Batman Arkham Knight PC Was Outsourced to Iron Galaxy, Inevitable Disaster?

It has been confirmed that Iron Galaxy handled the PC port for Batman Arkham Knight. It's a console studio consisting of only 12 people.

Today was finally the day that Batman Arkham Knight was released out into the world. While things appeared to go smoothly on the consoles, as we reported the PC release was somewhat of a disaster.

I myself found when I installed the game that a corrupted file led me to the game cache verification bug and led to a full reinstall of the game. Once this was done the worst thing I had to suffer was the stuttering graphics bug which I found tolerable and will hopefully be fixed soon.

Looking for an explanation, as to why the release appears to be such a mess many looked to the developers who ported the game to the PC and it appears that Rocksteady Studios outsourced the game to another company. Rocksteady’s statement on the state of the release is this:

“We’re aware that some users are reporting performance issues with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. This is something that Rocksteady takes very seriously. We are working closely with our external PC development partner to make sure these issues get resolved as quickly as possible.

“We’ll update this thread when we’ve got more info to share.”

While Rocksteady had not named the PC development partner at that time it now appears that it was in fact Iron Galaxy Studios which is only made up of twelve people.

Previously, they have concentrated on previous generation console and iOS games. Two notable games they worked on was the Playstation 3 version of Destiny and Vita version of Borderlands 2.

Whoever is to blame, the real question has to be why did the PC version make it to release in the first place when it was obviously not in a fit state. With restrictions to a 30fps framerate (which can be fixed by editing an ini file) and bad optimisation it feels like a release that should have been delayed until it met a suitable quality level.
