Conan Exiles Black Ice: Where It Is And The Lorestone You Need
Black ice is the north's material, and the north charges admission. Everything about collecting it assumes you have already solved the cold, because the deposits sit high on the mountains of the Frozen North among creatures that are happy to see you. What you get in return is an ingredient in both of the bars that sit above steel, plus a building set and a weapon line of its own.
Where the nodes are
The stretch between the obelisk on the Frozen Slopes and the Temple of Frost is the run most players settle on. Nodes line the ground along the way, more of them wait inside the temple itself, and the obelisk at one end turns the whole thing into a short trip rather than a hike. If you want one spot rather than a route, the ground just outside the Temple of Frost is the best of them, because black ice, ordinary ice and stone all stand within a few paces of each other.
Beyond that, the bulk of the Exiled Lands supply is on the western side of the Frozen North, on top of the mountains. The Isle of Siptah has its own deposits, and our Isle of Siptah base locations page notes black ice within reach of the Cliffside site, which is one reason that spot is recommended at all.
Keep your eyes up while you mine. Frost giants live here, Hrungnir of the Frost and the frost giant smith among them, and they do not need to catch you in the open to ruin the run. Cold resistant gear is not optional this far north, as our armor guide covers in more detail.
The lorestone behind the throne
Carrying black ice home is not the same as being able to use it. Black ice gear sits behind Frost Smithing, and Frost Smithing is not bought with knowledge points. You learn it by touching the lorestone behind Hrungnir of the Frost's throne, inside the Temple of Frost itself, which means the trip that fills your bags is also the trip that unlocks the recipes.
Even then, the crafting happens in a particular place: the Frost Temple Smithy in the Forge of Ymir, rather than at a bench you set down at home. Plan the visit as one long errand rather than three short ones.
What it turns into
- Hardened steel bars, one black ice per bar alongside a steel bar. This is where most of your supply goes.
- Star metal bars, which want one black ice and one brimstone per batch.
- Black ice weapons and building pieces, the reason for the lorestone trip in the first place.
Both of the bars above steel route through this one material, so a black ice run is rarely wasted even when you came north for something else. The resources guide shows where it sits in the chain, and our obelisk locations page will shorten the journey.
