(Update) Metro Exodus Won’t Get Steam Preload Due to Epic Store Taking Priority

Metro Exodus is releasing its preload on Epic Games Store instead of Steam. The news comes from the official Deep Silver representitive.

Update: There is a contradicting report coming from the official Twitter account for Metro Exodus. The pages stated that the preload for Metro will be available to the Steam user but not to Epic Games Store users.

Original Story: According to Deep Silver, the publisher of Metro Exodus, the game won’t get Steam preload. The reason behind the lack of preload on Steam is the fact that most traffic is expected from Epic Games Store.

The release date of Metro Exodus is closing in without any news of preload. This sparked concern in one of the fans and he reached out to Deep Silver to inquire about Metro Exodus Steam preload. In a reply to the fan, Deep Silver representative stated that the company expects high traffic from Epic Games Store so preload probably won’t be available on Valve’s platform.

Deep Silver shifted Metro Exodus to Epic Games Store and ditched Steam for a one year exclusive deal with Epic. The early influx of cash will help the developer support the game prior to its release. However, the community hasn’t been too kind to the idea. Metro series fans rallied behind Steam and even went as far as review bombing older games in the franchise.

The situation got worse when instead of calming fans down, one of the Metro developers threatened to boycott PC as a platform for Metro games. Metro creator 4A Games had to release an official statement to calm things down.

The situation followed a different issue where Deep Silver sent Epic Games Store keys to pre-orders made through the official website.
