25 Things to Learn From the New Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay Trailer

%%excerpt%% Here are twenty-five things to take away from the latest Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay trailer.

Following the announcement trailer at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 2018) a few months back, CD Projekt Red has brought out an extensive gameplay trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 to calm down salivating fans.

This appears to be from the same demonstration that was said to have been held behind closed doors back then exclusively for the press. While there is no telling why the developer took this long to make the footage public, the showcased gameplay clearly ascertains that the talented Polish team has returned with another fine gem to leave critics in awe.

Do keep in mind that everything shown was a work in progress, meaning that the content is subject to change.

Here are twenty-five things to take away from the latest Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay trailer.

Familiarizing with character customization

There will be a deep customization system available for players to create their own take on the central protagonist.

In addition to choosing between genders and appearances, players will be able to confirm a particular background story that will change how the world interacts. The same process will also ask players to spread points across different stats in accordance with their personal gameplay style.

Take note that the customization screen is simply a point of origin. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that players will be able to change looks and abilities throughout their progression in Cyberpunk 2077.

Meeting your mission partner Jackie Welles

Remember the burly fellow from the E3 2018 trailer? His name is Jackie Welles and in contrast to previous assumptions, he is not an antagonist.

Jackie will accompany players on their missions as a non-playable character, providing cover fire and useful distractions. He is a highly skilled assassin and one of the first contacts in the narrative.

In addition, it is his car that players will be driving around within the city. He probably has more up his sleeve.

Leaning toward different Takedowns

Barging with guns blazing will not be the only way to solve every hostile situation.

Cyberpunk 2077 will allow players to perform lethal and non-lethal takedowns on unsuspecting targets in order to keep it quiet. This does bring attention to stealth elements as players will also be able to drag and stash bodies out of sight.

Being wary of destructible cover

There will obviously be covering mechanics to accentuate the first-person shooter experience but players will have to be wary of the fact that the environment is completely destructible.

In other words, hiding behind a pillar or wall may not last long because the hail of bullets will soon likely destroy that cover. Hence, players will often have to be quick on their feet and move from cover to cover during a gunfight.

Finally, some hostiles may even surprise by shooting through walls.

Meeting the Trauma Team

They are not your average paramedics and actually belong to a militarized faction that are expertly trained in combat.

Those wealthy enough to afford their services are given a biochip implant that sends out an alert in the case of a medical emergency, summoning the Trauma Team to extract and stabilize the client.

Hence, players are likely to face them more often if they decided to mess around with biochips in Cyberpunk 2077.

Returning to your bastion

There will be a place for players to call home. This will be in the form of an apartment located inside a mega building compound, which highlights the possibility of attaining more bastions as the narrative unfolds.

The private pad will allow players to check their messages from other characters, receive updates on missions, customize their looks from the wardrobe, and arm themselves from an armory.

Earning additional Street Cred

Every piece of clothing in Cyberpunk 2077 grants not only protective stats such as armor and elemental resistances, but also Street Cred that boosts experience attained from completing side missions.

Once players have amassed enough credits, new vendors and content can be unlocked in the bustling night city. This will open up new opportunities for crucial upgrades, weaponry, and probably customization aspects.

Interacting with branding elements

In another effort to add more realism to the open-world setting, advertisements and signboards will play a significant part in the role-playing experience.

Every product branding found on the streets or inside compounds will be tailored for personal use. Coming close to an advertisement board will have it immediately morph and point players toward the nearest vendor.

Enjoying the seamless and complex open-world

There will be no loading screens when traveling across different districts, not even when entering buildings and mission-oriented areas. Everything will be seamless, which can only be admired when weighing the sophisticated open-world that Cyberpunk 2077 will boast.

Every face in the crowd will have a specific title in the hierarchical structure to give players an idea about their roles such as being a corporate rat, slacker, vendors, etc. In addition, they will all have their own programmed routines that change throughout the day and night.

Getting mission details through Shards

Instead of vague orders to follow a blip on the map, players will receive Shards that can be directly inserted in their augmented bodies to understand mission parameters. This only accentuates the futurisitc world of Cyberpunk 2077.

The visual briefing will highlight targets of interest, approximate number of hostiles and their weapon capabilities, and objectives.

Visiting the Ripper Doc

When it comes to acquiring new hardware and upgrading cybernetics, players will have to visit their local Ripper Doc for any available modifications.

There will be several enhancements to choose from, ranging from minor ones such as being able to scan targets to substantial ones such as heavily modding combat mechanics. There will sometimes be even “illegal” military-grade cyber-ware to attain. Just remember to have the required sum to pay for the services.

Driving around the city

Jackie has modified his sports car to deliver impressive handling and speed, and players will always be able to use it to get around from one place to another. In addition, there will be bikes as well to take out for a spin but these may have to be snatched from other owners.

However, players may find themselves in a bit of a pickle when behind the wheel. Shooting while driving will also be part of the experience.

Dealing with random encounters

There will be repercussions for every action and decision taken during the narrative in Cyberpunk 2077. These will mostly affect the storyline but sometimes can result in random encounters to stir things up.

For example, raiding the Scavengers at one point will force them to reply with a high-speed ambush on the road in retaliation.

Understanding gameplay-driven dialogues

There will obviously be pre-determined scripts but in tense situations, the dialogue options will change depending on how the players have gotten themselves involved.

Being hooked up to a lie detector test, for example, will leave it up to the players to either play the fool or not. Going for a weapon may seem like a great decision instead of spilling the truth, except when the other party has greater numbers.

Hence, the dynamic dialogues will outline several options and manners to approach each situation. They may also link with previously chosen actions within the same scenario.

Inspecting items on the fly

Every piece of gadgetry can be closely examined at will. This includes the weapons and items currently equipped as well as those found in the environment.

Since the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is rich in technology, players are likely to come across all manner of items. Inspecting them will not only allow players to get a better look at the design but also learn valuable information. These details may even help accomplish missions.

Meeting the Maelstrom Gang

There will be all kinds of factions in Cyberpunk 2077 and the Maelstrom Gang is probably going to be one of the worst ones to come across.

They have a sickening obsession with body modifications and consider natural human parts to be a weakness. Hence, their members will normally be seen with high profile cybernetics. They are also deemed extremely dangerous, majority of whom are clinically psychopaths. They have no honor except to wreak havoc while making a nifty profit on the side.

Controlling the MT0D12 Spider Robot

Traditional weapons will not be the only way to go on the offensive.

Introducing the MT0D12 Spider Robot, a state-of-the-art hardware that connects with the human nervous system to receive direct commands. The bot is covered in titanium armor and can blend with the environment to become invisible. It is also extremely mobile, being able to crawl up walls or hang from ceilings.

If anything, this spiderling will become available at some point in the storyline to be used by players.

Engineering and Hacking

In addition to abilities, there will be certain skills to learn in order to solve problems and puzzles.

For the time being, two of these have been revealed to be engineering and hacking. The former will allow players to fiddle with circuitry to fix, disassemble, and disarm devices blocking paths. The latter, on the other hand, will be used to access security networks, bypass firewalls, and remotely control devices.

Unlocking high-end weapon mods

In light of the futuristic setting, it is only logical for traditional weaponry to feature impressive enhancements. These are called mods in Cyberpunk 2077 and will come in all forms for all sorts of situations.

To being with, players will have the option of upgrading their weapons with the ricochet targeting system to shoot at enemies around corners. There will also be another targeting system that allows players to see targets through walls.

Then there are the weapons themselves such as the Mantis Blades that cut down enemies in close proximity and smart rifles that fire homing bullets.

Flexing the jumping mechanics

Just to point out that players will be able to double-jump as well as bounce off walls. With certain modifications, they will also be able to run across walls.

The mobility mechanics further feature the ability to dive and slide across the ground, with players being able to take aim and shoot while dodging bullets.

Jacking into Neural Networks

Since every character in Cyberpunk 2077 has a personal chip implant, players will be able to directly connect with that neural network to access all kinds of critical information.

The same is the case with hostiles and in such scenarios, plugging into gang members will often open up their internal database. This will allow players to oversee schematics of their hideouts, building plans, hidden rooms, and most importantly, being able to deploy software to disable devices and weapons.

Dismembering hostile targets

The environment will not be the only destructible aspect in Cyberpunk 2077. Certain weapons and ammunition will be able to blast limbs (and more) when precisely targeted.

This does mean that sidearms such as handguns and pistols will not lead to dismemberment. However, an old fashioned shotgun, for example, will leave hostiles without their legs in a single boom.

In addition, the aforementioned Mantis Blades will allow players to decapitate at will.

Finding weak spots in gunfights

Not every boss fight will require players to fire their weapons like maniacs. In most cases, bosses will have designated targets that need to be blown away first. These weak spots will only be visible after being scanned by players through their augmented cybernetics.

In that light, it is possible that higher-level bosses will require higher-level hardware to highlight the red zones.

Knowing the best weapon manufacturer

Similar to the real world, corporations rule the fictional night city in Cyberpunk 2077. These conglomerates have grown accustomed to having their way, using blood money to buy influence and weighing on corruption to force people into submission.

There are quite a few corporations that delve in weapon manufacturing and players will have plenty to choose from. However, keep in mind that corporate weapons will always be found at the top of the pile. They are the best in the business because their technology, often slipping into the military-grade category, cannot be matched by the competition.

Hence, they will also come at a pretty cost. That being said, it will be possible to find corporate weapons stashed away illegally in backward areas. Players will just have to search for them as best as they can.

Rippling consequences in missions

The role-playing aspect is undoubtedly the strongest pillar beneath the Cyberpunk 2077 pantheon. The genre has always prided itself on the fact that the unraveling narrative offers branching choices, resulting in different outcomes and eventually adding significant replay value.

Cyberpunk 2077 goes a step beyond in this regard. Every mission will have certain junctions where players can deviate based on their decisions. From how the mission was initially received to how the first meeting went down, from how an item of interest was obtained to how it was finally delivered. Even reputations and relationships will factor in, among several other elements.

Everything will depend upon choices made by the players, making the progression not only overly complex but also highly expressive.
