Watch Dogs Legion Tech Points: What They Buy and Where They Hide

Tech points are the currency behind every gadget, upgrade, weapon and hack on DedSec's tech list, and the only collectible in Watch Dogs Legion that changes how the game plays. You start earning them a few missions in, either as mission rewards or as pickups scattered around London, and once a borough is liberated its points appear on the map. The catch, which both of our borough pages make in their first lines, is that the map icon is an approximation: it leads you to the building, and the point is somewhere up, under or inside it.

What they unlock

Our best tech and upgrades guide is the shopping list. On the gadget side it puts the Infiltrator Spiderbot first, for scouting and quiet takedowns and for reaching the points themselves, then the DedSec Grenade Launcher, the AR Cloak that is one of the two starting picks, the Disrupt Hack, the Missile Drone, the Attract Hack that arms enemy traps, and the Skin Mesh, which costs 45 points and is the armour you want if permadeath is switched on. On the upgrade side it names the Deep Profiler at 25 points, which is what lets you recruit people who dislike DedSec and even Albion guards, plus Gun Jam and the AR Shroud for hiding a body after a takedown. Our essential tips guide adds the spending order: drone skills first, because enough of them let you take over enemy drones, and the Spiderbot straight away.

What to bring

Two gadgets do most of the collecting. The Spiderbot handles vents, restricted interiors and the room behind a hacked electric door, and the Cargo Drone carries you onto a station roof, down to the embassy waterfront and up to a hospital balcony. Our Tower Hamlets page tells you flatly not to start the hunt without both. If you have not bought the drone yet, a construction worker on the team can summon one, which our best recruits guide lists as the main reason to hire one.

Nine Elms: 8 points

The Nine Elms page is the more gadget-heavy of the two. Half its points are Spiderbot jobs, three of them through air vents and one a throw from the water, two want the Cargo Drone, and three sit behind wooden walls or panels you have to break, the station roof among them.

Tower Hamlets: 11 points

The Tower Hamlets page gives each point a compass position inside the borough, which is worth having because the map icon does not. Six of its eleven are Spiderbot work, only one needs the drone, and the remaining four are rooftops, a patio and a cage that the page names without calling for a gadget.

Reading the two lists together

Across the nineteen points we have mapped, ten are Spiderbot jobs, three need the Cargo Drone and six ask for nothing beyond a climb or a walk. That split is the practical argument for buying the Spiderbot with your first points: it collects more of the next ones than any other purchase. Albion sites recur on both pages, three stations and a drone facility among them, so an operative with uniformed access to Albion territory, which our recruits guide covers, saves a lot of vent crawling. Where the other collectibles sit relative to these points, borough by borough, is on our collectibles guide.
