Nintendo Switch is, without doubt, one of the most successful consoles the company has sold these past years. With close to 8 million units sold worldwide and the possibility for that number to get doubled by the start of the next fiscal year, Switch seems to be rocking the video game industry. A recent survey conducted by Nintendo, included in their financial briefing for the 6 months of this fiscal year, gave some information on who is purchasing Nintendo Switch.
As the survey reveals, 43% of the consoles buyers are 25-43 years old. This gives us a feeling that fans have never outgrown Nintendo consoles and are still keeping in touch with the company’s releases. This could also get even more backup by the fact the Nintendo Switch first shipped with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was long awaited for old-school fans. Note that these are the results of a survey by Nintendo that was given to consumers in the US market in October who had linked a Nintendo Account to their Nintendo Switch system and can be found in Nintendo’s Six Months Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2018.
There is also something to be said about the fact that Nintendo Switch’s sales are steadily rising, instead of Wii U’s sales over its first year. Nintendo explains:
While Wii and Wii U were released during the holiday season, it’s important to note that the Nintendo Switch launch was timed completely differently, in March. It now looks like holiday season sales for Nintendo Switch could catch up to the Wii figures.
Nintendo also gave some information about their ability to produce and ship more units of this console, stating the following:
We are expanding our production structure to meet domestic and overseas demand, which has exceeded our initial projections. We have worked hard to ensure that we can provide as many consoles as possible. There was an announcement yesterday that we will revise our hardware sales projections for this fiscal year to 14 million units.
Nintendo expects its hybrid console, Nintendo Switch, to be as successful as Wii which sold 100 million units in its lifetime and now a report has emerged which suggests that Nintendo Switch will sell 130 million units by 2022.
