Metro Exodus Demo Showcasing Real-Time Ray Tracing Is The Stuff Of Dreams, Nvidia Volta GPUs Coming Soon?

Just recently 4A Games revealed that Metro Exodus is going to the first game use Nvidia RTX real-time Ray tracing tech and now the studio has rolled out Metro Exodus demo showcasing just how realistic a game can look with the use of Nvidia RTX real-time Ray tracing.

As you can see in the video below the Metro Exodus demo showcases an uncut scene which itself is in-game. The results are just phenomenal and the scene looks really realistic.

According to 4A Games, they used Nvidia RTX real-time Ray tracing to render the ambient occlusion and “Indirect Lighting in full realtime, in a practical in-game scenario.”

The studio further noted that in previous Metro titles the development team utilized “several custom-made systems” but, with Nvidia’s real-time ray tracing they are able to “replace it with one single system that covers all our needs and outputs the quality of offline renderers”.

Speaking of Metro Exodus, according to the studio the PC version of the game will be breathtaking. According to the studio, as much they are striving for the game to be as optimized as possible but the team also likes to “blow up video cards”.

However, this demo raises the question which is are Nvidia Pascal-based GPUs capable of running this game with real-time Ray tracing tech enabled?

While we won’t know the answer to it until the game releases but, this demo might indicate that Nvidia will be rolling out its Volta GPUs either before the game’s release or with the game’s launch.

Because let’s be honest, it seems like a stretch that current Nvidia GPUs, except for the GTX 1080 and GTX 1080Ti, will be able to render this real-time tech as GTX 1070 has a tough time rendering Rise of the Tomb Raider with VXAO enabled.

What do you think of Nvidia RTX real-time ray tracing? Will current Nvidia GPUs be able to render this tech for Metro Exodus? Let us know in the comments.
