Shazam! Movie Gets Official Synopsis, Being Executive Produced by Dwayne Johnson

The official synopsis for the much-teased Shazam! movie was released earlier today, a week after the lingering project in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) finally went into production.

The synopsis confirms that Billy Batson, the alter ego of the superhero, will be 14 years old instead of the much younger portrayal in the comic books. Warner Bros. has clearly implied that the storyline will revolve around the problems and challenges faced in a teen-centric setting than a buffed character punching through walls at every corner. The heavily rumored Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong) has also been confirmed to be standing in as the main antagonist.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard.

Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

In addition, Warner Bros. revealed that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is an executive producer for the project. The actor is confirmed to play Black Adam, the arch nemesis of Shazam, in a future independent movie. There were rumors that the anti-hero would appear in the Shazam! movie. It now seems probable that a cameo is not out of the question.

The Shazam! movie is set to be released in theaters on April 5, 2019. We are waiting patiently to see the superhero in his costume for the first time.
