Greek Art Has A Huge Influence Over Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Combat

According to the game director, Scott Phillips, Assassin's Creed Odyssey Combat is heavily influenced by Greek Art. He explained in an interview.

What most of us already know is the fact that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is heavily influenced by Greek history. Perhaps, that is why according to the game director, Scott Phillips, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Combat too is heavily influenced by Greek Art.

At the recent preview event of this upcoming amazing game, the director had the courtesy of shedding light on how the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Combat is influenced by the great Greek Art.

For those who may already have seen the demo of the game, or in fact even the trailer, they would know that Kassandra and Alexios both are rooted in the life of a Spartan. However, it is not necessary for either of them, to stay on any side of the Peloponnesian War.

Now even though there is quite a lot of Spartan influence in the game, it is not necessary for the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Combat to be rooted in it.

Surprising as it may sound, the combat in Odyssey may have the brutality of Spartans but it is very densely rooted in the art of Ancient Greece.

Phillips added that there is specific art which depicts the life of Achilles, the star of Homer’s Iliad.

Trying to elaborate further on the Greek Art, he said that in terms of the overall visual style of the combat, the animation director of the game, Marc-André Clermont used his unique perception to look at different things and that is where he found inspiration in Achilles.

He found these sort of beautiful poses and styles in this ancient culture and felt it was the best fit for our characters. Phillips said

Having said that Marc-André Clermont has previously served as the animation director, for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as well.

Now what Philips revealed after is what really caught our attention. We all are aware of the fact that Greek art is heavily influenced by pottery and sculpture.

So what they have done is that they have utilized “how the Greeks would do pottery and sculpture, and how they would celebrate the beauty of the human form.”

Then the devs came upon some really striking poses and that is when they decided to use those amazing poses in combat.

They found these striking poses so [Alexios and Kassandra are] always trying to move from pose to pose in combat.

So for the fans of this upcoming game, let it be known that these characters Alexios and Kassandra always focus on hitting these amazing iconic moves.

Talking about Greek influence in this game, there has been one question which seems to bother a lot of fans that will players meet the Greek gods in Odyssey or not?

To which the director said that they have woven the Greek mythology, its rich history in such a way that players will find it quite convincing. Now sure that it answers the question but it does seem to give somewhat of a positive vibe.
