Mechanics

Forty-three of our pages describe a Diablo Immortal system, and the thing that separates them is not what they do but how often they are willing to do it. A handful have no ceiling at all and will keep paying for as long as you keep playing. Most sit behind a counter that empties at 3 a.m. and refills once. A smaller group only comes round on a Monday, two of them only on named weekdays, and two only once a month. At the far end are the systems with no clock on them whatsoever, because the only thing rationing them is your wallet.

That is the order this guide uses, and it is worth reading in that order, because the ranking answers the question a returning player actually has: I have forty minutes tonight, what am I losing by not spending them here? A system with no cap loses you nothing, it will still be there tomorrow. A daily counter you did not empty is gone at 3 a.m. and does not come back.

Two things run underneath all of it. Reset lands at three in the morning wherever your server lives, which means the day you are playing belongs to the server rather than to you, and Monday carries the weekly rollover at that same hour. And two of the systems below are the only ones in the game you genuinely cannot undo, which is why they sit in their own section at the end.

No cap: the systems that never say no

Four systems have no counter on them at all, and they are the reason Diablo Immortal is playable at all on an evening when you have missed every daily.

Elder Rifts are the clearest case. Entry costs nothing and there is no limit on how often you go back in, while a single clear runs about five minutes, which makes them the best time-for-loot trade in the game and the reason they turn up in almost every other page here. The catch is not the rift, it is the Crest you put into it: an unmodified rift pays ordinary loot, and it is the Rare and Legendary Crests that turn a clear into guaranteed Runes and Legendary Gems. You get one free Rare Crest a day from the rift portal and everything beyond that is bought, which is how an uncapped activity ends up rationed anyway.

Challenge Rifts work the same way and can be entered and exited as often as you want, across a hundred difficulty levels with a randomised layout, guardian and pylon set each time. Only the first clear of the day pays the Daily Challenge Rift Reward of Enchanted Dust and a little Scrap Material; the rest of your runs are for the leaderboard, which is a weekly and a monthly thing rather than a daily one. That split, one capped reward sitting inside an uncapped activity, is the pattern to watch for across this whole bucket.

Salvaging and upgrading gear are the two ends of the same loop and neither has a limit. You break gear down at any blacksmith for Scrap, Enchanted Dust and Glowing Shards, and you spend those straight back on rank upgrades. Two details matter more than the rest: your salvage yield scales with the Paragon World System, so the loop pays better the longer you have played it, and salvaging cannot be reversed, which is the first of this bucket's two one-way doors.

Sitting alongside those are the pages that are not activities at all but the rules the activities run on. Attributes explains what the primary and secondary stats actually do and which ones each class should raise. Item rarity covers the four tiers from Common to Legendary and how sockets and bonus attributes scale across them. Elite monsters lists the Champion, Rare, Legendary and Unique packs with their affixes and the counter to each. Difficulty covers the four Hell tiers that open at level 60 and raise both monster Combat Rating and loot quality. None of them pay anything by themselves, and all four are worth reading before the ones that do.

Per run: whatever the world is doing right now

The next rung up is not capped by a number, it is capped by whether the thing is happening. These are the zone events, and their limit is that you have to be standing in the right place at the right time.

Demon Gates appears at random in the Realm of Damnation and wants a group of three at Hell difficulty to close the gates, paying gear, dust and Hilts. Once it spawns your window to enter is limited, so the practical advice on that page is the right one: get on with something else and go when it fires rather than waiting for it. The Haunted Carriage runs in Ashwold Cemetery and is an escort with a Tax Collector boss at the end of it. Lost Artifacts is the Shassar Sea event, where Mysterious Scrolls open Ancient Urns for a treasure reward, and its own page is honest that the scroll drop rate is low and your carrying limit makes it worse.

Zone events as a class only run between 8 a.m. and midnight on server time, and you need to finish three of the timed events in a window to collect. Two of them have hard schedules rather than random ones and are covered in our bosses guide, because their limit is a calendar rather than a counter.

Daily: the counters that empty at 3 a.m.

This is the biggest group and the one the reset time actually matters for. Every number below refills once a day at 3 a.m. server time, and every one you do not use is gone.

SystemThe daily numberWhat happens if you miss it
Bounties8 a day, 4 active at once, 3 re-rollsBacklog carries, but stops at 24
Bestiary3 pages, 10 Monster Essence eachFurther pages come back as duplicates
Gambling25 rolls per gear slotNothing carries, and prices climb as you go
Shadow Lottery3 draws, 60 minutes eachThe draw is gone; wait for the next one
Battlegrounds3 runs for Paragon XPOnly open at four fixed hours for two hours each
Free Rare Crest1, at the Elder Rift portalGone; the rest are bought
Legacy of Horadrim1 free chest, up to 21 with keysThe free one is gone

Bounties are the spine of the daily list and the one with the most forgiving design. You unlock the board through Charsi in Westmarch, pick them up from Quartermaster Derek beside it, and can hold four at a time out of the eight the board gives you each day. Unfinished ones roll forward, which sounds generous until you notice the ceiling: the backlog stops at twenty-four, so three missed days is the most the game will hold for you. You also get three re-rolls a day, which our abandoning bounties page is the right companion to, since the whole point of a re-roll is dumping a bounty in a zone you are not in for one in a zone you are.

The Bestiary has the least obvious cap in the game and the one most worth knowing. Ten Monster Essence buys a page, and the page pays Life and Damage bonuses on top of the lore, but the game only allocates three uncounted pages a day. Past that you keep getting pages and they come back as duplicates, so essence spent after your third page of the day is essence wasted. Trade at ten and stop at three.

Gambling opens at level 35 with the vendor Yakin and trades gold for mystery gear up to twenty-five times a day per slot. The prices rise as you go, and the page's advice to stay inside ten purchases per category is about the price curve rather than the cap. The Shadow Lottery runs three times a day for an hour each and is the entry route to the Shadows, with the Mysterious Patron in Westmarch and the three Shadow Meddle objectives after you win. Battlegrounds, the game's only 8v8 mode, is open at four fixed times a day for two hours each, which makes it the one daily whose window can close on you while you are logged in.

Two more daily systems are really progression pages that happen to have a counter. Legacy of Horadrim unlocks at level 49, wants all nine Vessels socketed in Iben Fahd's Sanctum, and gives one free chest a day out of a possible twenty-one if you have Aspirant's Keys or Platinum to spend. Legendary farming is the roundup of where legendaries actually come from, and its honest verdict is that daily bounties are a weak source you should do anyway, with Hell difficulty, the PvP arena, the Tomb of Fahir and the Library of Zoltun Kulle doing the heavy lifting.

Weekly: Monday, and two named weekdays

The weekly rollover is Monday at 3 a.m. server time, and it carries the systems with the largest single payouts in the game.

The Helliquary unlocks after Bilefen and is the raid frame: you seal Demonic Remains taken from raid bosses into it and spend Hellfire Scoria to raise it, and what you get back is Combat Rating, which is the number everything else in the endgame checks. Its bosses reset twice a week rather than once, and the first of them, Lassal the Flame-Spun, comes round on Mondays and Thursdays. Two attempts a week is the whole budget, which is why raising your Combat Rating before the reset matters more here than anywhere else: turning up under the bar wastes one of two shots rather than one of many.

Reforging re-rolls item stats at the blacksmith using Family bonus attributes, and it is gated on Reforge Stones rather than on the bench. You can buy up to eight a week from the Hilst merchant and earn more from Battlegrounds depending on your rank, and that eight is the real limit on how much stat-shopping you can do in a week.

The faction systems are weekly by construction. The Cycle of Strife is the frame, pitting the Immortals against the Shadows, with the Rite of Exile on Sundays deciding who holds the top. It also carries the single hardest cap in the game and one that has nothing to do with time: there can only be five hundred Immortals per server, while the Shadows have no limit at all. Raid the Vault is the Shadow side of it, needing Shadow Rank 3 and a Shard of Living Night, and Kion's Ordeal is the Immortal side, a forty-eight-player raid against the Tormentors with a chest lottery at the end. Shadow Contracts run weekly, and finishing three in a week is what opens the Marks chests.

Monthly, and the things only money moves

Two counters run on the calendar month. The Challenge Rift leaderboard resets on the first of the month at 3 a.m. with the previous month's rewards mailed out, and the Hilts trader's monthly stock is a single Legendary Crest and a single Legendary Gem. That second one is the quiet centre of the whole economy: the Crest is what turns an Elder Rift into a gem source, and buying one with Hilts is the only route to one that a clock rather than a card controls. Farming Legendary Gems is the page that walks the whole chain, and its conclusion is the same one this ordering keeps arriving at: the rift is free, the Crest is not, and the five-star gems sit behind a drop rate on top of that.

Which is what the last group is. The Shop runs on Eternal Orbs and sells the Battle Pass, Crests, Featured deals, Bundles, Cosmetics and the Boons of Plenty, with a free daily bundle of basic materials thrown in and deals that rotate daily or hourly. The Market opens at level 25 through the NPC Dya and trades Gems, Legendary Gems and Skill Stones for Platinum, which is the semi-premium layer between the two. Awakening needs a Dawning Echo before it will lift a legendary's Resonance at all. None of the three has a daily counter, and that is exactly the point: they are the systems where the ceiling is what you are willing to spend.

Our free-to-play assessment and the daily routine checklist are the two pages that deal with this directly, and they are the right pair to read together: one lists what the clock gives you, the other is candid about where the clock stops being the constraint.

The two one-way doors

Almost everything above comes round again. Two things do not, and both are easy to trip over because nothing warns you loudly.

Salvaging is not reversible. An item broken down at a blacksmith is gone, and there is no buy-back, so the check to run before you clear your bags is whether anything in them is a set piece or a legendary you have not compared against what you are wearing.

Paragon Points cannot be reset either, and unlike salvaging that is by design rather than by omission. Each Paragon level after 60 grants one point, and the points go into six trees, Survivor, Vanquisher, Treasure Hunter, Gladiator, Soldier and Mastermind, each capping at a hundred, so Paragon 600 fills all six. Only one tree is active at a time. The Paragon system page makes the case that no reset is needed because every node is eventually reachable, which is true in the long run and no comfort at all in the first fortnight. Spend deliberately early and the trees sort themselves out later.

Everything else in this bucket

The rest of the mechanics pages are one-off setup rather than recurring systems, and they are worth knowing about mostly so you do not go looking for them elsewhere.

For getting started: character creation covers the six classes, gender and the three face presets each class gets. The leveling walkthrough takes you from 1 to 60 zone by zone and levelling fast is the compressed version of the same route. Auto-navigate unlocks once you have cleared every quest in a zone. The lore timeline places the game five years after Diablo 2 and fifteen before Diablo 3.

For playing with other people: multiplayer opens after Wortham and covers parties, clans and Warbands, and the Warband camp quest is how you actually get one. Cross progression ties your PC and mobile saves together through Battle.net, servers covers picking a region and checking status, and disabling chat is the one page here that exists purely to make the game quieter.

And for gear that is already in your bags, Essence Transfer is the system most worth reading twice. The vendor Zamina extracts a legendary's skill and inherits it onto another item, changing that item's name, appearance and attribute, which means a legendary whose stats you have outgrown is not dead weight, it is a skill you can move. It has no cap, and it is the closest the game comes to letting you undo a gearing decision.

Frequently asked questions

What time does Diablo Immortal reset? Three in the morning, measured against whichever server your character sits on, and that figure does not change from one region to the next. Monday brings the weekly rollover at that same hour; the first of the month brings the leaderboards.

Do unfinished bounties carry over? Yes, but only up to twenty-four. The board hands you eight a day and holds the ones you miss until the backlog hits that ceiling.

What is the point of running Elder Rifts without a Crest? Ordinary loot and about five minutes of your time. The Crest is what makes the run pay Runes and Legendary Gems, and you get one free Rare Crest a day at the portal.

Can I respec Paragon Points? No. There is no reset option and none has been announced. Every node is reachable eventually across the six trees, so the cost of a wrong early point is time rather than a dead build.

Which daily is worth the most if I only have time for one? The Helliquary raid on a Monday or a Thursday, because it is one of two shots a week rather than one of eight a day. On any other evening, the eight bounties, since they are the only daily that quietly expires at a backlog cap.
