Items

There are 135 things to find in Kyrat across our four collectible pages, and they split cleanly by the action that makes one count. A Mask of Yalung only has to be destroyed, from any distance you like. A mani wheel has to be spun by hand. A lost letter is a pickup, a quarter of them lifted out of a dead man's bag, and one of Mohan Ghale's journals comes off a table or a dresser, once in a room that only opens if Pagan Min is spared. That ordering, from a bullet to a doorway, is also the order of effort.

Shoot it: the Masks of Yalung

The masks are the largest set and the loosest rule. Our page is explicit that you never have to touch one; destroying it counts, and that can be done from range. The directions still matter, because a shot needs a line of sight, and Yalung's masks are placed where sightlines are short. By our count of the 55 entries, ten are in or under water, on lake beds and pond bottoms, at the foot of a well, on two riverbeds, inside a sunken truck and a sunken boat. Three are inside cages, one of them with a dead lion for company, and a fourth sits between a cage and the building at Medicinal Poacher. A dozen lie on or beside a body, from a gurney at the back of the Partisans' Clinic to a corpse on the Sky Burial platform at the top of a mountain. The rest are under beds, on shelves, in a fire pit, behind boards, and at the back of caves whose names say what they are: Yalung's Skull, Yalung's Heart, Yalung's Stomach, Yalung's Soul.

A handful need climbing gear rather than a gun. The mask at Kyra's Respite wants a grapple from x:423 y:390 to a south-western platform, the one at x:531 y:484 is a mountain climb from a grapple point at its base, and Ska'l Cave, the Sky Burial and Asru Cave all involve a grapple to a ledge or through a ceiling. The page lists the 55 in order of their x coordinate, which means it reads as a sweep from Bagmati Camp at x:200 to Asru Cave at x:832, and that is a sensible route to follow.

Spin it: the 40 mani wheels

Mani wheels are cylinders with prayers on them, and spinning one offers the prayer to Kyra, which is the story's excuse for an achievement and a slice of the completion percentage. There is nothing to fight and nothing to solve; the whole job is arriving. Our page keys each of the 40 by coordinates and gives a place name for 27 of them, and the names are a tour of Kyrat's religious furniture: Kyra's Refuge, Kyra's Guidance, Kyra's Pilgrimage, the Great Drought Chorten, Chal Jama Monastery, the Sherpa Scripture Camp, Nadi Shrine, Visala Shrine, Pathika Shrine. The other 13 are coordinates alone, so keep the map open. Like the masks, the list climbs by x coordinate from x:200 to x:811, so it can be walked west to east in one pass.

Two wheels on the list turn up elsewhere on our pages. Kyra's Meditation, wheel 22, is the cave where the first Reggie and Yogi trip ends, and Kalinag's Wisdom, wheel 13, is the island where journal 9 sits beside a thangka fragment. The mani wheels inside Shangri-La are not part of this count; they are switches in those missions, covered in our side quests guide.

Take it from a skeleton: the lost letters

The letters are the correspondence between Lieutenant Robert Barclay and Charlotte, his wife, twenty of them running from June 1819 to July 1820 and alternating between the two writers. They are the only set with a reward ladder rather than a single payout: a Karma bonus at four letters, an XP bonus at eight, the Caretaker of Memory trophy at ten, Karma again at twelve, and XP again at all twenty. That makes them the collection to start with if you want something back quickly.

Five of the twenty are in the bag of a skeleton or a dead man, and close to half are at the back of a cave or a mine, including the Sealed Keo Mine and a hilltop cave at Lieutenant's Rest that ends with a grapple to the top of a shaft. Others sit by a shrine at Banashur's Refuge, under the stairs of a house behind Keo Logistics, around a small flag tower above Svargiya Takataki Camp, and on an island near Rato Lagoon. One is on the way down Kalinag's Descent, the waterfall that opens the third Shangri-La visit, so read our Shangri-La walkthrough before you jump. Our page also carries a fix for the letter people most often report as missing, Robert's of June 1819, which does not always show on the map: head east from Smuggler's Portage until you find a skeleton near the river.

Take it off the table: Mohan Ghale's journals

Mohan Ghale's journals are the record of Ajay's father, and they are the set most tied to progress. Four are on dressers and tables in safe houses at Banapur, Khilana Bazaar, Shanath Breeders and Rochan Brick Co. Shipping, the last one only after the area is liberated. Two are underwater, on a rock at the bottom of the Collapsed Ghupa shaft and on the bed of Lake Visalakhutta. Several are cave finds with a climb attached, at the pit of Nadi Gardiyana Summit, the boarded-up Udayagiri Cave, the ledge above the opening in Yalung's Spine and the boulders up Ashti Den. The airport journal is reachable straight after the Free Willis mission, and the twentieth is on a table in the Royal Palace that you only see if you spare Pagan Min at the end, which makes it the one collectible on our pages gated by a choice. Our crafting and endings guide lays out that choice.

Like the masks and the wheels, the journals are numbered by x coordinate, from Banapur at x:216 to the palace at x:737. Three of the four collectible pages therefore run west to east, and a completionist can walk all three lists at once by sorting everything on the map by longitude. The towers you liberate along the way are what put most of these places on the map in the first place; our towers and fortresses guide counts the 48 places the towers reveal and which of them hold something from this page.

Questions our pages can answer

Do you get anything for finding everything? Each set pays in its own coin on our pages: Guns for Hire tokens for the masks, an achievement for the wheels, the Karma, XP and trophy ladder for the letters, and the platinum's completion requirement for the journals. None of the four pages promises a weapon or a vehicle.

Which is the hardest single collectible? By the rules above it is journal 20, because it needs an ending rather than a climb. By the directions, the mask at x:753 y:709 gets the longest route on the page, a hill climb from x:755 y:702 to a ledge with vines and then a white house whose fire pit holds it.

Where does all of this fit in a playthrough? Our Far Cry 4 guide puts the four sets after the towers and before the fortresses, for the simple reason that the map has to be lit before coordinates mean anything.
