Resident Evil 7 launched back in January 2017 and was cracked within a week after its launch. However, 2 years after the game’s launch Capcom has decided to remove Denuvo DRM from Resident Evil 7.
Capcom quietly removed the Denuvo DRM from Resident Evil 7. Also, this isn’t the first time Denuvo has been removed from a game. Recently, Bethesda removed the same DRM from Dishonored 2 and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.
Capcom didn’t reveal why it chose to remove DRM. But, I speculate it might be due to the DRM license expiring and Capcom decided to not renew it.
Removal of Denuvo from Resident Evil 7 might result in a bump in PC sales. Many PC gamers have boycotted video games that use Denuvo DRM and its removal might encourage them to buy Resident Evil 7.
Capcom’s decision comes a few days following Resident Evil 2 launch which also uses the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. However, Resident Evil 2 remake has managed to stay uncracked. It remains to be seen how long will it take for hackers to crack the game.
Furthermore, a report has emerged suggesting that Netflix is working on a live-action Resident Evil series. Reportedly, the live-action series will be handled by the same studio that worked on Resident Evil movies.
Also, the series will closely follow the events that lead to the virus outbreak in Racoon City. Reportedly, the live-action series will focus on the antagonist Umbrella Corporation.
A Resdient Evil movie reboot is also in the works. RE movies don’t particularly have a good reputation and Capcom intends to change all that with the reboot.
Constantin Films is working on the Resident Evil movie reboot. Greg Russo and James Wan have already submitted the script for the RE reboot.
Capcom also intends to remake all Resident Evil games with fixed camera perspective. This is according to RE2 Remake producer Tsuyoshi Kanda.
I think it would be interesting to provide over-the-shoulder versions of our other fixed-camera titles. But for the time being my priority is making Resident Evil 2 a success.
