Sony is clearly leading the gaming industry with its PS4 which is still doing exceptionally well as compared to its competitors like Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Recently, Sony proudly announced that they have sold 91.6 million units which is a huge number but what was left unnoticed is the number of software sales which represent the PS4 attach rate. With 876 million PS4 games sold, PS4 has an impressive attach rate of 9.6 games per console.
Sony recently revealed at CES 2019 that PS4 has sold 91.6 million units worldwide. They also revealed that they have sold 876 million PS4 games which allows us to calculate the attach rate of the console.
876 million PS4 games sold / 91.6 million consoles sold = 9.56 games per console
Now, this is a very impressive attach rate of PS4 for Sony. Sony has always managed to keep their fans loyal to the console by making them buy exclusives and more. PlayStation 2 which is the best selling console of all time had 6.2 attach rate when it sold 50 million. At the same time, PS4 had a attach rate of 7.51 games per console around 53.4 million console sales worldwide.
By the looks of it, PS4 will easily reach 100 Million sales by the end of 2019. Sony also revealed that they managed to sell 5.6 million units in the last holiday season alone. That’s not all, Marvel’s Spider-Man game sold 9 million copies as of November 25, 2018, after releasing in September.
