Yooka-Laylee Switch Version Is Being Delayed Due To Game Engine Issues

Yooka-Laylee has launched for PC and consoles but, the Nintendo Switch version of the game is nowhere near to release and now developer Playtonic has revealed the reason behind the Switch version of Yooka-Laylee being delayed.

In the latest blog post from the studio, the developers explained that Unity game engine has been creating issues with the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee which is the reason why the Switch version is being delayed. According to the studio, the latest version of Unity Engine, 5.6, is the culprit behind the long wait.

Although [5.6] has now been released, it has unfortunately introduced other issues which we are working with Unity to resolve before we can submit to Nintendo and lock in our release timeline.

We understand the frustration that it’s taken so long to get the game in your hands but we hope you understand that we’re working as fast as we can and want the game to perform as well as it possibly can on Switch.

Once these remaining issues are resolved we hope to finally be able to commit to and share a launch date. Thanks as ever for your patience and please bear with us – we are getting there!

Speaking of Nintendo Switch, the console has been hard to get which made many wonder if Nintendo underestimated the demand for the console and it seems that is the case. According to Nintendo they over-delivered Switch but, the demand outpaced their supply.

We actually sold through almost 2.8 million units, so we dramatically over delivered. And yet, demand outpaces supply. So what do some of the consumers on Reddit say? ‘Gosh, Nintendo, if you would’ve made more you would’ve sold more.’ Well, we did make more! And certainly we’re on a pace to supply in the current fiscal year 10 million units.

Yooka-Laylee is a platformer video game developed by Playtonic for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch version of the game still has no release date.
