Items
Two kinds of items in Fire Emblem Three Houses exist only to deepen relationships. Gifts are presents you hand to students and staff while exploring Garreg Mach, and lost items are belongings you pick up around the monastery and carry back to their owner. Neither does anything in battle, yet both feed the support ranks that speed up recruitment, keep students motivated and, after the timeskip, open the door to romance. This guide folds our gifts and favorite flowers page and our lost items locations page into one character-by-character reference, so a single row tells you what to bring before you start a conversation.
How gifts and lost items raise support
No gift is ever turned down. What changes is the return. A present the character likes lifts the bond a little and adds 25 motivation; one they count as a favorite lifts the bond considerably more and adds 50 motivation. Something they do not care for is still accepted, but neither number moves, so a wasted gift costs you only the item. Returning a lost item is simpler: there is one correct owner, and handing it over produces a large bond gain.
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Favorite gift | Large bond gain and 50 motivation |
| Liked gift | Small bond gain and 25 motivation |
| Disliked gift | Accepted, with no bond or motivation change |
| Returned lost item | Large bond gain |
Motivation is worth tracking because, as our gifts page notes, a motivated student is more willing to help in battle, and a fuller bond is what eventually lets you pull a student out of a rival house. Both pages agree on one twist for flowers: the shops never stock them, so every flower you give has to be grown.
Where the items come from
Gifts turn up three ways. You stumble on them while exploring the monastery, you receive them as mission rewards, and you buy them from the monastery vendors or the Merchant Shop. Flowers are the exception. They are planted and plucked at the greenhouse, which makes the gardening system your florist: flower seeds come from the Western Merchant once you have finished Clearing the Way in Chapter 5, and a few loose seeds lie near the Amiibo Gazebo and on the greenhouse floor itself.
Lost items begin with Jeralt. His Chapter 3 request to recover his flask is the tutorial, and once the Wooden Flask is back in his hands new belongings start appearing around the grounds every month of the academy phase. Each one belongs to a specific person and sits in a set spot, from the Fishing Pond to the Second Floor Library, and the lost items page lists nine months of them with the room and the owner for each.
Every character's favorites at a glance
The tables below merge both pages. Gifts are the ones each character treats as a favorite, the flower is the one they like from the greenhouse, and the lost items are the belongings the lost items page attributes to them across the year. Where our gifts page describes a preference by type rather than by named item, the type is given as written.

Who wants the gift you are holding
Reading the list the other way round answers a different question: you have a spare item and want the character who values it most. The Tasty Baked Treat is the most widely loved present on our page, with nine takers, and the Smoked Meat, Hunting Dagger and Goddess Statuette are close behind, which makes those four the safest things to keep in your bag.

Flowers follow the same logic with a much shorter list. Eleven varieties have a named admirer on our page, and three of them (the Sunflower, the Forget-me-not and the Lily of the Valley) please more than one person, so those are the seeds worth planting first.
| Flower | Give it to |
|---|---|
| Sunflower | Petra, Alois, Shamir |
| Forget-me-not | Ignatz, Flayn, Anna |
| Lily of the Valley | Marianne, Constance |
| Pitcher Plant | Bernadetta, Hapi |

Working gifts into the weekly routine
Presents are one lever among several, and they land hardest as part of a pattern. Share a meal, invite the student to a tea party with their favorite blend, answer their note in the advice box, pick the right line when a dialogue choice comes up, and hand back their belongings the month they drop. Our birthdays page adds a timing trick, since celebrating with a character on their day is one more occasion to give something they love. The recruitment page explains the payoff: a student from another house whose support with you has climbed high enough will join without you meeting their stat and skill demands.
For everything else that happens between battles, from certification exams to battalions, our mechanics guide walks through a full month at Garreg Mach.
Frequently asked questions
Can I give gifts to characters from other houses?
Yes. The gifts page describes them as a way to improve relations with anyone living at the monastery, and raising support with students from the other two houses is exactly how recruitment works.
What do I need before lost items start appearing?
Complete Jeralt's Chapter 3 quest to find and return his flask. After that, lost belongings appear around the monastery each month during the academy phase, and the lost items page lists them month by month with their location.
Where do I buy flowers?
You cannot. Flowers are grown from seeds in the greenhouse, and the gardening page lists where seeds come from and how many items each cultivation method yields.
Is there any penalty for a wrong gift?
No. The character still accepts it; you simply get no bond or motivation change, so hold unloved items back for someone in the tables above.
