Borderlands 3 Moze Builds Guide – Recommended Skills, Augmentations, How to Play

Moze, the tank character in Borderlands 3, has a giant mech by her side to aid during fights and we have created some great builds for you to try out.

Moze the Gunner has unconventional skill trees, as compared to other Borderlands 3 characters. She has three different skill trees: Bottomless Mags, Demolition Woman, and Shield of Retribution. Her mech is an entity of its own; having its personal skills and health pools. This mechanic allows for, potentially, a ton of awesome builds for this character. In this Borderlands 2 Moze Builds Guide, we’ve detailed some of the best ways you can build Moze the Gunner in BL3.

  1. Zane the Operative
  2. FL4K the Beastmaster
  3. Amara the Siren
  4. Moze the Gunner

Borderlands 3 Moze Builds

In this build guide, we’ll explore all the different combinations in the skill trees which could work with Moze, for different play-styles in the game.

1. Fire Queen

In this build, the main focus is on every skill related to fire damage, splash damage and speed. Every skill in the Demolition Woman tree is unlocked. You will be loaded up with Singularity Grenades and a Shock Chain or Fire Railgun. Your incredibly high firepower will make you an absolute beast on the battlefield.

As you can see, this is most definitely a Demolition build that’s meant to maximize firepower and damage dealt, so it can be seen as a DPS build as well.

With all this fire on your side, you have to wonder how Moze isn’t burnt to a crisp by now. The answer is probably because this build also takes that into account and gives her some defensive capabilities i.e. shield regeneration and reducing the amount of damage Iron Bear’s shield bubble takes.

Seeing as we’re so heavily focused on the element of fire, there’s a no better choice than the elemental enhancer: Maliwan. It should be your go-to weapon if you decide to make a build that highlights Moze’s arson half.

2. No Bullet’s Grazing Me

What we have here, essentially, is a tank build. No, I don’t mean it buffs up Iron Bear (how much more buffing up could a giant mechanical bear need?) but rather it buffs up Moze so that she can regain health for every enemy she kills with a grenade, and constantly have her shields up. Due to several abilities in the Shield of Retribution Tree, Moze now has a shield with a lower recharge delay, a higher life expectancy, and she can even regain it as soon as it depletes.

As far as offense goes, you’ll have the Railgun which will be augmented with the Capacitive Armature augmentation. So best to get that ready and use your shields in concurrence with such a powerful weapon.

Shoot, what’s a bit more defense in all of this? Might as well get the Hyperion to help elevate this even further!

3. I Ain’t Done Yet

Guess what? You’re not gonna be running out of ammunition anytime soon. REJOICE! For you see, this particular build, which can aptly be described as being a Bottomless Mags build, is all about ammunition and making use of every single bullet in your cartridges! All the skills in the Bottomless Mags Tree is specifically chosen to allow for maximum yield. A Critical Hit replenishes ammo, exiting Iron Bear gets you infinite ammo, and you even regenerate ammo continuously for whatever weapon you have equipped.

But that’s not all, your single skill in Shield of Redistribution and remaining points allocated into the Demolition Woman Tree allows for you to buff Iron Bear and use him a bit more extensively in the battlefield as well, while simultaneously letting you use your Action Skills a bit more heavily.

Speaking of, you’ll have the Minigun equipped and augment it with Let Off Some Steam. You’ll have a ton of firepower at your disposal and you won’t need to worry about your ammo supply since it’s practically non-ending.

Because you have so much ammo, a COV may be the best route as you’ll never need to reload it, but it does overheat pretty quickly. Then again, you can use the Minigun or Iron Bear when that happens.

4. I Eat Lead and Spit Out Bullets

Ooh boy, let’s just take advantage of all of Moze’s endless ammo buffs because my goodness, I don’t think you’re getting any more ammo out of any other build. Outside of Stoke the Embers and Matched Set, every other ability in the Bottomless Mags Tree is part of this build. I don’t know, fellas, this Bottomless Mags build seems a bit too much, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I had this many bullets lying around.

Thankfully you get some relief with some abilities from Demolition Woman which buff up Iron Bear and let him take on much more damage, which helps Moze in turn as she’ll be able to exploit many of her abilities from the previous Skill Tree. The Vampyr ought to keep her alive long enough on top of that as well; she’s bound to get a few hits with all the shots she’ll be firing.

Imagine this: A flamethrower with burst fire capabilities and with as little fuel consumed as possible. Yep, you have that too, just equip Salamander with Fuel Economy and Molten Roar.

As far as weapons go, jeez, you already have so much power in your hands, which gun would benefit it the most? How about the Vladof for immense damage and no worries when it comes to ammunition since you have more than enough.

5. Don’t Talk To Me Or My Bear Ever Again

This build’s a collaborative effort between Moze and her precious mech. It’s meant to be a balance between buffing her unique stats while also upping Iron Bear’s abilities, to get the best of both worlds. It’s a trapeze act but one we’re confident we succeeded at when making this build. It’s a very fun build that focuses, principally, on the Shield of Retribution Skill Tree, making it a tank build, in other words.

With the abilities equipped in the Bottomless Mags Tree and some equipped in the Shield of Retribution Tree, Moze is now capable of increased fire damage, regenerating ammo, and having a shield that recharges. Consequently, Iron Bear now has stronger defense and a shield bubble that can take more hits; he also deals increased fire damage, more fuel, and will even hunt enemies when Moze isn’t piloting it!

Bear Fist and Wild Swing will demolish any enemy that dares stand in your (or your mech’s) way. Likewise, you could also equip Salamander to make use of that increased fire damage.

A Maliwan would be the choice pick as it’ll be even stronger with the buffs that give Moze increased fire damage.

6. Defensive Rebellion

Yeah, if you thought you had a tank build before, take a gander at what we got here. This build makes use of every single ability in the Shield of Retribution skill tree. Not just a few, ALL OF THEM. This Shield of Retribution build is meant to maximize your vitality and defensive prowess. Shield regeneration, increasing max health, gaining gun damage contingent to your health and shield damage. Yeah, it’s a build that’s meant to keep Moze safe and secure at all times.

A smidgen of the offensive is tossed in as well, A Cloud of Lead here, some Stoke The Embers there, and garnished with some Deadlines. I’m sweating just thinking about getting past her defenses, now I have to worry about her firing back?!

Oh, she’ll fire back alright, not just with some regular ol’ guns, oh no, she’ll pull out all the stops and take out a Railgun for when the going gets really tough – a railgun that electrocutes its enemies!

The Atlas will go nicely with this, as you won’t have to worry much about taking too much damage and you can get some killer shots in with this weapon.

7. A Tale Of Bullets and Grenades

Even though Moze has with her a mechanical bear that can shoot bullets and fire, she doesn’t like relying purely on that, she sometimes prefers to dispense some whoop-ass with her guns and, more so than anything else, her grenades. This demolition build makes her dreams come true and give her exactly that, with increased Gun Damage, more ammunition, a higher chance for critical hits, and a ton of grenades, she’s a fiery cadet you don’t wanna mess with.

On top of all this, you also have the Vanquisher Rocket Pad but with a twist – with the Hammerdown Protocol, instead of raining down multiple rockets on your enemies, you’ll instead fire a NUKE at them, dealing immense damage.

Bombs, guns, and a nuke, what else could a girl ever want?

A Tediore would serve you well since it has a decent fire rate (augmented now with the high gun damage) and will assist you separately when you reload. Picking a gun isn’t that important since you’ll have all the grenades you’ll need for any endeavor.

8. Shoot, I Dare Ya

This Shield of Retribution build ups your defenses considerably. Vladof Ingenuity, Thin Red Line, Force Feedback, Phalanx Doctrine, and Tenacious Defense all provide you with considerable defense buffs – your shield’s max power is increased, it regenerates more quickly, and with tenacious defense, you’ll get an opportunity to use it consistently, making you a person that’s very hard to hit.

On the offensive front, she, with the help of Drowning in Brass, Matched Set, Cloud of Lead, Stoke the Embers, and Scorching RPM’s, she’ll have immense firepower that will decimate any who stand in her way; but what her enemies should truly fear is the Salamander – a flamethrower that will deal critical damage to all her foes, and with Fuel Economy there to augment it, everyone better be aware of the fact that she ain’t running out of flames any time soon.

As far as weapons go, a Maliwan could work to further increase firepower, or a Hyperion for a bit more protection, if you feel you need it.

9. The Bear Necessities

Taking a little bit from every Tree, this build is about creating a balance between Iron Bear and Moze; having the pendulum swing back and forth between the two to reach an equilibrium that will yield the best possible results. To achieve that, we bring before you an insanely strong build that utilizes much of everything at Moze’s disposal.

First of all, in the Brawl skill tree, you have access to a great deal of ammo – only when you exit Iron Bear – while you also have increased fire rate and fire damage, and doubly the gun damage for Iron Bear, all of it topped off with Salamander.

As for the Demolition Woman Skill Tree, you have a chance for greater Splash Damage, Critical Hit, and for Iron Bear to take out enemies on its own; to further things along, you’ll have the Shield of Retribution abilities to further increase gun and fire damage, while also buffing up Iron Bear.

A Vladof will do nicely as you won’t have to worry about depleting your ammo anytime soon.

10. Best Defense Is The Best Offense

This build unites security with attack power. Though primarily a defense build, your shield’s capabilities will help you immensely when it comes to the offensive front. Don’t believe me? Well, check it out for yourself.

Thin Red Line, Vladof Ingenuity, Behind the Iron Curtain, Forced Feedback, and Tenacious Defense will all exponentially increase your max shield while also decreasing the amount of damage it takes and allowing for several ways for it to recharge. And as long as you have your shields up, you’ll have greater gun damage.

Consequently, you’ll also have a buffed out Iron Bear with a manned turret, giving you a chance to rail your enemies from atop a mechanical bear – living the dream. You’ll also have an augmented Railgun that will do shock damage to multiple enemies when fired!

As long as you have your shields up, you’ll do more damage, therefore it makes the most sense to have Hyperion as your primary weapon.

11. Hurt ‘em Good

If anyone here’s looking for a DPS build, this one’s for you. Utilizing almost all of the Bottomless Mags abilities, this build allows you to do as much damage as possible with your weaponry, with some assistance from Demolition Woman and Shield of Retribution to further the damage output; plus Iron Bear can assist you as well.

With Cloud of Lead, Stoke the Embers, and Scorching RPM’s, most of your hits will have increased fire damage and even a high chance for a critical hit. Supplement this with Scrappy and Click, Click, you’re likely to be able to do so much damage without getting hit much yourself. Top it off with Redistribution, Some for the Road, and Forge, and you’re unlikely to ever run out of ammo.

But wait, there’s more! You’ll also have your handy dandy Minigun! But not just any minigun, a minigun that fires exploding bullets. Allow me to reiterate… EXPLODING. BULLETS! Yeah, I think you’re good to go on the damaging side of things.

A Vladof or COV will work wonderfully with this builds.

The more bullets you have, the more enemies you can kill; simple as that. A DPS build, this one combines abilities from Shield of Retribution and Bottomless Mag Skill Trees, taking many of the defensive and offensive abilities from the former while getting more ammunition into the mix with the latter.

For additional firepower, you’ll have a Minigun with exploding bullets. An Atlas or Torgue will fit in perfectly.
