Conan Exiles Oil: Every Fluid Press Ratio And The Fastest Supply

Oil is the material players run out of at the worst possible moment, usually with an epic armor recipe open and five of the things missing. It has no node and no animal that reliably carries it. It is squeezed, in a fluid press, out of whatever organic matter you were willing to carry home, and the rate you get depends entirely on which organic matter that was.

The press and its exchange rates

Build a fluid press, drop the input in, and read the table below before you decide what to farm. All four rows produce the same single unit of oil, which is the point: the quality of the fish is the whole difference.

What you pressAmount for one oilWorth it when
Exotic fish1Always, if you have them. Nothing else comes close.
Savory fish5The middle case, and the usual yield from good traps.
Unappetizing fish10Early on, when traps catch little else.
Seeds, any kind15You have a farm running and the seeds are spare.

Fish come from fish traps, which you place in the river and leave alone. That is the real shape of oil production: it is passive. A row of traps along the water near your base fills itself while you are away doing something else, and a press turns the contents into oil whenever you come back. Building the traps early, long before you need the oil, is the single biggest thing you can do about the level 60 shortage.

Rocknoses are the exception to the no-animal rule. Harvest one and it can give oil directly, which makes the walking rock piles in the desert a little more welcome than they look.

The alchemist shortcut

There is a way around the fish entirely. Put an alchemist thrall of the third tier or a named one on the bench and a recipe appears that presses five bark and one ichor into five oil at a stroke. Bark you already have too much of, because the tannery eats it. Ichor comes off spiders, scorpions and rocknoses. If your oil problem is chronic, the answer is usually a better alchemist rather than more traps, and our named thralls page lists the places a tier four one turns up.

Where it all goes

  • Fuel for the furnace and the blacksmith's bench, burning hotter than wood
  • Five per unit of hardened leather, which is the demand that empties your chest
  • Recipes including insulated wood, fire arrows and warpaints

Oil is one of the few materials that is both a fuel and an ingredient, so it is worth keeping two piles in your head: the one you are allowed to burn and the one earmarked for armor. The resources guide sets it beside the rest of the chain.
