PlayStation 5 has been in the news for quite a while. Following the launch of Xbox One X and Microsoft announcing Xbox Scarlett, gamers have been looking at Sony to announce the PS5. While we won’t be getting an announcement soon but, PlayStation 5 specs have leaked online.
Previously it was rumored that PlayStation 5 would be using a Ryzen CPU and the latest leak confirms the same. The leak comes from a Reddit user, who claims that PlayStation 5 is a 4K/60 FPS console and “at the same time kinda monster”.
According to the leaked PlayStation 5 specs, the console will feature an 8-core Ryzen CPU. Not only that, the leak reveals that developers already have access to PS5 dev kits which falls in line with a previous report that Square Enix is developing a PS5 title.
A 3D graphics director and 3D character model lead at Square Enix updated his LinkedIn profile revealing that Square Enix is actually working on a AAA PS5 title. Whether it will be an exclusive or multiplatform is unknown.
This somewhat cements the fact that Sony is actually looking to use a Ryzen CPU for PlayStation 5. Earlier this year Sony’s compiler expert Simon Pilgrim hinted that PlayStation 5 will feature a Ryzen CPU.
Pilgrim updated his Linkedin profile and was apparently working on AMD Ryzen “znver1” microarchitecture support within the LLVM compiler stack. The upstream LLVM improvements are exclusive to AMD Zen processor and Sony didn’t have any product in the market with a Ryzen CPU.
We wouldn’t be surprised with PlayStation 5 using AMD Ryzen APU since these chips have been knocking it out of the park when it comes to performance.
However, given that this is just a rumor, take it with a grain of salt. But, it is likely that Sony will use AMD Ryzen for PlayStation 5.
Another rumor that popped up earlier this year is that PS5 will feature AMD Navi graphics architecture. Not only that, the report suggests that Navi is exclusive to PlayStation 5.
While Sony isn’t making any announcements about the PlayStation 5 or its specs but, the company is already working on PS5.
According to Sony president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, “at this point, what I can say is it’s necessary to have a next-generation hardware“. This indicates that Sony is actually working on its next-gen console.
Gamers and industry analysts are focusing on the upcoming PlayStation 5 and its specs. But according to a rumor, Sony has one more unannounced PS4 exclusive.
The report suggests that Sony will release the unannounced game for PS4 before it reveals the PlayStation 5. This means aside from The Last Of Us Part 2, Death Stranding, and Ghost Of Tsushima, Sony has another exclusive PS4 title in the works.
While the report suggests that PS5 will be a 4K console but, some devs don’t think that 4K/60 FPS a necessary standard for PlayStation 5 and next Xbox.
However, given that Microsoft has already raised the bar with Xbox One X, it is likely that Xbox Scarlet and PS5 will both be 4K consoles.
