Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones Delayed Until 2020

This week was the week of delays for some highly anticipated titles like Shenmue 3 and Metro Exodus. Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones now joins the party and this delay is not a short one. According to Ubisoft, Skull and Bones won’t get released until 2020. Too bad.

During Ubisoft’s financial conference call regarding the fiscal year 2017-18, Skull and Bones won’t make its release this current fiscal year. According to Ubisoft’s Chief Financial Officer Alain Martinez, the decision gives the developer team more time to work on the title and polish things. We kind of saw this coming since the company has been too secretive about the project.

With such a big delay, bringing the game’s launch pushed back to March 2020, we are looking at a huge release here. However, given the huge changes in preference and new viral video games releasing every day, the tide might be a lot different then than what is now.

Furthermore, with the announcement of the Skull and Bones delay, we should expect the game to be showcased at E3 2018. We might be able to catch a glimpse of a teaser or a cinematic trailer – the game does feature some stunning graphics –  or some information about its release window or development stage.

As announced, is an online-only title that is releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Ubisoft has clearly re-skinned Black Flag for this one which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, Ubisoft has explained why the game is a standalone project than a spin-off release for the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Skull and Bones has a shared open world where the players will try to take over the trade routes.

Until Skull and Bones gets released in (possibly) March 2020. Until then, here’s everything we know about the game so far. For more future information about Ubisoft’s upcoming title stay tuned to SegmentNext.
