The Sims 4 Doctor Career: Diagnosis Minigame And How To Get Promoted
The Doctor career is one of the active ones, which means you follow your Sim through the hospital doors and play the shift rather than watching a progress bar tick over. That is the whole appeal and the whole difficulty: promotions here are earned by correctly working out what is wrong with the patients in front of you, so a bad shift is a bad diagnosis rather than a bad mood.
Every Rank And What It Pays
| Level | Job title | Daily pay |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Medical Intern | §144 |
| 2 | Orderly | §184 |
| 3 | Medical Assistant | §280 |
| 4 | Medical Technologist | §392 |
| 5 | Assistant Nurse | §680 |
| 6 | R.N. | §950 |
| 7 | Doctor, General Practitioner | §1,350 |
| 8 | Medical Specialist | §1,950 |
| 9 | Surgeon | §2,450 |
| 10 | Chief of Staff | §2,800 |
There is no branch here. Every doctor walks the same ten rungs from Medical Intern to Chief of Staff, which makes this one of the simpler careers to plan around even though it is one of the harder ones to play. The first shift runs from 7am to 3pm at §18 an hour, with Wednesdays and Thursdays off, and the hours shift as you climb.
Promotions Are Decided At Work, Not At Home
Most careers in the game reward a Sim who turned up in a good mood with the right skills. This one grades the shift. Your Sim needs at least two of the three segments on the work performance meter filled to move up, and those segments come from doing the job properly: greeting and treating patients, running the tests the symptoms call for, and finally naming the illness correctly.
The diagnosis itself is the part that trips people up. Thirteen symptoms turn up across eight illnesses and several of them overlap, so a stomachache alone does not tell you whether you are looking at Burning Belly or an Itchy Blomb, and a fever points at two conditions rather than one. Examine every patient more than once, note what the scans add, and only commit to a diagnosis when the symptoms line up with a single illness. A wrong guess costs performance and the shift is short.
What To Level Before You Apply
Three things make the shift easier. Focused is the emotion to arrive in, because it steadies the analysis a diagnosis depends on. The Genius trait helps a Sim hold on to which treatment matched which illness last time. Handiness is the practical one, since a doctor who can upgrade the hospital's equipment gets better results out of it than one who cannot.
The later ranks add duties rather than replacing them. From level 8 your Sim is delivering babies as well as diagnosing, and house calls and pregnancy checks turn up throughout. None of that changes how promotion works; it just gives the performance meter more ways to move.
Skipping The Ladder
If you want the white coat without the shifts, the console does it in one line. Turn cheats on, then enter careers.promote Doctor once per rank, which our career cheats guide lists alongside every other job's code word and the part-time equivalents. It is one promotion per command, so ten of them takes you from intern to Chief of Staff.
The rewards this career hands out along the way can also be unlocked without working for them, which our career items guide covers with the build mode code that makes every career's reward objects purchasable at once.
Doctor Career Questions
How much does a doctor earn in The Sims 4?
§144 a day as a Medical Intern and §2,800 a day as Chief of Staff. That top figure is good but not extraordinary; most of the jobs on our highest paying jobs list beat it, and the Doctor career is not on that list at all.
Why is my Sim not getting promoted as a doctor?
Almost always the diagnoses. Two of the three performance segments have to be filled, and naming the wrong illness undoes the work of an otherwise good shift. Examine repeatedly before you commit, and treat rather than guess.
Does a university degree help?
Our own guide says that in a save with Discover University the way into medicine runs through a biology degree, so if that pack is installed it is worth checking the route in before applying. The rest of this folder's career reading, from the careers guide to the Sims 4 hub, treats the degree as optional.
