and 262 on the same night.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get the true ending if I have ignored my social links?
Yes. The ending depends only on the New Year's Eve answer. Social links change your personas and some dialogue, not the outcome.
When does the last month open up?
The moment you spare Ryoji on 12/31. January is free time plus the final block of Tartarus, and Nyx will not appear until the 31st.
Which requests should I not put off?
The ones with dates attached: Pine Resin on 5/2, the Fencing Epee on the evening of 5/26, and the bar request once you can hit maxed Charm and Courage after August 8.
