Microsoft is a bit shy while sharing sales data for Xbox One, however, when it comes to Xbox Live concurrent user base the company proudly presents its data.
According to Microsoft, Xbox Live’s monthly active user base has reached 46 million. It saw a boost of 26% in monthly active users year-over-year in FY16 Q3 and are expecting more growth in the following quarters.
It is safe to say that majority of this user base is still gaming on Xbox 360. The company recently stopped manufacturing Xbox 360 so Microsoft should hope to see a jump in Xbox One sales and its Xbox Live users.
In a recent report based on external independent sources, Microsoft has sold around 18 million Xbox One units while its competitor PS4 is closing in at 40 million and should be there by the end of the year.
Since we don’t have official sales data we find it hard to believe that it has only sold 18 million units. We think a much safer guess is around 21 to 22 million units but we can’t say anything for sure at the moment.
On a related note, Microsoft is rumored to be planning a new slimmer model of the Xbox One console. And recently, Anatel, which is the Brazilian equivalent of the FCC leaked some images that showed slimmer components for the Xbox One.
Xbox One slim would possibly be announced at E3 2016.
We are also expecting rival Sony to reveal its PS4K which apparently features more powerful GPU, CPU and can upscale games to 4K along with support for 4K media.
