Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Cold Survival
As mentioned earlier, one of the early four shrines involves players going through an icy waterfall which can result in the player dying multiple times if they aren’t well prepared.
There are numerous other locations in the cold which can cause death just because of the temperature. To counter the effects of cold, the best way is to utilize special food items to build up resistance.
Players can cook these items from their inventory, drag and drop all the ingredients into a cauldron with a burning flame and the food will be done.
All the food items that provide cold resistance and their recipes are listed below:
Spicy Sauteed Peppers: requires Spicy Pepper and grants low-level cold resistance and +1 heart
Spicy Simmered Fruit: requires Apple and Spicy Pepper for low level cold resistance and +1 heart
Spicy Elixir: Bokoblin Horn and Sizzlewing Butterfly are needed for moderate cold resistance
Spicy Fruit and Mushroom Mix: cold resistance, +5 heart after cooking Spicy Pepper and Hylian Shroom
Spicy Pepper Steak: Spicy Pepper, Hylian Mushroom and Raw meat are needed for +5 heart and cold resistance
Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry dish: Hyrule Bass, Raw Meat, and Spicy Pepper grants you low-level cold resistance
Cooked items aren’t the only way to increase resistance. Since the cooked food only provides resistance for a short while, players can also wear armor with cold resistance on it.
Cold protecting armor pieces and cold resistance attire can either be looted from chests throughout the world or bought from vendors. As players progress through the game, they will find numerous armor pieces that offer good protection against the harsh weather.
You receive a cold-resistance clothing, Warm Doublet, which you can pick up in the game:
In order to obtain Warm Doublet you need to follow some steps
Head south of the Temple of Time, there is an area of trees with a wooden hut, with the Old Man outside.
Head into the hut and you are going to find various items to pick up.
You discover a recipe for Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry that requires raw meat, spicy pepper and one other ingredient.
Figure out what the third ingredient is, the Warm Doublet is yours. This ingredient is Hyrule Bass that you can find in the lake next to the Temple of Time.
Cook prompt to get the Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry dish and say ‘I’ve Cooked Something’ to the Old Man and you’ll receive the Warm Doublet.
