Geoff Keighley, the founder of the Game Awards award show, has posted a trailer for the event on his Twitter page. While it’s mostly just hyping up the ceremony, there is one last little tidbit at the end that might mean we get to see some Death Stranding gameplay.
The clip in question is just Hideo Kojima going “One more thing!” but the possibility of him once again having something Death Stranding related to show at the event is a possibility that’s too hype to miss. The 2016 Game Awards had Kojima unveil a new Death Stranding trailer that showed that Mads Mikkelsen was in the game, but since then we’ve heard essentially nothing about it.
Death Stranding, being Hideo Kojima’s first original property since he was fired from Konami, has generated a ton of buzz ever since it was first announced at E3 2016’s Playstation conference. Kojima’s triumphant return to the video game development stage has come along with a lot of reveals, but we still don’t really know anything about Death Stranding.
Each of the two trailers that have shown up have mainly had four things in common: wires, oil, a man, and a baby. Exactly what all that means remains to be seen, but if there is any Death Stranding gameplay at the Game Awards, hopefully we’ll get at least some information about whatever setting we’ll be going into.
There’s no real indication about when Death Stranding will be releasing other than some time before the Tokyo Olympics, which will be happening in 2020. This means sometime within the next two years, though considering Kojima’s perfectionist tendencies we probably can’t hope for a 2018 release.
Either way, hopefully if there is Death Stranding gameplay at the Game Awards, it will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen before from Kojima. The Game Awards are held December 7.
