Conan Exiles Brimstone Locations And How To Survive Shattered Springs

Brimstone is the material that gates steel, which makes it the material that gates most of your progress. It is also concentrated in one of the least hospitable squares on the map, and the game expects you to solve the air before it lets you solve the mining. That combination is why so many characters stall at the iron tier and stay there.

Shattered Springs, and the mask problem

The single richest source is Shattered Springs, in the B8 square, where sulphur pillars stand in the open and give up brimstone by the stack. It is also under a permanent layer of toxic fog that will take you apart while you swing.

The answer is a breathing mask. A sandstorm breathing mask or a setite mask will hold the debuff off long enough to work, and going in without one is simply a wasted trip. Two further notes on the place. The northern side of the springs carries a world boss, and you do not need to go anywhere near it, because the southern side alone will fill your bags. And the rocknoses that wander the area come in brimstone and crystal varieties, so killing one and harvesting it is a free top up on the way past.

An obelisk stands south of Shattered Springs, which turns this from an expedition into a routine run once you have it unlocked. Our obelisk locations page covers the ten of them and the Map Room recipe that makes them work.

The quieter nodes

If the fog is not an option yet, brimstone exists elsewhere in smaller amounts and without the hazard.

  • Gallaman's Tomb and Sinner's Refuge, both modest but safe
  • Executioner's Entrance, worth a detour if you are passing
  • Buccaneer Bay, where the nodes are underwater and your breath is the limit rather than the fog
  • The eastern jungle, with most of its nodes lying east of The Sunken City

Dragons and rocknoses both drop it when harvested, which is the passive trickle that keeps you going between proper runs.

What brimstone is for

Its first job is steelfire. Brimstone and tar go into a firebowl cauldron with fuel and come out as steelfire, and steelfire is what turns five iron bars into steel. Everything downstream of steel, which is to say most of the good gear, traces back through this one material. Our iron page covers that side of the exchange.

It has two further jobs at the top end. One brimstone goes into every star metal bar, alongside black ice, as our star metal page sets out. And it is among the ingredients the Tome of Kurak asks for when you upgrade it, so a sorcerer's brimstone habit is on top of a smith's. That path is covered in our sorcery guide, and the resources guide puts the whole chain in order.
