Mechanics

Persona 5 gates an enormous amount of content behind five numbers. Confidants refuse to talk to you, dialogue options grey out, part-time jobs turn you away, and the reason is always one of the same five bars sitting too low. Almost everything in this bucket either raises one of them or spends what they unlock.

Thirty-two pages sit here, which makes it by far the largest part of this wiki. Sorted by the five bars first and the Velvet Room second, it stops being a pile of features and becomes an order of operations.

One activity beats every other, and it is not close

Our parameters guide lists the activities that raise each social stat, with the point value next to each. Read all five lists side by side and one entry appears in every single one of them, at the highest value on offer.

Reading is the only activity in the game that is top of the list for all five stats. Everything else is specialised, so a night at the batting cage helps exactly one bar and a book helps whichever bar you chose when you bought it. Our books guide lists every title with its cost and which stat it feeds, and it deserves to be read before the parameters page rather than after it.

The practical rule that falls out: buy books early, read them on days when the weather or your schedule has ruined a better plan, and keep the specialised activities for stats a book cannot reach fast enough. Batting cage, crossword puzzles, the TV quiz show, the maid café, retro games and fishing each have their own page and each feeds a narrow slice.

Two activities pay in more than stats. Part-time jobs pay money and social stats and open Confidants, which makes them the most efficient use of an evening you had no plans for. And exam answers is worth having open on the day, since performing well in exams is itself a Charm boost.

What the bars are actually for

The bars exist to unlock Confidants, and Confidants are where Persona 5 wires its two halves together. Every Confidant belongs to an Arcana, and so does every Persona.

That connection is not decorative. Our fusion guide spells it out: when the Persona you create shares an Arcana with a Confidant you have ranked up, it gains bonus experience, scaled to your rank with that person. Arcana Boost is the mechanism, and it means an afternoon spent talking to someone in Shibuya makes your next fusion stronger. A social sim paying directly into a dungeon crawler is unusual, and it is the reason this game rewards planning that other Persona games do not.

Getting the ranks up faster is what confidant gifts is for, and romance options covers where those relationships can go. One page covers a specific pairing worth knowing about: Haru and Yusuke's cooperation.

The Velvet Room half

Fusion is the core loop and it has four modes worth telling apart. Normal Fusion combines two Personas. Advanced Fusion takes more than two and produces the high-level results. Fuse by Result works backwards from what you want, and our page recommends it outright as the one to use by default. Network Fusion trades with other players online and is the only mode with an outcome you do not control.

Two things multiply your results. Fusion Alarms are random Velvet Room events that raise the chance of a rare Persona, so the advice is to hold your fusions until one fires. And the Strength Confidant, run by the twins, is ranked up by fulfilling fusion requests rather than by spending time, which makes it the one Confidant that costs you Personas instead of days.

Filling the stock in the first place is negotiations, where you talk Shadows into joining rather than killing them, and skills covers what you are actually building towards across physical, magic, recovery, support and ailment types. Leveling and money farming handle the two grinds, and the money page is worth reading for the Confusion trick alone.

The heist half

Two systems belong to the Palaces rather than the calendar. Infiltration tools are crafted at your desk, and crafting them is itself a Proficiency boost, which is a rare case of a preparation task paying twice.

Calling cards is the system that gives the game its shape. Sending one makes the Treasure appear and starts the clock on the heist, so it is the one moment in each Palace where you choose to commit. Our page covers the card for every target from Kamoshida onwards, and the dungeons guide covers what waits behind each one.

Settings, second runs and trophies

Difficulty runs from Safe through Easy, Normal and Hard to Merciless, and the page covers which of those you can change mid-run. If you are going round again, New Game Plus and what carries over are the two halves of the same question, and the second is the one that decides whether your first run's compendium was worth completing.

Two trophies get pages of their own because both are easy to lock yourself out of. Mask Collector wants a full compendium, which means registering Personas before you fuse them away. Drink Fanatic wants every drink from the vending machines, which is a habit rather than a task: buy one you have not tried each time you walk past.
