Two of our Far Cry Primal pages deal in things Takkar picks up: the resources page, which lists 61 materials with a where-to-find line for each, and the food recipes page, which lists the nine healing recipes those materials cook into. Read side by side, every where-to-find line collapses into one of four answers. Some things grow anywhere in Oros. Some wait at a named edge of the map. Some are a rare roll hidden inside a common pickup. Two sit behind a story mission, and one leaf sits behind a mission and a roll at once. This guide sorts all 61 by that answer, then reads each recipe through the leaf that decides where it sends you. What the materials build is the subject of the skills and village guide, while the main Far Cry Primal guide arranges the whole game by what is trying to kill you.
The four distances
| Distance | Resources | What the page says |
|---|---|---|
| Anywhere in Oros | 23 | All animals, all around Oros, wood, stones and rocks, hives, dead bodies |
| A named edge | 20 | Western, northern or southern edge of Oros, sometimes near water |
| A rare roll | 16 | Rarely while collecting the common version, or rarely among other animals of the kind |
| Behind a mission | 2 | Complete Blood of Oros; complete Wogah's Claw |
Those four rows add up to 61, with one caveat: Rare North Yellow Leaf is counted among the rolls, but its line also names a mission (Into Udam Land), so it belongs to two rows at once. The pattern behind the rows is simple. Weapon materials and everyday food are everywhere. Every building material is either at a named edge or a rare roll inside one that is. Skins split three ways. And the rare versions are never a place, only a chance, apart from the two the story hands you.
Anywhere in Oros: the 23 you never travel for
All seven weapon materials are in this row. Animal Fat and Animal Hide come off any animal, Bone off any large one, Hardwood from wood, Flint from stones and rocks, Bee Clusters from hives and Clay Pots from dead bodies. Between them they cover clubs, spears, shards, traps, arrows, sting bombs, fire bombs and berserk bombs, and Animal Fat is also what sets a weapon alight until the Fire Master I skill removes the need. Bone is the odd one out with two named products, the Kapala Shard and the Blood Shasti Club.
Five of the nine food materials are here too: Meat from every animal, and Green, Violet, Blue and Red Leaves scattered across the map. Meat does triple duty, cooking into Basic Healing, healing a tamed beast and making bait, and Red Leaf is what revives a beast as well as feeding the Ultimate Boost.
Eleven skins and feathers finish the row. Goat, Deer, Wolf, Brown Bear, Sabretooth Tiger, Cave Lion, Tall Elk, Mammoth and Bitefish skins are all listed as all around Oros, Tapir Skin adds the condition that the animal is out at night, and Feathers come from any bird. Goat, Deer, Wolf, Brown Bear and Mammoth are the ones that go into hut builds; the rest only upgrade gear.
A named edge: 20 that ask for a direction
| Direction | Village materials | Food | Skins |
|---|---|---|---|
| West | Alder Wood, Slate, Reeds (near water) | none | Dhole, Boar; Badger between the western and southern forests; Jaguar in the west and south |
| North | North Cedar, North Black Rock, North Clay (near water) | North Yellow Leaf | Cave Bear, Yak, Leopard |
| South | South Maple, South Stone, South Rock Dust (near water) | South Purple Leaf | Woolly Rhino, Monkey |
The village materials are the reason this row exists. Every hut on the village page is built from a three-material set plus a skin, and each set belongs to one edge: wood, stone and a wet-ground material, with a near-water note on the third of each trio. The west set builds the first six huts at level 1. The north and south sets take over for the level-2 builds of Wogah, Karoosh and Jayma and for every stage of Dah and Roshani, which is what turns the far ends of the map from scenery into a shopping list. Two skins carry their own directions and their own products: Yak Skin from the north upgrades the Guts Bag, and Woolly Rhino Skin from the south upgrades the Spear Belt.
Only two leaves are directional. South Purple Leaf is the sole ingredient that pulls Fireproof south, and North Yellow Leaf, which goes into the berserk shard and berserk bomb, is the common plant that the Antidote's rare leaf hides inside.
A rare roll: 16 hidden inside the common version
Nothing in this row has a location of its own. Four village materials appear rarely while you gather their common twin: Rare Reeds, Rare North Cedar, Rare South Maple and Rare South Stone, all of which upgrade weapons and items rather than build huts, apart from Rare South Maple, which does both. Two plants roll the same way: Rare Plant Root is a small chance from any plant, and Rare North Yellow Leaf is a small chance from a North Yellow Leaf once Into Udam Land is done. The Gathering tree has two skills aimed squarely at this row, Find Rare Resources for wood, stone and reeds and Find Rare Plants for the leaves, at 2 points each.
The other ten are skins, each found rarely among the ordinary animals of its kind, and the pages name no skill that shortens those odds. What they are for splits cleanly. Seven are named in hut builds on the village page: Rare Black Lion for Tensay's level 2, Rare White Deer for Jayma's, Rare Stripe Wolf for Karoosh's, Rare Black Dhole for Dah's level 1, Rare Two Horn Rhino for Dah's level 2, Rare Red Elk for Roshani's level 1 and Rare Red Bitefish for Roshani's level 2. The remaining three only upgrade gear: Rare White Wolf and Rare Black Jaguar for items in general, and Rare White Yak for the Winter Clothing Karoosh hands over.
| Rare skin | Found among | What it builds or upgrades |
|---|---|---|
| Rare White Deer | Other deer | Huts (Jayma's Hut level 2 asks for two) |
| Rare White Wolf | White wolves | Items |
| Rare Stripe Wolf | Stripe wolves | Huts (Karoosh's Hut level 2) |
| Rare Black Dhole | Dholes | Huts and items (Dah's Hut level 1) |
| Rare Black Lion | Black lions | Huts (Tensay's Hut level 2) |
| Rare Red Elk | Red elk | Huts (Roshani's Hut level 1 asks for two) |
| Rare White Yak | White yaks | Winter Clothing |
| Rare Black Jaguar | Black jaguars | Items |
| Rare Two Horn Rhino | Woolly rhinos | Huts (Dah's Hut level 2) |
| Rare Red Bitefish | Bitefish | Huts (Roshani's Hut level 2 asks for two) |
Behind a mission: two, and one that is both
Blood of Oros is a material as well as a mission. Finish the mission and the substance then turns up rarely while you collect North Black Rock, so it is a northern rare roll with a story gate in front of it; it upgrades weapons and items. Rare Feathers open after Wogah's Claw and then drop from any bird, and both kinds of feather go into the Quiver. Rare North Yellow Leaf, covered above, completes the set: Into Udam Land first, then the roll. Three gates, and all three are also things the village and skills pages use elsewhere, since Blood of Oros is how Wogah himself reaches the village and Into Udam Land is what unlocks the Antidote recipe at Sayla.
Reading the nine recipes by their leaf
| Recipe | Unlock | Ingredients | HP bars | Extra effect | The trip |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Primitive Heal | Buy Primitive Heal I and II | None | 1 or 2 | None | None |
| Basic Healing | From the start | 1 Meat | 2 | None | Any animal |
| Rugged Healing | Complete Deep Wounds | 1 Meat, 1 Green Leaf | 3 | None | Anywhere |
| Full Health | Sayla's Hut level 2 | 1 Meat, 2 Green Leaf | 6 | None | Anywhere |
| Speed Boost | Build Sayla's Hut | 2 Meat, 1 Blue Leaf | 2 | Faster sprint and swim | Anywhere |
| Scent Camouflage | Build Sayla's Hut | 2 Meat, 1 Violet Leaf | 2 | Animals find you harder to hear | Anywhere |
| Fireproof | Build Sayla's Hut | 2 Meat, 1 South Purple Leaf | 2 | Less fire damage | The southern edge |
| Antidote | Finish Into Udam Land, then talk to Sayla | 1 Meat, 1 Rare North Yellow Leaf | 2 | Clears poison | The northern edge, then a roll |
| Ultimate Boost | Sayla's Hut level 2 | 4 Meat, 2 Red Leaf, 4 Rare Plant Root | 6 | Speed Boost, Scent Camouflage and Fireproof together | Four rare rolls |
Five of the nine recipes are cooked from meat and leaves that grow everywhere, and one needs nothing at all. That leaves three that carry a trip. Fireproof is the only recipe that sends you south, Antidote the only one that sends you north, and Ultimate Boost the only one that leans on luck, asking for four Rare Plant Roots at a time. Its payoff is the largest on the page, six bars plus the three side effects in one meal, which is why the food page pairs it with Full Health as the reward for taking Sayla's Hut to level 2.
The unlocks follow Sayla. The three side-effect recipes arrive when her hut is first built, the two six-bar recipes when it is upgraded, and Rugged Healing and the Antidote come from missions rather than the hut. Her level-1 build is four Alder Wood, three Slate, two Reeds and two Deer Skins, which is three western materials and a skin from anywhere, so the whole first tier of cooking costs one trip west. Level 2 is 35 Alder Wood, 20 Slate, 20 Reeds, four Mammoth Skins and a village of 40 people.
Two numbers frame how much healing is worth. You start with two health bars and the skills page adds one bar per Extra Health rank, four ranks, to a ceiling of six, which is exactly what Full Health and Ultimate Boost restore. And the Crafting tree's Food Boosts I, II and III stretch every recipe's side effect from 60 seconds to 90, 120 and 150.
Carrying it home
The resources page makes two practical points that no table captures. You cannot carry unlimited materials, so the bags have to be upgraded, and the upgrades are themselves paid in skins: Yak Skin for the Guts Bag, Woolly Rhino Skin for the Spear Belt, Feathers and Rare Feathers for the Quiver. Wogah's level-1 hut is where the Pack, the Hunter Belt and the Club, Spear and Throwing Shard Belts first appear, and his level 2 adds the Bomb Belt. The page also notes that the Reward Stash drops random materials as you play, with free items at Sayla's level 1 and rare items at her level 2.
The second point is Hunter Vision, which the page tells you to keep on while gathering. The skills page stacks four cheap Gathering skills on top of it: Show Resources and Show Plants put materials on the mini-map for a point each, and Find Resources I and II raise the yield of every pickup. Skinning I adds two Meat to every carcass and Skinning II adds two Animal Fat and two Animal Hide, which between them cover the everywhere row's most-used materials. If you are heading into the Lost Caves, the caves page asks for one item from this guide above all others: a stock of Antidote for the rot fumes.
FAQ
Where do you find North Cedar in Far Cry Primal?
At the northern edge of Oros, alongside North Black Rock and North Clay. The village page asks for 100 of it over four builds, the second levels of Wogah's and Karoosh's huts and both levels of Dah's, so plan more than one trip.
How do you unlock the Antidote recipe?
Finish Into Udam Land and then talk to Sayla. Each dose is one Meat and one Rare North Yellow Leaf, which is a small chance from the North Yellow Leaves that grow at the northern edge once that mission is done.
How do you get rare animal skins?
By luck. Every rare skin on the resources page is listed as rarely found among the ordinary animals of its kind, and unlike rare wood, stone and plants, no skill on the skills page improves the odds.
Which recipe heals the most?
Full Health and Ultimate Boost both restore six bars, the maximum health you can have. Full Health costs one Meat and two Green Leaves; Ultimate Boost costs four Meat, two Red Leaves and four Rare Plant Roots and adds the Speed Boost, Scent Camouflage and Fireproof effects on top.
