History Of Cyberpunk 2077 – The Story Of CDPR’s Next Big Title, Everything You Need To Know

History of Cyberpunk 2077 gets you speed up on everything you need to know about CDPR's next big title and how it surfaced.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that has been in the works and in the backs of our minds since 2013. The game is simply too massive of a project for us to sit back and wait for the developers to do their thing.

However, information has trickled forth at a very slow rate and we have been kept in the dark in regards to any details of the game.

The purpose of this History of Cyberpunk 2077 article is to arrange all the little information that we have had into a single piece so that the reader is aware of all that there is to know about Cyberpunk so far.

So, sit back and take a look at a game that could be one of the biggest releases in the history of the industry or just another overly hyped disaster; although after Witcher games, I have nothing but trust in CDPR.

History of Cyberpunk 2077

Before there was ever a concept of a Cyberpunk video game, Cyberpunk was a tabletop-RPG that utilized the pen and paper to deliver results rather than high fidelity visuals and vivid scenes of destruction.

Cyberpunk 2013 and Cyberpunk 2020 were 2 tabletop games that were written by Mike Pondsmith.

In case anyone of you played the original board game and are worried that the 2077 iteration will stray too far from the original idea, fear not as Mike Pondsmith is still very integral to the entire process of the game.

This means that one of the most complete and detailed sci-fi universes ever created will still be in its original form and according to the whims of its creator rather than be at the hands of some pesky developers looking to make a quick buck (not that CD Projekt Red are pesky in any way).

The entire idea of a universe where mega-corporations can do what they please seems very intriguing, and although we get to taste a tiny part of that in the Tekken franchise, it is not even remotely up to the scale that the Cyberpunk universe is set at.

Trailers

The first trailer of the game came out all the way back in 2013 as shown above. This was a teaser that showed almost nothing of what the game would be like.

That is still the case even today as there is very little information available which tells us what the gameplay would feel like and what the story would entail.

However, both of the trailers shown above and below have generated a hype that is almost stupid when compared to the amount of information that they have given.

This is because of 2 reasons. One of them is the fact that the developers made Witcher 3 that automatically means that any game that they release henceforth has to be taken seriously.

The other one is the beautifully made but intricate and incredibly detailed Cyberpunk universe.

Although unconfirmed, the city shown in the trailer is said to be the Night City from the original tabletop game, and my god does it look spectacular!

It is not just the quality of the graphics that has everyone intrigued, but also the general aesthetic of the area. The colors of the Night City seem to suggest a place that never falls asleep, yet it also seems to carry a tone of sadness and delusion.

It seems as if the place is simultaneously the happiest and the saddest place on earth.

Add to that the fact that the law enforcement seems to be powerless against all of the gangs that reside and all of the corporations that control the area and you have Cyberpunk.

This is a very unique take on a setting for a game and probably why everyone is making such a fuss about it.

The Delays

When the developers announced Cyberpunk 2077 is in full-fledged development and can be expected very, very soon, they also gave an explanation as to why the game has been kept in the dark for 5 years and what were they doing in that timeframe.

According to the people over at CDPR, they had to finish work on The Witcher 3 and both of its expansions before they could begin to work on Cyberpunk.

Once they were done with Blood and Wine, they turned their attention to Cyberpunk and the development is going on at a very quick pace now.

The game would still be released only ‘When it’s Ready’ and the gameplay will be a story-driven single player game with no microtransactions.

The developers were willing to admit that they themselves were in the dark about many of the things that they are going to do and have decided to just wait until they have put the game together to see how big it is.

The game will have free DLCs and expansions for people to have something to play once they are done with the original game and it will be 100% DRM Free for the PC. Definitely a recipe for an amazing product.
