Sunset Overdrive was the first-ever open world game by Insomniac Games. While the game is very different from the upcoming Spiderman PS4 but, the studio has noted that the Xbox One exclusive has helped with the upcoming Spiderman PS4.
In a recent interview, creative director Bryan Intihar talked about the game, the inspiration behind it and how the Xbox One exclusive, Sunset Overdrive, helped Insomniac Games develop the upcoming Spiderman PS4 and specifically the New York City.
He added that one of the reviews for Sunset Overdrive noted that it would be interesting to Insomniac Games’ take on the Spiderman franchise which he showed to Sony Interactive Entertainment when they were talking about Spiderman PS4.
Let’s say that we took it to the letter, in fact when we were still discussing with Sony I showed them that article saying ” you see, we have to do it …”[laughs] In any case, totally yes, he gave us a great hand.
Furthermore, he noted that Sunset Overdrive was the first game developed by Insomniac that was open-world and this helped the team a lot while developing an open-world New York City for Spiderman PS4.
Sunset had an extremely complex geometry, and certainly that is a further element that we took from there, but also the movement system, the particular fluidity in the rhythm … they are all things we took and channeled into an experience sewed around Spider-Man,so the answer to your question is a 100% yes.
Sinister Six has been confirmed for the upcoming Spiderman game and were also showcased at E3 2018 Sony presentation. However, Insomniac Games didn’t just pick characters from the comics and put them in the Spiderman PS4.
According to the developers, each character has been chosen very carefully for the upcoming Spiderman game.
We chose the characters we wanted to work with very carefully, and we feel like each of them has an important role in the story and we’ve brought them in for specific reasons to help drive the narrative.
Spiderman PS4 is an open-world action adventure game in development at Insomniac Games and is scheduled to launch on September 7, 2018, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
