There Will Be A Lot of Splatoon 2 Post-Launch Content After Game’s Launch

According to the game's director, there will be a lot of Splatoon 2 post-launch content coming after the game is released later this year.

Nintendo has said that there will be a great deal of Splatoon 2 post-launch content once the game releases on the Nintendo Switch. Splatoon 2 will be the sequel to the team-based “shooter” game Splatoon, which was originally released on the Nintendo Wii U back in May of 2015 and exploded in popularity.

Splatoon 2 was announced officially at the Nintendo Switch’s press event back at the end of January. The series was already popular on the Wii U due to its novel concept, wide variety of weapons and outfits, and cute characters, becoming one of the highest-selling Wii U games. Now, Nintendo seems to want to capitalize on its success not just with a sequel, but with more content for that sequel.

Hisashi Nogami, who is directing the development of Splatoon 2, has said that the Splatoon 2 post-launch content will include a variety of new maps, new weapons, and more being regularly added to the game as time goes on. While Splatoon 2 isn’t an upgrade over the first Splatoon, this is a similar model to the first game, which was continually adding new weapons and maps for people to play with throughout its lifetime.

With Splatoon being primarily multiplayer-focused, there won’t be much single player stuff in the Splatoon 2 post-launch content, but hopefully everything that’s coming right now is going to be enough for the multiplayer scene to stay as strong as the original Splatoon. However, Splatoon 2 will have a story mode, though whether it’s better than the original’s (where it was just a series of obstacle courses divided into sections that each ended with a boss fight) remains to be seen until the game actually comes out.

Splatoon 2 will be releasing sometime in the second or third quarter of 2017, after the Nintendo Switch releases on March 3 of this year. Splatoon 2 won’t be a launch title, but we can likely expect it to move at least some systems when it finally comes out.
