Side Quests, not to be confused with Tasks, are one of the numerous side activities players can take part in The Outer Worlds to know more about the planets, their population while getting some good loot and XP in return. These side quests are fairly simple and below we have listed all the side quests and their locations across various planets should you ever need help.

The Outer Worlds Side Quests

Given the big world of The Outer Worlds, players will travel to various planets and moons during their journey. Each planet has its own set of side quests all of which are given below


At Central (Prosperity Plaza)
You will have to accept the offer of Maverick Johnston’s on the street of Prosperity Plaza in Byzantium.

Then you will have to go to Odeon Pictures which is near the Bureau of Exploration in Byzantium. You will have to go up using the elevator and then you can speak with Maverick Johnston using the intercom that is present on the wall. You will 9000 XP and he’ll let you know that the other actors have real weapons and you will get a quest update.

A door will open and you need to go there and speak to the Actor. Here are your options:

  1. Lie (40) and gain Xp by telling him that the crates are just decoys.
  2. You can use your Intelligence and Science (65) then you can tell him that his proposal is scientifically impossible.
  3. You can get more XP by using science (40) and speaking to him.
  4. You can challenge him to try you, which he won’t do and it will end the scene.
  5. You can also attack and kill everyone there to get extra XP with no ramifications.

Whatever you do you will gain 9000 XP and the Maverick will speak to you again. Speak with him and get 9000 more XP along with 1,125 Bit Cartridges.

Why Call Them Back From Retirement
Gain this quest from speaking with Hortense Ingalsbee in Byzantium.

Head to the retiree area which is near the Byzantium Freight Port Landing Pad. Either fast travel there or take the elevator down. Use the terminal there to unseal the door, then head into the Early Retirement District.

There are some things here that you can examine that tell you about the Retirement Program. Use the terminal up ahead to consent to the rules and regulations of Early Retirement. Head down the elevator and you’ll gain 9500 XP and you’ll find corpses everywhere with robots cleaning them up.

You’ll be attacked by waves of automechanicals and will have to kill them all. Once you do, use the terminal. You can Hack (65) automechanicals and unseal the Hatch to the Maintenance Tunnels. Head into them.

There you will have to fight more autiomechanicals if you haven’t already disabled them by using hack. You can either head to the door on the right side or you can open the door right there using lockpicking (55). Get to the opposite end of the maintenance tunnel and get back to prosperity Plaza using the elevator.

You can either tell Hortense when you get to her about what is going on or you can just lie (35) to her and make her go to the Retirement District. In case you tell her then she will say that it is brilliant but at the cost of a negative board reputation.

You can use intimidation (60) in order to get her to pay you even more and you will get 2,188 Bit Cartridges along with 28500 XP. Lying to her again will get you 1,125 more Bit Cartridges and 28500 XP along with a better board reputation.

By His Bootstraps
You will have to land in Roseway and enter the town to get this quest. You will have to accept the Rescue the Labcoat quest to get started by finding and talking with Anton Crane and you will get to know that he left behind his protégé at the lab while the commotion was happening.

Then you will have to leave town and go to Roseway Gardens then fight with Raptidon and defeat it when it attacks you when you go to Auntie-Biotics Lab 0013. There will be vending machine along with a terminal there which you can hack and unlock the lift in the hallway and get the storage facility passcode as well.

There is another way without hacking that makes you go towards the left door from the entrance and get to the upper level or the third method is to use lockpicking to open the door on the right.

When you get to the second floor, you will find a lot of Raptidon and loot Elite Troop Armor from a Corporate Commander corpse that you have to defeat. To get to an office there will be an unlocked door nearby and inside the office there is a Gigantaur Energy drink that you have to pick up.

The terminal here will give you information about the Raptidon experiment. There will be a Standard Troop Helmet and a container that you can loot.

You can open the locked door in the large office where you fought the Raptidons using the Cleo Lab Office Keyboard or by lockpicking. After unlocking the door you can go to Jameson and have a chat with him. He asks your purpose of being here after he recognizes you.

You will tell him that you are here because of Anton, upon doing this he will tell you that Anton micromanages everything he does and has no regard from him and only cares about his precursors. There is an option to say that an employee’s death would have a negative impact on the image of Anton and then get the item from him in order to test this theory or you can just leave.

Telling him about the employee death will get you 8250xp and Jameson will run off and going back to Anton and talking to him in order to get Auntie Cleo Reputation will get you 1000 Bit Cartridge and 11,000 XP.

Vulcan’s Hammer
In order to get this quest you will have to talk to Orson Shaw who is present close to the Workbench in Roseway. You will have to go the Storage Facility and defeat the marauders when you get there.

There will be an armory door which is locked. The passcode is in Auntie- Biotics lab. When you get the code you can go inside and get FORCE Pistol Schematics which are present on a wall inside the basement and you will get 11000 XP. There will be an Acid Steeper there as well on a shelf close to the schematics, this steeper will be used for the Cleaning Machine quest.

You will get your reward from Orson or Gladys. You will have to ask Orson about the reason for not turning in his contraband if you return to him.

You can use Intimidate or Persuade (45)in order to make him buy the weapon for 100 Bit Cartridge at the cost of losing untie Cleo Reputation (5% negative).

You will get the Unique Weapon: Ulti- Nature so it would be better to have better relations with this guy.

The Amateur Alchemist
This quest will be obtained in Roseway as a part of The Distress Signal when to get here, in case you go into the Auntie Cleo apartments area and speak with Vaughn Cortes. You will get the quest if you agree to his request for his help for the quest.

You will need to fight a lot of Outlaws and Raptidons once you get to Cover Labs which is southeast of Roseway. After you are done fighting with them you will get to Vaughn’s Research. There will be a terminal inside and you need to choose what to do with it.

You can give two samples out by calibrating the experiment using 50 Science which will yield 2x Raptidon Musk but the same experiment will give you only half the yield.

You can also get the unique Weapon Rapti-Prod from this area.

You will have to choose who gets the data you got from the terminal between Vaughn, Anton and Gladys and the number of samples you have correspond to the number of people you can give the data to. The quest will be Botched if you give it to Gladys. You will get XP if you give it to Vaughn or Anton and it will finish your quest.

If you go back to Vaughn you can give him two samples or lie (45) to him and keep half the sample. Your reward would be 8250xp, and 11000 xp along with Auntie Cleo Reputation upon completing the quest. You can ask for 1875 Bit Cartridge as well.

Journey into Smoke (Covert Lab – Roseway Gardens)
In case you freed Casandra O’Malley while doing The Doom That Came to Roseway only then you would get this quest. You will have to revive a rare cigarette case for Lillian when you meet her at the Covert Lab exit. You will be asked to go to the Raptidon Pens which is in the south.

You will have to save yourselves from mines which also include a Behemoth. The cigarette case is present atop a white box there and you will get 9000XP. You will be advised by Vicar Max to keep the item so you can sell it later if he is in you party.

Following are your options for ending this quest:

  1. Go back to Lillian lie (25) about the case and a reward of 9000xp, 12000xp, will be yours along with the completion of the quest.
  2. The other option is to give her the case, where you can use Intimidate (45), and again get 9000xp and 12000xp.
  3. If you give her the case without any conditions then you’ll gain 9000xp, 12000xp, 625 Bit Cartridge and Anarchist’s Cookbook which is a Unique Weapon.

A Few Kindred Spirits (Botanical Lab)
You will get this quest by speaking with Grace Romero who is present at the entrance to the Botanical Labs which is north of Edgewater in the Emerald Vale. She will ask you to help her find a lost deserter. Help her by investigating Zoe’s room and by also speaking with her friend Stefan who will be present at his residence on the porch.

Inquire about his disappearing day. You will be told that Grace never came with her for the serial they were going to watch. He had a copy of Masked Marketeer as a surprise for her. You will also be told that she was “journaling”.

You will get 1125 XP and a quest update when you read the Journal at Zoe’s house.

Toward the Marauders

Go to Zoe’s destination and you will meet a group of Marauders and Candid that you have to defeat. A container in this area has a Mag-Pick that you can loot. There is also a primal Behemoth present in this area which is not that easy to defeat, so be careful. Once you defeat the afore mentioned enemies you can then loot the cave close by which has Heavy Ammo, Energy Cell, Weapon Parts, Armor Parts and Bit Cartridge.

Abandoned Industrial Zone

You will also have to defeat the Marauders and Canid in this area as well as be careful of the landmines present in this area. Defeat the enemies and talk to Zoe upon which she will tell you what she went through and her experience of the outlaws.

You can use Persuade (10) or Intimidate (38) to make her return. If you persuade her you will get an option of talking about Stefan. You will get 1125XP along with her return to the Botanical Lab.

Or you can also kill her and get 1500 XP and get her ring to prove that she is dead.

You will go back to Grace and let her know the truth about Zoe which will not cause any problems and you will get 4125xp along with increased positive reputation with the Deserters faction which will also raise your status to Agreeable if you had none.

You can also lie (5) to her keeping in mind that you killed her and show her the ring as proof that she is dead. You will get 4000 XP, Deserters Reputation and a Bolter Pistol.

The Frightened Engineer (Botanical Lab)
Talking to Thomas Kemp will get you this quest and you will have to make use of your engineering skills in order to help out Thomas. He will ask you to get him some books one of which is present in the Community Center close by and another in Edgewater.

The Guide to Mechanical Engineer Vol. 2 will be present on the Second floor of Edgewater Cannery.

For the other book, you will have to go to Emerald Vale Community Center, and defeat the Marauder enemies there. Go left from the entrance and you will see barred doors that will take you to a medical room.

Pick up Experimental Anthrocillin and you will get 3000 XP along with the The Long Tomorrow quest. Then head right from the entrance and climb the stairs and get the book titled Guide to Mechanical Engineering: Volume 1.

After that you will have to go to the Geothermal Power Plant. There are several purged files near the entrance but for the last book you will have to go to the Repair Bay. Upon getting there you will get to know that it is in a pit because of a note. The Vol.3 would be next to Higgins on 1F of the Power Plant and you will get 2000Xp when you pick it up.

For each volume you will get these rewards respectively:

  1. Deserters Reputation and 300 Bit Cartridges.
  2. Deserters Reputation and 500 Bit Cartridges.
  3. 8750 XP, Deserters Reputation and Eltro-Charged Surface.

Fistful of Digits (Edgewater)

To get this quest you will have to talk to Constable Reyes in Edgewater. Then it’s mostly defeating marauders and looting their camps. These camps are in the following locations:

  1. Marauder Encampment: It is in the Northwest of Edgewater in Bertie Cotton. If you had already cleared this camp then it will be repopulated for this quest. The rewards are 900xp for kill and 1000xp for picking up finger.
  2. Abandoned Industrial Zone: This one is on the Northeast of Edgewater in Guillaume Antrim. If you had already cleared this camp then it will be repopulated for this quest. The rewards are 900xp for kill and 1000xp for picking up finger.
  3. Marauder Hideout: This is in the North of Edgewater and comes after you cross Geothermal Plant in Doc Maybell. You will have to deal with a lot of Canid and Marauders here. The rewards are 900xp for kill and 1000xp for picking up finger.

When you go back to Constable Reyes you will get your rewards. For every finger you picked up you get 1000xp, 500 Bit Cartridge and 5% improved Spacer’s Choice reputation.

The Long Tomorrow (Edgewater)
You will get this quest by talking to Martin Abernathy in Edgewater. When leaving his place you will immediately be met by Esther Blaine. She will persuade you to sell her the medicine giving you the reason that Abernathy is a hypochondriac.

In case you have passed a persuade (10) check then Esther will claim that the sick people in the town need the medicine which is why she wants it as there is a lack of medicine.

For Experimental Anthrocillin you will have to go to the Emerald Vale Community Center inside the medical area. Medical Bay key is required to go in which is present on one of the Marauders. Now it’s up to whom you want to give these to.

In case you give it to Martin then he’ll let you know that he has no idea what a hypochondriac is, also you will have to pass a Medicine (5) check. You will 3500 XP, Spacer’s Choice Reputation and 500 Bit Cartridges when you give him the medicine. You can extra 300 Bit Cartridges from him by using Persuade (5) or Intimidate (5).

Or the contrary if you opt to give the medicine to Esther you’ll get 7000XP, Spacer’s Choice Reputation up, 700 Bit Cartridge. You can also use intimidate in order to receive more bits or charm for extra 300 Bit Cartridge.

She will present you with names of the people that will be giving the medicine to which is Silas, Amelia Kim from the canteen, and “anybody in the Sickroom”. You can persuade Rosemary Kwan there for taking the medicine from Esther.

Die, Robot (Edgewater Landing Pad)
Go to the Landing Pad which is in the South of  Edgewater to get this quest by talking to Ludwig Miller and agree with the mechanical uprising theory and accept the quest to head north for the Junkyard.

There will be a robot at the junkyard that needs to be fixed and Parvati will fix it if you have her then you can go back to Ludwig upon which you will XP and location of a secret weapon.

Then you need to go to the Canteen and check behind the toilet where you will find Ludwig’s Sealed Bundle and you will get 1700xp.

Go back to the landing pad to meet Ludwig and get another 1700xp and Mag-2-Zap (Weapon Mod). A Geothermal’s Plant passcode is needed which can be obtained if you talk to Reed Tobson for the Stranger in a Strange Land quest.

Geothermal Plant Repair Bay (4F)

You have to find switches the first of which is on the 4th floor close to where you descend on it. Explore the room nearby and you will find Jeremy who will tell you that all the autmechanicals need to be put down because of flawed logic in them. You need to accept this offer.

You will need to get the Security Chief’s keycard from his corpse by going up the staircase from the repair bay. There is also an LMG there if you want. In case you have Chester’s Passcode you hack the terminal in the same room.

Geothermal Plant 5F
Go to the fifth floor at the place of the first use of the passcode, The corrupted logic module is inside the room there that you can unlock using the Keycard you acquired. Mag-Pick, Adrena-Time, Adreno and Weapon Parts can be looted from this room.

Give Ludwig the item at the Landing Pad and get your reward.


A Family Matter
You need to find Tucker Needham in Amber Heights which is a settlement that houses the Iconoclasts on Monarch. It is claimed by his mother that he will be there in case he has survived his travels.

Once you find Tucker, you will have to convince him to come home to his mother in Stellar Bay. Upon completing this quest you will get 15000xp, 625 Bit Cartridge and an increase in Monarch Stellar Industries Reputation.

Herrick’s Handiwork
For this quest you will have to make Velma negotiate who is the person responsible for managing the Stellar Bay Warehouse. Some things you need to know which are that Caleb will need to come back to work if the stash of Bits that he lives off of goes missing.

You can find proof that Velma skims money from the Warehouse accounts to use as leverage in order to make Velma negotiate. She will mention her office terminal when you confront her about skimming money. You will find evidence of her skimming money form the terminal from the financial data which shows that money has been going into her personal account.

You will then let Caleb know that Velma will negotiate when you have convinced her to and then Caleb and his team can come back to work when you let him know. You will get 15000xp for completing the quest along with 625 Bit Cartridge and an increase in Monarch Stellar Industries Reputation.

Passion Pills
For this quest you will have to go to MSI dispensary and get Nyoka’s Medicine, she’ll need “steroid-or-caffeine-something.” The problem is that she has fulfilled her month’s quota so it is a little issue. You will need to get to Dr. Williams terminal which is upstairs so that you can change the allotments. You can get the key from Abigail because she claims to have it.

It would feel like the medicine is in a supply room of which Abigail has the key. You can search Dr. William’s Body as well who was the in charge of Stellar’s Bay’s medical allotments and is not currently buried in a graveyard which is in the rouns south of town.

You will go to the terminal and increase Nyoka’s allotment and now Abigail can get you an extra dose of Caffenoid. You will go back to Nyoka with her Caffenoid. You will get 28000xp, 1200 Bit Cartirdge as reward and an option to choose Nyoka as your companion.

The Grimm Tomorrow
You have to check with Celia to get started. She works in the MSI building with Sanjar Nandi. It is expected that she has information about the status of Grimm’s poster. Then you will have to speak will Velma by going to the warehouse.

You can get the Grimm’s Tossball poster from her because she is responsible for all the SubLight’s incoming shipments. But she is saving it for Nell who has already offered her to buy it. Nell runs a betting  parlor in Stellar Bay so she has locked the poster in her office.

You will have to convince Nell to give the poster and she’ll agree if you agree to finding her Tossball jerseys lost shipment which is present near Amber Heights.

Once you get the poster you will have to get it back to Grimm at the landing pad. You will get 14000xp, 625 Bit Cartridge, Pro Tossball Blocker and Monarch Stellar Industries Reputation as reward.

The Secret People
In this quest you will start by going to Braxtron’s Apartment because he hasn’t been to work for some days and Velma has to work for extra shifts. You will have to go there and get him back to saltuna fishery.

By searching his house you will come to know that he had to make a delivery to the South of Stellar Bay to a house. You might find clues of his whereabouts from there. Then Edgar will invite you to stay for dinner and the people there will claim to have no knowledge of a guy named Braxton.

But you will find a corpse in the room on the Third floor which will have no head so immediate identification is difficult but you can check the corpse for I.D.

Then you will have to get out of the house because the corpse was most probably of Braxton who had been butchered and the people there were cannibals.

You have the option to kill the Mather family there. After that you have to come back to Velma at the Fishery and tell her what happened to Braxton.

You will get 15000xp, 625 Bit Cartridge and an increase in Monarch Stellar Industries Reputation.

The Stainless Steel Rat
When you get to the large building which is in the south of the Stellar Bay map and there you will see Talmadge Kerr shouting that someone has been murdered inside the apartment.

You will have to go up to the apartment and see what happened to the victim. It would not be easy to deduce what happened to the victim. But there will be a betting slip there from Left Field Tossball Betting. Also, there will be a suitcase full of clothes by the door.

Then you will leave for investigating Left Field Tossball Betting because of the slip you found. People there might have some knowledge about he victim. The name of Elijah and his Gang will come up because it is claimed by Nell that they killed Isaac. They are present in the Yacht Club when they are not doing deliveries to the Bays.

Then you will let Sanjar know about Isaac’s Murder after you deal with Elijah and his gang by going to the MSI Headquarter.

You will get 15000xp, 625 Bit Cartridge along with increase in Monarch Stellar Industries reputation.

Little Memento

You will ask you to investigate an outpost by Ash. After finding the outpost you will come to know that it is empty and there are no mercenaries here. But you can find clues about their whereabouts there.

Then you will have to find the mercenaries who you believe to have fled to a waterfall nearby. You need the keepsake box from them which most probably they still have.

You will see that the mercenaries have become a victim to the Monarch Wilderness. One of them will have the box that you need to get and return back to Ash and get your reward. You will get 15000xp and 875 Bit Cartridge from this quest.

Slaughterhouse Clive

You will have to go to Clive Lumbergh’s office which is in the C&P Boarst Factory and make him stay out of SubLight’s way. You also have the option to look around in the factory to find way to sabotage Clive’s operations. You will be suggested by Catherine to search the cystypig food supply, canning machine or the financial records.

You also have the option to make Catherine work with Clive by convincing her when you go back to her Fallbrook. The rewards include 28000xp, 2188 Bit Cartridge, Oxi-Comp Aromatic, SubLight Contractor Helm, SubLight Salvage and an increase in Shipping Reputation.

A Cysty-Dance with Death

You will have to confront Clive and convince him to give you permission to murder Catherine Malin which you can do easily by sneaking up to her and you will get 1200XP.

After it’s done you need to talk to Clive and get 28000 XP and max Positive Reputation with C&P Boarst Factory.

Other rewards include 1,125 Bit Cartridges and the Unique Weapon: Clive’s Cleaver and if you talk to Clive about the cans of Boarst that are present on the table in the next room then you will get another 625 Bit Cartridges.


The Distress Signal

You will have to play the distress Signal recording on your ship in order to let ADA know the nav coordinates so that they can come to the Roseway landing pad.

Then you need to find Secrets in Roseway about the companies there that you can then sell to the highest bidder through Gladys. The scientist are the good start.

You would get Weapon Plans which would be worth it to Gladys. You can also get Anton’s Research as it is very valuable to Gladys along with Vaughn’s semi-legal research.

Here are the rewards based on the things you acquired.

For the toothpaste formula Gladys will give you 3,750 Bit Cartridges and it will complete the quest The Doom That Came to Roseway and also get you 32,000 XP.

In case you get here the Raptidon Musk you will get 1,875 Bit Cartridges at the cost of botching the Amateur Alchemist quest.

Last but not the least, for the FORCE Pistol Schematics you will get 1,875 Bit Cartridges at the cost of botching the Vulcan’s Hammer quest.

Happiness is a Warm Spaceship

For this quest you will have to get new parts for the Radiator Array which helps the groundbreaker cool down. You will have to go to the back bays and get old machinery from there because Junlei wants you to. If you resolved things peacefully with MacRedd then you can get the parts and go back to Junlei.

You will have to ask Junlie about the purpose of the parts you found upon which she will ask you to enter the maintenance shaft and install the new parts in there with her. She also warns you to keep your wapons.

After that you will go back to her and tell her that the radiators are fixed and get your reward which is 18,000 xp, 3,000 Bit Cartridge, Welder’s Goggles and increase in Groundbreaker reputation.

Solution Vital
You will need to go to Dr. Dorsett on Corporal Wheeler request to tell her about her shipment’s status. The you will have to find Captain Irion who is on Scylla in order to make sure he is fine but you will come to know that he is actually captured by a bunch of outlaws and you need to save him.

After doing that go back to Dr. Dorsett and you will get 20000xp, 1500 Bit Cartridge, 3x Immunosol, 3x Auntie-Biotics Creme, 3x Adreno and increased Groundbreaker Reputation.

The Silent Voices
After you have completed Happiness is a Warm Spaceship then you could come to meet Edna Ingmire on the Groundbreaker who will give you this quest. Then you will have to go to Relay GB-23 using your ship and beat the robots present there.

You calso have the option to hack (45) using the terminal then you will not have to fight the robots. Look out for mines as well.

You can activate the relay using the keycard you found from a corpse on the terminal. When you go back to Edna you will get 18,500 XP, 1,500 Bit Cartridges and better reputation with Groundbreaker.

Who Goes There?
You can get this quest by talking to Cmdt. Sanita or perusing the bounty board and if you complete this quest you will get access to even security restricted areas which you need for quests like The Empty Man.

The purpose is to look for Captain MacRedd who is present in the Back Bays area. Use the elevator in the promenade to go down there and you will find him.

You have the option to Persuade (40) him which will make him put his gun down. The other option is the violent one in which you have to kill him along with his guards but you will get the Unique Weapon: Montag.

Your rewards include 6000xp and MacRedd’s Lighter and when you go back to Cmdt. Sanita, they will give you 14000xp, Ollie Ollie Toxifree x2 and 1000x Bit Cartridge along with an increase in Groundbreaker Reputation.
