Oculus Go was announced around six months ago and since then no specific launch window was announced for the upcoming headset and Facebook still hasn’t announced the release date but according to a report, Oculus Go will launch in May.
Oculus Go will be a standalone VR headset that will launch in 2018 with a price tag of $199. According to the report from Variety, who claims that multiple sources have revealed it to them that Facebook will launch Oculus Go at the f8 developer conference on May 1st.
For those who don’t know, Oculus Go is based on the same software as Samsung’s Gear VR headset which means that Oculus Go will have access to VR games and video experiences right out of the box.
However, one major difference between this and Samsung Gear VR is that it comes with an integrated display, unlike Gear VR which requires a phone to be attached to watch 360 videos.
Speaking of Oculus, Oculus Rift has become the most used VR headset by Steam users. According to Steam hardware survey, Oculus Rift surpassed HTC Vive in terms of Steam users.
The survey suggests that 47.31% of Steam users are using the Oculus Rift while 45.38% of Steam users prefer HTC Vive. Also, This is the first time Oculus has surpassed Vive in terms of users since launch.
When it comes to virtual reality headsets, Sony’s PSVR has also taken a significant market share for itself and game developers have started to appreciate the PSVR.
According to Harold Vancol, the Creative Director at Grab Games, PlayStation 5 and PSVR shouldn’t just be bundled together but should be considered as one and both pieces of hardware should be essential with one another.
