It is rare to see mini games set within the world of a massive RPG find their way into the limelight. However, The Witcher 3 GWENT became one such game, the community pushed CD Projekt RED to work on a standalone title, which it did.
GWENT standalone was announced at E3 2016 and is a highly anticipated card game. CD Projekt RED created this mini-game for The Witcher 3 but never anticipated the large amount of players who’ll be interested in it. It had surely been a great surprise when fans wrote countless messages, requesting GWENT game.

Michał Dobrowolski (Game Designer, CD PROJEKT RED) stated:
We wanted to make a fun mini-game that players would enjoy in between saving the world in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That was the plan when we were creating GWENT. And then it turned out players were actually spending a whole lot of time playing GWENT, much more than we anticipated.
We started getting tons of messages from them asking us to make a standalone GWENT game that would let them play it friends. Some even went as far as to build custom playing tables and real-life GWENT decks. So we decided to make the game and were making it because of the huge community effort.
GWENT will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It will not only feature a multiplayer mode but devs are putting in a single player campaign as well. In fact, there are different single player campaigns based on each deck.
