Another Retailer Pegs PlayStation 5 Price at $500

Sony has jumped right into the console war again last week, announcing their own next-gen console to “fight” against Xbox’s Project Scarlet. Although we don’t know much about it, retails speculate that the price for a Playstation 5 should be somewhere around $500.

The concept behind the price for Sony’s next console isn’t just a number appearing out of thin air. The $500 mark is set by analysts, players, retailers and market observers alike. Taking into account what the company has done with their previous models, it’s a safe bet to expect Playstation 5 to be set at that price range too.

A European retailer, Progamingshop in Slovakia, has even created placeholders for the Playstation 5 price, setting it to $500.

The listing also includes the Playstation 5 body picture that wants the console to be extremely bulky along with the rumored Dualshock controller, mounting a screen in the middle. Of course, these are just there for the sake of the listing, so don’t take the pictures for granted as they are 99.9% fake.

Fans are discussing the matter on forums and the outcome is the same. Everyone wants Sony’s next-gen console to be priced at half a thousand dollars. This falls right into line with what expectations from analysts wanted.

Specs-wise, the Playstation 5 CPU will be an x86-64-AMD Ryzen “Zen2” with 8 cores / 16 threads. Those who anticipated this to be true can finally rest as the next Playstation is indeed powerful.

It will support 4K gaming and will have a huge focus on cutting down loading times. There are discussions about Sony releasing 2 separate Playstation 5 consoles, a classic and a Pro one, continuing the pattern of its predecessor. At launch, this looks highly unlikely. In a year or so after launch though, who knows? We can’t really expect what the technology will be like in 2021-2022.

As for the new DualShock 5 controller, it will include haptic feedback with a lot of improvements. Instead of the conventional rumbling motor, highly programmable voice-coil actuators are set into the left and right grips of the controller. They will work in tandem with the adaptive triggers to respond to every in-game action for what Sony calls “astonishing effects” on PlayStation 5.

Fans can expect to buy Playstation 5 sometime during the 2020 holiday period, meaning sometime around the last quarter of the year. There’s still not a final launch date, the news will be coming through in the months to come. Note that there’s still a year before we get our hands on the next Sony console, so don’t get too excited yet.
