Conan Exiles Horse Locations: Where Foals Spawn And How To Raise One
A horse is the single biggest quality of life change available in the Exiled Lands, because this map's real enemy is distance. The ten obelisks solve the long hops once you have them; a mount solves everything in between. What surprises people is that you do not find horses. You find foals, standing in the grass, and you carry one home under your arm.
The squares where foals stand
Foals spawn out in the open, in green country near water, which narrows the search a great deal on a map that is mostly desert and snow. Four areas are reliable.
- The river island around K6, which is the friendliest option for a low level character and the one most players use for their first.
- South and west of Pitfall Pass, spread across the K5 and K6 squares.
- Around the Northern Aqueduct in G9, both northeast and southeast of it. Our leveling guide already sends you to this square for the gazelle hunting at the oasis, so the two errands combine.
- West of the Circle of Swords, in the B10 and C10 squares.
Grass near a river or a lake is the pattern behind all four, so if none of those squares is producing, look for the next piece of green country rather than wandering. The locations guide covers how the rest of the map is laid out.
Collecting one is not a fight
Foals do not resist. There is no truncheon, no bindings and no wheel involved, which makes it one of the few captures in Conan Exiles that costs you nothing but the walk. Approach and pick the animal up, and it goes into your inventory like any other item.
The gate is a feat rather than a fight. Stablemaster becomes available at level 15, and without it you cannot do anything useful with a foal once you have one, so take it before you make the trip rather than after.
It has to be a stable
This is where most first attempts go wrong. An animal pen raises the rest of the game's pets, and it will not raise a horse. Foals go in a stable, which is its own structure and comes with the Stablemaster feat, built from fifteen brick, ten shaped wood and ten twine.
Once the foal is inside, it needs feeding to finish growing, and it is not fussy: plant fiber or berries will do the job. Then it is a horse, and it comes out of the stable as one.
You still cannot ride it
A grown horse without a saddle is a pet that follows you. Riding wants the Novice Saddle Maker feat, which arrives around level 20, so the full sequence is Stablemaster at 15, a foal, a stable, food, and then a saddle a few levels later. Budget the knowledge points for both feats in advance if a mount is the goal, because spending them elsewhere and then finding your horse unrideable is a frustrating way to learn the order.
With a mount under you, the map opens up in a way that makes the resource runs practical rather than punishing. Where to point it is covered in the resources guide, and everything else in the Conan Exiles guide.
