How to Unlock New Jobs in Bravely Default 2
Players will gradually unlock more and more new jobs as they progress in Bravely Default 2’s story. Let’s look at when and how you get access to them below.
However, if you’re still wondering what jobs are, they are Bravely Default 2’s way of referring to classes.
Vanguard and White Mage Jobs
These two are the first asterisks and Jobs players get in the game. As soon as you begin your journey, you then tasked with saving a kidnapped girl Gloria who is a princess and also one of the party members.
Gloria is kidnapped by two mercenaries, Dag and Selene. As you progress through the task, you enter the prologue dungeon. You find both of these mercenaries at the end of the dungeon and you fight them. You do have Gloria’s bodyguard with you to help you in this fight.
Once both Dag and Selene are defeated you get hold of their asterisks, White Mage asterisk and Vanguard asterisk, and they can now be used as either primary or secondary Job in the game from now on.
Monk Job
Monk is a strong physical-based Job and one of the best in the game. It can be acquired within the prologue of the game. Once you have defeated Selene and Dag to save Gloria, you can then claim the White Mage asterisk and Vanguard asterisk.
On your way to Savalon, you will encounter the owner of Monk asterisk who asks to fight you. He does this so he can steal the Wind Crystal from Gloria.
The fight begins, and you fight the owner, Horten, to get the Monk asterisk for yourself. Once you have defeated Horten, you will get hold of Monk asterisk and unlock the Monk Job for everyone.
Gambler Job
This job can be unlocked in Chapter 1, making it one of the earliest jobs players can access. Once in Savalon, continue with the main story until you get to Beast Master Anihal. Defeat the beast master and her Asterisks will then belong to the player.
Once you have gotten your hands on Beast Master Anihal’s asterisk, you can then head to the gambling hall in the north of the town and start taking Gambler Jobs.
In the gambling hall, you can talk to Shirley. She can be found next to the table and she has a side mission for the players. This mission introduces the player to the card game, Bind and Divide. Once you defeat Shirley in this game to talk to Orpheus and get his character card.
Similarly, challenge many other NPCs in the gambling hall, until you again face Shirley. Make sure you defeat her in your first try or keep reload a save file to do so to unlock the Shirley the Gambler boss fight. Winning this unlocks the Gambler Job asterisk.
Freelancer
Freelancers are known for their healing abilities. They can easily cure status ailments and replenish MP, and they can do it better than white mages.
These abilities have made them relatively immune to lethal attacks, helping them stand a better ground during battles.
Talking of the freelancer abilities, the best amongst them are Divine Rod, Forage, and Jp Up and JP Up and Up. the Divine Rod ability will quench your thirst for chests by giving you the exact number of chests present in the region.
The Forage ability, on the other hand, will save you a trip to the shop. It’ll make all the items available to you during the battles.
However, the kinds of items available will be dependent on your Level. The higher the Level, the more variety of the available items.
Finally, Jp Up and JP Up and Up will grant you 1.7 JP multiplier once the battle is over.
Moving on to weapon proficiencies, the Freelancer is proficient with grade C sword, dagger, axe, spear, bow, stave, and grade B shield.
Freelancer is one of the starting jobs in Bravely Default 2 carried on from the prequel. Being one of the best subclass on its own, there are no best suited subclasses for this Job as of now.
Black Mage
Black Mages are known for their brutality against the enemies through elemental vulnerabilities. And once they’re equipped with lightweight armor, they are pretty much unstoppable.
Make the best use of their spells against antagonists, and you won’t be disappointed. Their best abilities include Poison and Lunar-Powered.
The poison will help you attack the enemies with poison, whereas Lunar-Powered will help you stand your ground during the battles when the moon is shining.
Black Mage are proficient with grade D sword, grade D spear, grade D bow, grade B dagger, grade E axe, grade S stave, and grade C shield.
This Job will be unlocked automatically, and you can use Bard and Freelancer as its subclasses.
These subclasses kick in when casting spells isn’t the way out and you need a second option. Better to have plenty of options at hand before a fight.
Thief
Thieves are known for their inventory. They can get you items that are not usually available with other jobs. However, their inventory is not the only place where the magic happens. Their God Speed Strike for 95 MP can send the enemies running for their lives.
Thieves are proficient with grade C sword, grade C dagger, grade C axe, grade D spear, grade A bow, grade B stave, and grade E shield.
Beastmaster and Berserker are the best subclasses for this Job. Beastmaster will let you unleash your skills with 20% less MP, whereas Berserker will make your explorations a little more adventurous.
Bard
Bard will strengthen its teammates, and this coupled with healing subclasses Bard happens to be one of the best Job available at the moment.
Step into the Spotlight, Hurts so Bad, and Born Entertainer are one of the best abilities of Bard. They all collectively help Bard be a better team player.
Bards are proficient with grade D sword, grade D spear, grade B dagger, grade B bow, grade D axe, grade B stave, and grade C shield.
You’ll unlock this Job by defeating Orphues the Bard in the first chapter of the game.
Black Mage as a subclass will allow Bards to have offensive abilities which they originally lack.
Beastmaster
This is one of the all-rounder jobs on the list. They can be used for playing offensive, healing, and even in explorations. MP Saver, Mercy Strike, and Raw Power are the abilities that set this Job apart.
Raw Power will unleash the beast in you and help you deal more damage to the enemies.
Mercy Strike on the other hand will help you capture the enemies alive by lowering their HP. Finally, MP saver will help you save 20% MP during the battles.
This Job is proficient with grade D sword, grade A spear, grade D dagger, grade A bow, grade C axe, grade C stave, and grade B shield.
This Job can be unlocked after defeating Anihal in the Underground Reservoir. Defeat the arsenal of beasts around her before fighting her.
Freelancer can serve as one of the best subclasses for this Job given its examining abilities. They could help you capture the enemy with ease.
Berserker
Berserkers are a little slow but they overcome their weakness with powerful attacks.
They can easily put down groups of enemies with their Level Slash, Rampage, Crescent Moon ability. However, it’s still suggested that you use them as a subclass.
Berserkers are proficient with grade B sword, grade D dagger, grade S axe, grade A spear, grade E bow, grade E stave, and grade E shield.
If you’re still determined on using this Job as the main Job then it is suggested that you use Vanguard and Freelancer as its subclasses.
Vanguard will give it some defensive properties and Freelancer will compliment Berserker’s Free-for All ability.

Red Mage
Red Mage is yet another magic specialist. Red Mages are known for their Revenge ability that replenishes BP even after being attacked.
Red Mages are proficient with grade A sword, grade E spear, grade B dagger, grade B bow, grade D axe, grade B stave, and grade D shield.
This Job is unlocked after defeating Roddy if you’re skilled enough to get around his ability of inflicting damage and status ailments simultaneously.
The best subclass for this Job is Black Mage. Both of their spells combined make a lethal combination.
Ranger
Rangers are quite swift in their turns and their abilities come at a cheap price.
Rangers can easily defeat their enemies without scanning their vulnerabilities, given their different slaying abilities. And don’t even get me started on their paralyzing abilities!
Rangers are proficient with grade E sword, grade C spear, grade B dagger, grade S bow, grade C axe, grade D stave, and grade E shield.
To unlock this Job you need to defeat Lily and her companion picto-amrita. Thief happens to be the best subclass you can opt for.
God Speed Flash along with Ranger’s quick moves will make a deadly combo.
Shield Master
This king of defense is a huge asset to the team given its abilities to take one for the team with all of its defensive abilities. Defender of the People can easily dodge three attacks.
Shield Masters are proficient with grade C sword, grade B spear, grade C dagger, grade D bow, grade B axe, grade D stave, and grade S shield.
To unlock this Job, you’ll have to defeat Galahad. He’ll be joined by picto-mona and pictodemons as well.
The Vanguard subclass will help Shield Master go offensive. Freelancer can also be a good subclass for the Job because of its Bodyslam ability.
Pictomancer
Pictomancers work on a simple rule, weakening others and strengthening themselves. Their abilities usually come in handy while fighting powerful bosses. And they don’t just stop after weakening the enemies.
They finish them off as well using their light elemental and shadow elemental attacks.
Pictomancer will be unlocked after you defeat Folie in the second chapter. She has two powerful attacks that you need to look out for, light and dark attacks.
Bard could be a potential subclass for this Job given its similar abilities.
Pictomancers are proficient with grade D sword, grade B spear, grade B dagger, grade C bow, grade E axe, grade B stave, and grade A shield.
Dragoon
Dragoon is a once bouncy job, allowing dragoons to make an escape from a battlefield for the time being before returning with a devastating attack.
Jump also happens to be their one of the best abilities along with Comeback Kid.
They are proficient with grade A sword, grade S spear, grade D dagger, grade C bow, grade C axe, grade E stave, and grade C shield.
Thief and Phantom subclasses compliment this Job quite well.
Thief being a fast class, and Phantom being and offensive class will make Dragoon unstoppable.
Sword Master

Spirit Master
