Dragon Age 2 Side Quests Guide

Dragon Age 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed roleplaying game by Bioware marks its return with visually stunning graphics, enhanced gameplay, and more engaging story. Like every other RPG under Bioware’s banner, Dragon Age 2 is also filled with a plethora of side quests that spin amazing tales of the world. Our guide will focus on these side quests and give you an idea of what you can expect from the game.

Dragon Age 2 Side Quests Guide

There are various side quests that are offered by different characters in Dragon Age 2. Each of these Side Quests is spread through the three Acts in the game.

Act I

Changing One’s Nature

When you enter Marethari’s clan’s camp at Sundermount, you will see Clara arguing with Dalish. If Hawke tends to inquire more, they will know that Clara is actually in the search for a cure for the werewolves of Ferelden. The werewolves find it rather difficult to control their bestial nature.

The Lady of the Forest is also starting to become wild. She will ask Hawke to search for the ingredients for a potion with may cure or soothe the beasts.

You will be rewarded with four hundred (400) experience points and Trepanner’s Gift.

The Conspirators

This side quest will be available in from Sergeant Joanna in the day time. You will find her south of The Hanged Man. She will offer a bounty for four nobles who’ve left Ferelden.

You will have to find and kill four Fereldan noble conspirators along with their bodyguard lackeys. Their locations will be:

  • South-westwards of Hightown in the day time
  • The Blooming Rose
  • South-westwards of the Docks during the night time, closer to the Disused Passage.
  • At the end of the western path from the Dalish Camp, in Sundermount.

You will be rewarded with four hundred (400) experience points for a Noble.

Dark Epiphany

The player will acquire this side quest if they have imported a save from Dragon Age: Origins that has Warden’s Keep completed.

After you’ve defeated the enemies, the quest will begin once you loot the body, which will contain Grey Warden Documents, Silverite-Threaded Gloves, and Avernus’s Experimental Draught.

Once you’ve completed the quest, Hawke will get a letter of thanks and some gold.

You will receive five hundred (500) experience points from the battles, and four hundred experience points from the letter that will be sent by Grey Wardens, and two gold.

Last of His Line

This quest will be acquirable if you’ve imported a save from Dragon Age: Origins in which Prince Bhelen was awarded the throne of Orzammar, or if you load the pre-made history Martyr, in which there’s a similar condition.

You can find Lord Renvil Harrowmont in the Docts district of Kirwall, during the day.

Once you get to Lord Renvil Harrowmont, you will find him and his guards attacked by Carta Thugs and a Carta Assassin. Once you defeat the Carta Thugs and Assassins, Harrowmont will ask you to help him clear the area of Carta members that are trying to assassinate him. Here you will have the option to help him out or turn on him when you come across the first set of Carta criminals.

If you decide to help Harrowmont, he will end up escaping the area to Rivain, and you will get a letter from him in Act II.

If you decide to go against Harrowmont and side with the Carta to eliminate Harrowmont, then all of the House Harrowmont dies along side him.

You will receive a total of eight-fifty (850) experience points, six gold (5 from the letter) and Handcrafted Dwarven Cuffs (from the letter) if you decide to assist Harrowmont, while you will get get four-fifty (450) experience points and three gold for helping the Carta.

Miracle Makers

This quest will appear if you have imported a save from Dragon Age: Origins, in which the quest The Urn of Sacred Ashes is completed, without defiling the ashes, while not sending Brother Genitivi home to Denerim, and allowed him to return with an expedition.

Or you chose The Martyr pre-built history at the start of the game.

After you enter Lowtown, you will come across a con man standing near the Weaponsmithy, who’s surrounded by a crowd. The guy will claim to sell the Sacred Ashes of Andraste, retrieved from Mount Daverus.

You will have to talk to Sergeant Melindra after she breaks the crowd up.

You will get three-fifty (350) experience points, one gold and Stalker’s Boar Hides from the swindler’s body upon the completion of this side quest.

Night Lies

The Guardsman Pretenders will be trying to take over Hightown at night. You will have to kill the majority of them to reveal the location of their hideout and their leader.

Go to The Barracks, defeat the gang and its leader Captain Qerth. Make sure that you loot the chest that is placed at the top of the stairs. Afterwards, head to The Hanged Man at night and speak to A Friend for the reward.

Hawke will be able to walk around Hightown at night, without the fear of being ambushed by thugs.

You will receive Palvo’s Cocksure Cleaver and Formari Work Boots, both of which will be dropped by Captain Qerth. You will also receive Random Loot, two gold, and five hundred (500) experience points.

Reining It In

The Sharps Highwaymen are striving to take over Lowtown at Night time, you will have to kill the majority of them to reveal the location of their hideout and their leader.

Go to Howel, which will be at the eastern area of Lowtown at night. Defeat the gang and its leader Ignacio Strand. Make sure that you loot the chest in the room on the right.

Once you’re done, head to The Hanged Man and speak to A Friend to get the reward.

After the completion of this quest, you will be able to walk around Lowtown at night without the fear of being ambushed by thugs.

From this side quest, you will get random loot, The Runt’s Spiker, Bloody Butcher’s Glovers, and Lowtown Stompers, all of which will be dropped by Ignacio Strand, two gold and five hundred (500) experience points.

Terror on the Coast

This side quest can be acquired with a Dragon Age: Origins imported game, that’s only if the Warden chose to let Sophia Dryden live during the Warden’s Keep DLC.

This quest will be triggered when Hawke walks along the northern path of the Wounded Coast from the northeastern end and comes across a man that’s running away from giant spiders.

You will have to fight your way through the spiders and a few Bandits and Bandit Archers at campsite located nearby. You will also fight a Strange Hunter and four mabari war hounds. While there may be an apostate as well if they didn’t join the bandits and the spiders when you were fighting them at the campsite.

The Mabari will be vulnerable to cold spells, and the spiders will be vulnerable to electricity.

Afterwards, you will have to follow the path to find Sophia Dryden’s camp. You will have to fight Sophia who had charmed the local apostates and the giant spiders into following her.

Once you’ve killed Sophia, you will get over four hundred (400) experience points and the Robe of Hidden Pockets from Sophia’s Corpse, along with six to eight gold.

Who Needs Rescuing?

This side quest will start after you’ve read a letter on the Writing Desk in the Hawke Estate in Act III. The letter will be sent by Feynriel only if Hawke helped him during Night Terrors quest in Act II and was not made Tranquil.

After you’ve accepted the letter, you will have to go to the Wounded Coast. Take the first path on the north-eastern side of the map. From there, head north and then turn rightwards. This is where you will find Orlanna, who’s a kidnapped woman.

After you’re done talking to her, bandits will attack which will make Orlanna return to Kirkwall and wait for Feynriel.

You will get Hack as loot from the bandit leader alongside random loot from the bandits.

Act II

Bounty Hunter

This side quest will be available if Grace and the rest of the apostates are sent to the Circle during the Act I quest Act of Mercy.

You will have to acquire the quest through the Chanter’s Board.

You will need to put down all the apostate mages that the templars have announced a bounty on.

Jack the Black will be found in the southern side of Darktown. He will summon a pride abomination after being defeated.

Innley of Starkhaven will be located at the top of Sundermount. You will get One-Cut after looting his corpse.

Heborah de Soliere will be located at the western Wouded Coast. Make sure that you kill him quickly or he will go invisible and start running eastwards. At this point, you will have to look at your map, on which you will see Heborah de Soliere as a yellow speck.

You will be rewarded with one thousand (1,000) experience points upon the completion of this side quest.

A Debt in the Family

This quest will be available if Hawke tells the Knight-Caption Cullen that Keran should be expelled from the Templars at the very end of the quest Enemies Among Us.

You will acquire the side quest at the beginning of Act II. Margitte who’s located in the Gallows Courtyard, will mention that Keran’s family has fallen into debt.

Despite the fact that Margitte promises a reward, Hawke will not receive anything from her.

You will get three-fifty (350) experience points from the fight, and seven-fifty experience points upon completing the quest.

You will also acquire Chum-Cutter from Senestra’s corpse.

Waxler’s Hat

At night time in the Docks, you will be allowed to enter the Disused Passage. Here, you will find an item called Waxler’s Hat.

Loot this item and head to The Hanged Man at night and hand over the hat to Waxler.

You will receive one gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points.

The One True Pantaloons

You will get this quest by looting the Fine Dwarven Trousers from a dwarf mercenary, when you’re doing the Dissent quest.

Return the pantaloons to Impeccable Bulf, who’s a dwarf in the Hightown.

You will receive one gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points.

“South-Song” Gerralt’s Corpse

Explore through the Abandoned Thaig at Sundermount. Here, you will find “South-Song” Gerralt’s corpse.

Go back to Lowtown’s Restidential District and give the item to “East-Wise” Gerralt.

You will receive one gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points.

Swatch of the Jackyard

Loot Fell Orden during Raiders on the Cliffs to get the Swatch of the Jackyard.

Go to the Docks and interact with the Ship Spotter who’s on the center dock.

You will receive one gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points.

The Eyes of Azure Jamos

After you exit the cave at Sundermount, kill the ‘Crazed Loner’ Mage that attacks Hawke. Loot his body to get the Eyes of Azure Jamos. Head to Gallows Courtyard and give the gems to him for a reward.

You will receive one gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points.

Elves at Large

This quest will be available if Feynriel was sent to the Circle during the quest Wayward Son of Act I.

You will get the quest through the Chanter’s Board.

The rewards of completing this quest will be seven-fifty experience (750) points from the completion and three-eighty (380) experience points from the fight.

You will also get one gold and Shine, which is a weapon you’ll get from looting the mercenary captain. That’s if Hawke sides with the elves, if he sides with the mercenaries, he would get two gold.

The Fixer

This side quest will be available if Hawke adivses Viscount to burn the Qunari bodies during the quest Offered and Lost.

The side quest will be acquired by reading a letter at the Writing Desk in the Hawke Estate.

You will receive fifteen hundred experience points (1500) after completing the side quest, but no money.

Hometown Breed

The Dog Lords will try to take over Lowtown at night, if you will the majority of them, you will be able to know the location so their hideout and their leader.

Hawke will be able to walk around Lowtown at night time without the chance of being ambushed by any thugs.

You will receive random loot, two gold and five hundred (500) experience.

How to Frame a Templar

This side quest will only be available if Hawke saves Keran’s position with the templars during the quest Enemies Among Us.

This quest will be required by reading Mistress Selby’s board in the Docks area of Kirkwall.

You will receive one gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points.

Ladies’ Lights Out

Hawke and his party with be ambushed by the Invisible Sister during the nigh time at Hightown. Once you’ve defeated the attackers, search the leader’s body for the map which marks the location of the Suspicious House on the edge of the street that leads to the Red Light district.

Afterward, you will have to return to The Hanged Man during the night time and talk to A Friend for the reward.

Hawke will be able to walk around Hightown at night time without the chance of being ambushed by the Invisible Sisters.

The completion of this side quest will reward you with two gold and five hundred (500) experience points.

The Lost Patrol

This side quest will be first given by the Qunari who suspects Hawke of killing a patrol that has gone missing.

Speak to the Qunari who’s standing near the Qunari Compound entrance. You can search for the patrol even if the Qunari did not ask you to.

Go to the Wounded Coast and you will come across a place where the Qunari bodies will be lying, a group of shades and an abomination will attack the party. You will have to defeat them and then report back to the Qunari at the docks to complete this side quest.

You  will receive one gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points along with Binky’s Comfort.

The Lowdown

The Undercuts are striving to possess control over the Docks at night. Killing most of the Undercuts will show the the location of their hideout and their leader.

You will have to enter the Run Down Alley, fight and defeat the Undercut gang and its leader named “Kanky” Hammertoe. Return to The Hanged Man at night to talk to A Friend for the reward.

Once completed, Hawke will be able to roam around the Docks at night without the fear of being ambushed by thugs.

You will receive random loot from the fights, two gold, and five hundred (500) experience points upon quest completion.

The Midnight Meeting

This side quest will only be available if Ser Karras died during the Act I quest, Act of Mercy.

After the quest Blackpowder Courtesy, Hawke will receive a letter at the Writing Desk in his Estate. The letter will request a midnight meeting.

After accepting the quest, you will have to go to the Merchants Guild in Hightown at night time. Here, you will interact with a Templar who was investigating the death of one Ser Karras. Choosing an option from the dialogue will result in the Templars attacking your party.

Upon completing the quest, you will get one gold, and a total of one thousand and twenty (1120) experience points, along with some random loot.

You will also get two unique items, named Brink-Boaster, and The Tiny Cut.

Sketchy on the Details

Head to Hightown during the day time and go to Chantry. Once you’re there, go to the Chanter’s Board and accept the request that’s posted on it.

You will have to put down various groups of assassins from Kirkwall, and then report to Sketch who’s at the Docks at night to inform him that they’re all killed.

Here are the locations of the assassins:

  • Hightown at Night – Denerim Averngers in Hightown Square on the stairs that lead to Viscount’s Keep.
  • Lowtown at Day – Antivan Assassins will be at the entrance to the Alienage
  • Darktown – Carta Loyalists in the Abandoned Mining Tunnels
  • Gallows Coutyard – The Qunari Death Squad, located eastwards of Solivitus’ shop
  • The Hanged Man at Night – Rivaini Legendary Beards upstairs

You will receive random loot, Sketch’s Resplit-Shaft and a hundred (100) experience points for each group that you kill. Upon completion of the quest, you will receive seven-fifty (750) experience points.

The Underground Railroad

This will only be available if the apostates were allowed to escape during Act of Mercy.

The side quest will be received by reading a letter from Terrie at the Hawke Estate.

You will have to talk to Mistress Selby, whom you will find standing near the Shady Merchant at the Docks.

Upon completion, you will activate two other side quests.

Act III Side Quests

The Awiergan Scrolls: First Aspect

You will acquire this after finding a scroll in the Wounded Coast. The scroll will be on the ground near the corpse, which will be located southwards of the entrance to the area, and to the end of the first dead end path.

You will have to kill a Boss-ranked Arcane Horror that’s named Medan.

Kill Medan by charging the horror in order to keep forcing it to use its localized Area of Effect instead of its ranged Entropic Cloud. For either of the two AoE’s, a Rune of Spirit Warding will nullify most of the damage.

Once you kill Medan, your journal will be updated while stating that you’re done with the quest.

You will get the Girdle of the Elders, which is a belt dropped by Medan once you put it down.

The Awiergan Scrolls: Pride Unbound

You will acquire this quest after you’ve completed the other Awiergan Scrolls side quests.

In order to get this quest, you will have to find one of the Awiergan Scrolls which will be either on the Wounded Coast or in the Dalish camp and its hidden lair.

To get into the lair you will have to find all of the three Awiergan Scroll.

To get to the lair quickly, travel to Anders’s Clinic. After you enter the lair, you will immediately trigger a cutscene in which you will encounter Hybris, a Pride Demon.

Hybris will continually summon several Shades and Rage Demons during your battle with him.

Hybris will drop Glandivalis, which is a longsword.

You will also unlock the achievement Demon Slayer.

The Awiergan Scrolls: Second Aspect

You will receive this quest after you find a scroll in Sundermount. It will be located at the back of one of the walls that are located near Sundermount Passage’s entrance.

After you get the quest, your journal will tell you about a new hidden lair. You will have to continue through the passage towards the Mountain Graveyard.

Once you get past the graveyard, you will reach the hidden lair where you will have to face Bysmor, who’s undead, Beacon and Gifre, who’re revenants.

Once you’ve killed all three of them, your journal will tell you that you’re done with the quest.

The Awiergan Scrolls: Pride Unbound will start after the completion of this quest if you haven’t already started it.

You will be rewarded with The Celebrant, which is a greatsword dropped by Beacon. Bysmor will drop a random generic item.

The Awiergan Scrolls: Third Aspect

You will get this quest after you find a scroll in Sundermount. This will be placed along the southern loop before the Dalish Camp.

Once you’ve found the scroll, your journal will inform you about the discovery of a new hidden lair. You will need to go up the path that leads to Sundermount Passage, until you get to the ruins where the second scroll will be located.

Here you will will encounter a Boss-ranked Arcane Horror that will be assisted by a group of Shades.

Once you’ve killed the Arcane Horror, your journal will notify you that you’ve completed the quest.

You will receive Bloom, which is a two-handed axe that will be dropped by the Arcane Horror.

The Awiergan Scrolls: Pride Unbound will start after the completion of this quest if you haven’t already started it.

Beware of Dog

This side quest requires the Black Emporium DLC. After you enter the Hawke Estate at the start of Act II, Bodahn will complain to you about a ruckus from Dog.

Simply check Hawke’s bedroom to start the quest.

Hawke can yell at Dog or play along with it to know about the thief that’s hiding in the wardrobe.

  • If you tell Dog to get a guard, the thief will have to go to the dungeons.
  • If you choose to be aggressive, Dog will kill the thief.
  • If you choose to be diplomatic, Dog will urinate on the thief and this will send the thief away.
  • If you choose to be sarcastic, Dog will chase the thief out of the house after the count of five.

Kind of Want

She’s Followers are striving to take over Lowtown (Night). Killing a majority of those people will get you to know the location of their lair and their leader.

After the completion of the side quest, you will be able to walk around Lowtown without being subject to any ambushes by cultists.

King Alistair

This side quest will be available if the Hero of Ferelden or Martyr pre-built histories are selected in the game.

The quest will be received on a letter, after completing On the Loose quest.

If you finish the dialogue, the quest will be completed and Alistair will have a codex entry.

When Alistair asks you about fixing the city, if you reply with I could be Viscount, you will get +10 Varric.

The Last Holdouts

In order to acquire this quest, you will have to favor Meredith in the dialogue at the beginning of Act III, and you will also have to complete a few quests before this. Go to The Hanged Man at night and a lady there will tell you that some men are waiting for you.

You will have to head to Darktown and to the Hidden Sewer to kill all the Blood Mages in the area, and their Mercenary allies. Once you’re done, head back to your Estate and read the letter from Ser Mettin.

Once you’re done with the quest, you will receive eight hundred and ten experience points from the fight, three hundred and thirty experience from the second fight, and a Templar helmet.

The Lost Swords

This side quest will involve a Qunari Taarbas who has been asked to recover the swords of Qunari that fell during the events of Demands of Qun in Act II.

Talk to the Taarbas in Hightown at day time during the Act III, this won’t be too far from the Hawke Estate.

  • Hightown at Day – Korval’s Blades
  • Lowtown at Day – Weaponsmithy
  • Lowtown at Night – In the rubble at the Foundry District
  • Gallows Courtyard – Weapon Shop
  • Anders’s Clinic – In a crate
  • Docks at Night – In the pile of bones at the Harbormaster’s Officer. Right behind a column, at the right side as Hawke enters
  • Docks at Night – In a Master Locked Chest in the Western Warehouse District
  • De Launchet Mansion in Hightown at Night
  • Wounded Coast – Go through the right fork till you reach the camp at the top of the hill
  • Wounded Coast – In a pile of bones where you battled the Tal-Vashoth in Act I

Upon completion, each sword will give you twelve hundred (1200) experience points if you do not require the money. Else each sword will reward you a hundred (100) experience points.

If it is performed for free, a class-specific weapon named Brassrath-Kata is also rewarded.

A Noble Agenda

You will receive this side quest from Ser Marlein Selbrech in hightown after you side against the Knight-Commander Meredith in the opening dialogue.

You will have to head to Darktown, to the entrance of Hidden Supply Depot and clear out the mercenaries and Templars.

Then you will need to head to Lowtown newar Gamlen’s House and defeat Meredith’s death squad which is led by Ser Mettin.

Once you’re done with the side quest, you will get three gold and twelve hundred (1200) experience points after reading the message at Hawke’s Estate.

You will also get twelve hundred (1200) experience points from Ser Marlein after the fight.

Red Run Street

The Crimson Weavers are striving to take over Hightown at Night time, you will have to kill the majority of them to reveal the location of their hideout and their leader.

Go to the Suspicious House and defeat the gang and its leader Jakeson Hall. Once you’re done, head to The Hanged Man and speak to A Friend to get the reward.

After the completion of this quest, you will be able to walk around Hightown at night without the fear of being ambushed by thugs.

From this side quest, you will get random loot, Top-Chop Brand which will be dropped by Jakeson Hall, three gold and seven-fifty (750) experience points.

Reining It In

The Reining Men are striving to take over Docks at Night time, you will have to kill the majority of them to reveal the location of their hideout and their leader.

Go to Run Down Alley and defeat the gang and its leader Jess Varvel. Once you’re done, head to The Hanged Man and speak to A Friend to get the reward.

After the completion of this quest, you will be able to walk around Docks at night without the fear of being ambushed by thugs.

From this side quest, you will get random loot, Woodsman’s Ire which will be dropped by Jess Varvel, two gold and five hundred (500) experience points
