Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Won’t Feature Microtransactions, Developer Clarifies

Microtransactions have never been on the good side of gamers and usually, developers try to avoid them. Now, developer From Software has confirmed that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will not feature microtransactions.

The reason why the developer needed to clarify is that recently the game’s listing on PlayStation Store noted that the game features in-game purchases. This led to many wondering that the game might feature in-game microtransactions.

The clarification that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will not feature microtransactions comes from Step 3, a PR firm representing Activision.

According to the firm, “There are no plans for microtransactions in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice”.

The firm further noted that the “in-game purchases” blurb appearing on the PlayStation Store was “an erroneous tick box” which will be fixed soon.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice comes after From Software concluded the critically acclaimed Dark Souls series.

While many fans are already making comparisons between the two but, the studio has noted that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is designed from the ground up.

According to From Software, the game it is not an evolution of the Souls games as the game was designed from the ground up.

Hidetaka Miyazaki noted that while they did learn a lot from the Dark Souls games and the Bloodborne but, they have reinvented the formula for the upcoming Sekiro Shadows Die Twice and has built it from “ground up”.

Talking about bringing a few things from Dark Souls franchise, the developers have also noted that while Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice features a direct story but the game will largely be a “fragmented experience”.

Having a fixed protagonist allows us to base the core story around him and the main characters around him. We hope that the initial story, at least from the outset, will be easier to grasp and understand. But our general philosophy hasn’t changed. It will still be a fragmented experience that the player will have to piece together themselves.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is an action-adventure title in development at From Software and will launch in 2019 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
