Watch Dogs 2 Sailboat Races – How to Start

In order to participate in Sailboat Races, you must be able to buy yourself a boat. It does not have to be the fastest one available in the game, but you should definitely go for the best possible option.

In order to buy a boat, you need to head over to the Sailboat Shop at the Yacht Club of Legacy Bay in Marin. Once you have your boat, you should be able to participate in the six races around the San Francisco Bay.

Shortcuts
One important thing that you need to keep in mind is that Sailboat Races are not remotely like car races. When it comes to these races, you need to keep the direction of the wind in mind. You basically should not always go for the shortest point between two checkpoints and keep an eye out of the dotted line along the course.

The Direction of the Wind Matters
As mentioned earlier, you always need to keep a check on the direction of the wind. Since it appears on your mini-map, it is important that you pay special attention to your mini-map. During the course of a race, you need to spend most of the time trying to hit the wind against your sails.

In addition to this, you can also unfurl your sails which completely prevents the winds from passing through your sails and is a good idea to put your boat to a halt. This is particularly useful if you want to slow down your boat in order to take some sharp turns.

Close Turns
During the course of a race, you need to turn as near a buoy as possible. Other boats always try and go for larger turns in order to avoid collisions with the other boats which is what you need to take advantage of. The idea is to speed up to a buoy and as soon as you get close to it, take a sharp turn, but make sure not to hit anything.

Less Turns
As mentioned earlier, you need to spend most of the time going along the wind by constantly looking at your mini-map. However, when you are forced to slow down, your utmost priority should be to reach the next buoy with as less turn as possible.

If you fail to do this, you will slow down your boat immensely and ruin your chances of winning.
