If you’re worried about the possibility of Dishonored 2 graphics being downloaded for the purpose of running on consoles, don’t worry. Sébastien Mitton, Arkane’s art director on Dishonored 2, made the statement at Gamescom that he doesn’t believe that the game will have to be downgraded prior to its release in November.
The possibility of triple-A games being graphically downgraded before releasing, or being downgraded for console releases, is a constant ear of many gamers no matter what platform they’re on. Various games such as Crysis 2 and Watch Dogs both experienced slight graphical downgrades before their release.
Crysis 2 was downgraded after it made the jump to consoles after its first game, which had quickly become infamous for being so graphics-intensive that many computers could not run it. The announcement that it would be downgraded for consoles made P elitists upset, as the feuding between PC and console gamers reached a fever pitch.
Watch Dogs also experienced a graphical downgrade across its platforms compared to its E3 trailer, which got the game a large amount of criticism. However, it doesn’t seem like that will be a problem with Watch Dogs 2.
The Dishonored 2 graphics will be put through their paces when the game comes out as Dishonored 2’s plot takes us to Karnaca, the capital city of the southern island of Serkonos.
With its massive cityscape, spinning windmills, and beautiful scenery, the Dishonored 2 graphics will have to be very good in order to do the setting justice.
Dishonored 2’s new Void engine is also helping to make the game look as good as possible, compared to the previous which ran on Unreal Engine 3.
Dishonored 2 will be releasing on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC on November 11, so until then we’ll just have to wait and see if Arkane gives us any more information about the game, or any new shots of Karnaca’s landscape.
